Located at the far southwestern edge of Portugal's Algarve coast, Fortaleza de Sagres is a beautiful fort with historic links to how navigation became what and how important it is today.

It covers a large area, offers fantastic views over the Atlantic ocean. Work is still ongoing on further developing areas.

Lovely walks together with beautiful views make this a great place to visit.

The Fortaleza Sagres is located at the southern tip of the Sagres Peninsular and this uniquely designed fort protected the town from raiders from North African. It was from here that Henry the Navigator devised his 15th-century expeditions to the uncharted seas around the western side of Africa, which heralded in the golden era of Portugal exploration.

The views from there are stunning and worth the drive out there especially if you are in the area. Try to get there early if you are going there for the sunset as it gets really busy.

Nothing special here, but the view is really beautiful. If you have been to a fortress before, you know how this one will be.

Entrance fee 09/2019: 3€ per adult
