The view is absolutely amazing.
Hotel is very modern (refurbished 2 years ago), clean, staff friendly and helpful.
Breakfast buffet is excellent - wide choice of bread and sweet as sour things.
Rooms are clean, modern, spacious.

One tip: better to rent a car as it is not easy to access all the beautiful beaches around otherwise + the transit to Faro airport. We didn't so we had to walk to the beaches (at least we walked av. 10km a day + had to pay 108euros transfer single to the airport).

Went for Sagres for a 5 days vacations and really felt like vacations at the end.

The hotel design is really interesting, a minimalist style that makes you fell confortable.
The breakfast is good (not outstanding), what you can expect from a 4 stars hotel, the food is good!
The room view was great, a big balcony with a sea and harbor view.
The location is excellent, nearby almost everything on Sagres, no need to use the car if you are here for a beach vacations.

Went for the vacations with a 2yo kid, and he felt happy on it, loved the inside pool.

Will recommend to my friends, definitely!

Room Tip: Choose a room with sea view, they are quieter and with a lovely view.

The Baleeira was a fantastic home base for our trip to Sagres. The building is beautifully situated on a bluff overlooking the harbor, the architecture and design is simple and elegant and very much in line with the newer boutique hotels I've stayed at in Germany and Scandinavia. the restaurant is good, the bar pleasantly lively, and the clientele handsome young couples and young families.

We didn't use many of the facilities, including the pool or spa, although our room overlooked the former and it looked very nice.

We had no complaints at all, but it should be noted that, while the hotel is a short walk from a beach, the beach is more or less in the harbor and not particularly nice considering that you're a short drive from some of Europe's most beautiful beaches. Location-wise, you could also quibble that the hotel is on the far eastern edge of town, which extends the walks to the square and the walkable beaches. Finally, the rooms are a little on the "Ikea showroom" end of the design spectrum -- simple and sparsely decorated (although the bathrooms were nicely appointed).

Regarding the location, Sagres is really best done with a car, anyway, since there are so many great beaches within a 30 minute drive, so take that into account.

We stayed here for a short surf & sun holiday and overall enjoyed our trip.
It looked like we were one of the few people that didn't have/hire a car to get around.

From Faro its about 110 euro for a private transfer...instead we opted for the public transport approach:
Flying into Faro, the train station is about 10 min away (10 euro). Then an hour and half on the train to Lagos (14 euro). Then 30 min by a car transfer service you can organise with the hotel (35 euros). So in total for two people 59 euros!

We arrived about 2 hours before our check in time, hoping that our room might be ready...there seemed to be a somewhat relaxed approach as the room took another 2.5 hrs to be ready. To which there was no or little apology.

From the hotel there are about 4 beaches within 15 min of the hotel, easy to get to and you can borrow their bicycles free for 2 hours. If you're surfing, it's much easier to hire a surf board on the beach then in town and have to carry it around!

Unfortunately I think what let this hotel down is the staff, after a mix up with the bicycles we were rudely spoken to by staff at the front desk. Once they realised and admitted their fault in the situation their tone changed slightly but still little apology and no compensation.

Overall its a nice place to stay but I won't be staying here again. And I think they really need to work on their customer service!

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room with a view!

I haven't been to Sagres in more than 10 years so it was a pleasure to see the new memmo hotel with a sleek, modern design so different and uplifted from the old building I remembered from the past.

Checking in was a breeze, the front desk was extremely helpful and cordial. Our hotel room was on the same wing of the front desk on the lower level. The room and bathroom were nice and modern and if we stepped outside to the small terrace from our room we could see the ocean and the bay.

We had breakfast everyday in the restaurant which was surprisingly good. Not only was the food great the view was amazing, overseeing the garden, bay and the ocean. Even though it was always crowded we always got a table outside, but I would recommend going before 9am when everybody goes down for breakfast at the same time.

There is wifi in the reception area and a small business center which turned out to be extremely helpful because even if we were on vacation we had to do a video-conference with Nyc and london at the same time and had no problems with the wifi connection.

There is a lovely outside pool that we never got a chance to try 'cause we always left for the whole day to explore the beaches to the north of Sagres. The spa however is wonderful and I would totally recommend it.

Regarding the rooms, I would recommend to get a room on the east wing of the hotel. The view seems better. I wouldn't recommend you to get a room on the west wing on the same floor as the reception (there are lots of noise from people walking up and down the stairs and elevator) or on the lower level where we stayed. The lower level is where the interior pool is and there is always this clorox and humid smell from the pool on the hallway.

We did have lunch once in the hotel and it was pretty good. Didn't have dinner, but my sister stayed there in the winter before and had recommend me to do so.

Overall it was an extremely pleasant experience and I think we'll get back next year and book a little bit in advance to get those rooms on the east side.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with ocean view (otherwise you get the parking lot view). I would also recommend gett...

My wife, teenage son & I just stayed for 10 days at Memmo. We picked it because of the good reviews and the surf school and weren't disappointed.

