Casa Mel is a lovely, clean, tidy cottage in the beautiful city of Silves. The owner was very friendly and helpful and there was ample parking at the square. Tea, coffee, milk, butter and other essentials were provided which added a very nice, welcoming touch and were gratefully recieved on our arrival. There are plenty of restaurants neaby (we used the Casa Velha most days - highly recommend them) and plenty to do in the area. The cottage was a lovely place to return to at the end of the day, especially the wetter days we had while we were there! Silves itself is an ideal location for travelling around the rest of the Algarve. It was an ideal getaway for us as a couple and we will, certainly go back there when we return to the Algarve!

A really well prepared and well appointed cottage in a superb location close to the historic centre of Silves. The cottage lies on the road leading to the ancient cathedral and imposing castle. The owners live close to the cottage and were very welcoming and friendly. There was even a comprehensive pack of groceries to make us feel at home. Although the cottage is central there are no problems with parking or with noise. Luckily the cathedral bells are silenced overnight so a good night's sleep is assured.
Although the kitchen is fully equipped there is no need to eat in every night because there are several restaurants and cafes nearby and some have good live music on certain nights. We also found that Silves is a good base for further exploration. There are some wonderful clifftop walks along the stunning coastline only 20 minutes away by car, some good hiking trails inland and Faro is not far away. The proprietor at the nearby Cafe da Se (Mike) has a wealth of local knowledge and was a good source of ideas for trips.
All in all this cottage ticks all the boxes.