The very good points:

The staff are all very friendly.
The views from the (sea view) rooms are stunning - looking out across the harbour and beach.
The room was really good. We had 414, which is a suite with the biggest balconies and best views in the hotel. As well as the standard balcony this room has access to an extended roof area with views over the sea and sun beds provided.
The suites are well equipped, plenty of space for three and being a suite came with a fully equipped kitchen and (more importantly) a full size fridge.

The could do better points:

Breakfast is a reasonable buffet, but apart from some variation in the cake provided it was amazingly similar every day and not very extensive.
The pool area is very small and the pool bar is only manned intermittently (you can phone orders in using the phone provided on the counter)
The staff can sometimes be more informative.
The wifi coverage is poor. It is reasonable around reception and the front half of the hotel at ground level, but isn't available in rooms and can get unreliable in the bar area.
Suites easily sleep three, but only have wine glasses for two, two chairs on the balcony and with the roof space available from 414 a third sun-bed would have been a good idea.
Balcony floors don't seem to be cleaned very often. Sagres can have strong winds that spread the dust about and then good dews that can stick it down to the floor. I don't think our balcony was cleaned while we were there which meant it looked quite grubby at the end.

Some general comments:

It is worth having your own transport. Although Sagres is a good little town, there is much more to see and better beaches if you can get out and about. (The fort is well worth a visit, we were very pleasantly surprised.)

The system for pool towels is different to any other I have encountered around the world - you get the towels (15 Euro deposit on each charged to the room) and return them at checkout. It does help if the staff actually mention this when you get the towels, which they didn't for us.

The restaurant is OK for dinner, but there is such a great selection in the town we only ate there on the first night (because we were all so tired).

There is a small gym in the hotel. We used it three times and on only one visit were there any towlels available. The only safe option is to take one from your room. They do at least have water available.

The hotel is quite minimalist, with predominently white everywhere. It is big for a "designer hotel" but seems to get away with it quite well. Prices are what you would expect for a 4* hotel. The exception is the menu of the day which is a fixed €22, with only one choice for main course but whatever you want from the menu for starter and desert.

Room Tip: Suites give plenty of space. 414 is the one to go for if you want to maximise outdoor space.

My wife and I have just returned from 10 days at Memmo. We found this place through Mr & Mrs Smith and we were not disappointed. We did a ton of research on tripadvisor and read the good and bad things about Memmo so please let me manage most of these points in one review. Firstly the transfer from Faro is €108 one way if travelling by taxi. The hotel is a design hotel concept, very white with white marble floors etc and quite minimalist in style. The ambiance is very relaxed and unpretentious, it doesn’t matter whether you are a couple or a family this place caters for everyone. The room was a perfectly reasonable size, we do live in London so maybe we are used to smaller living spaces, but seriously the room (superior sea view) is of an adequate size, is decorated in a minimalist style, is very clean, includes a mini bar, flat screen TV and great sea views. Maybe I am getting old at 35, but it would have been nice to have a coffee machine in the room or is that more 5 star level? In truth though it is exactly what you would expect from a 4 star. The bed by the way is very comfortable, but if it is a bit soft for your taste you can ask for a board to be put under the mattress that will make the bed firmer. The room was cleaned efficiently, sometimes on changeover days we had to wait a little longer, but most days it was cleaned by the time we got back from breakfast. Breakfast was perfectly decent - my only small gripe is that the scrambled eggs are bland and it would be great if they introduced a bit more choice with the egg station. The pool area is chilled out, minimalistic in style and though the pool was cold it was not so cold you could not go in it. We nearly always managed to get sun loungers and on the odd occasion it was full we could always get a couple of Fatboy bean bags. The beach towel policy was fine for us – very simply you use them for 3 days and then exchange them for clean ones – this simply required a little bit of thought but must save the hotel washing thousands of towels a year and substantially reduce their impact on the environment. The quality of food in the hotel was of a good standard, it was quite expensive, but not outrageous e.g. a cheeseburger with chips was circa £9 to 10, a toasted sandwich about £4, a pint of beer £4.00 a cocktail £5 to 6. For dinner in the evening there is an a la carte menu which can be quite expensive e.g. a 3 course meal with a mid-range bottle of wine for 2 would set you back anywhere between £60 to £100, but the quality of food was of a high standard. There was also a great set menu option which included 3 courses and a glass of wine for €22 each which we took advantage of on several evenings and it was usually the same food off the a la carte menu. We also ate out a few evening’s at Villa Vella which was a lovely restaurant but quite expensive. The weather was amazing, however, it is windy so be warned, but if you are into any kind of wind powered water sports this place must be your Mecca! The service from everyone in the hotel was adequate and very relaxed, you just have to remember you are not in London and the pace of life is a little slower!! We would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a reasonably affordable, quality hotel, that is relaxed, unpretentious, has good food and facilities (e.g. well-equipped gym, spa etc) that is tucked away from the more densely populated resorts of the Algarve.
