We got a last minute long weekend for a good price. Flights at excellent times from a local airport, and transfers included for a half board break. Transfers were with a local company and the trip took only 45minutes, considerably shorter that the tour companies 2 hours plus.
The hotel is located in a residential area and like many parts of Portugal there were signs that heroin users were using in the area. THe hotel itself is pleasant and very clean. Alex who people have mentioned before is excellent, very helpful and friendly.
The rooms are adequate for a long weekend but for longer than that might become a little claustrophobic. TV has BBC world and you need to take a kettle etc. if you want a drink in your room.
The food is again fine for a few days but is too repetitive. At breakfast it is the same fare every day. Just changing eggs to boiled or fried would help. But if you are a tea and toast person it is fine. Evening meal is a good choice of salad, followed by 2 meat or fish dishes. It could be better. The restaurant is located two floors below reception, basically underground, and is accessed through the indoor pool area. (from some rooms.)
Didn't see anybody in the indoor pool nor any evidence it was used, it is very basic.
The outdoor pool is accessed across a car park and is absolutely fine. There were plenty of loungers and often we were alone in there. The snack bar next door sells cheap drinks and sandwiches.
The hotel provides free transport to Praia de Rocha which is worth taking.
We walked to the train station (20 minutes) and caught a train to Lagos. Cost 2.70 euro return. Takes 17minutes. Lagos is lovely well worth a visit.
All in all a good place to visit for a short break.

I have just returned from the most relaxing, well organised two week holiday at the Mirachoro Sol hotel in Portimao. I shall start with the update. The indoor pool is now heated. The outdoor pool is secluded , enclosed , and accessed by a key which is given upon arrival. Loads of loungers and tables and chairs, toilets and shower. The snack bar is open in summer season only.Meal times are 8am till 10am. Evening meal 7pm till 9pm.Drinks can be bought at hotel bar at other times Lovely lounge area with Sat.TV.I used the courtesy bus which runs four times throughout the day to the town and Prair Roche from 10.10am. Last one leaves at 5.35 Food was fabuluous thanks to Andrea who provides a very high standard and variety of food. The rooms are kept spotless by Edna and another lady . I had room 102 which has a sliding bathroom door which was great for a wheelchair. Shower over bath with hand rail and raised toilet seat.. Ramps all over but small lift . Hotel has wheelchair which fits okay. Reception staff Alex,Ruth and Joanne will ensure your holiday needs are met . For your midday snack visit Pastelaria Pomba (just to the left of the outdoor pool.) Eric does lovely toasties, sandwiches and salads from 1euro50. and white coffee for 1 euro. Friendly people . I used resort hopper for my transfer. Excellent service. Travel Republic put together my holiday and my thanks to them also.

My husband and I stayed at the Mirachoro Sol Sept 14-21st.The hotel is very nice, spotlessley clean with helpful staff.
Breakfast is ok but the evening meals were hit and miss!Times are 6.30-800. We found these times not good.Evening meal finished to early. If you arrived after 7.30, you were lucky to get any food!I have never stayed in a hotel where you had to clear your tables!!They constantly ran out of cups and dishes and we had to wait for them to be washed before we could eat!
The curtsey bus is great to the beach, but if they didn`t have that you would need a car because the hotel is in the middle of nowhere..
We caught the local bus to Alvor and the train to Lagos.Cheap and easy. The guy on reception was really helpful with directions to anywhere we wanted to go.
You can walk to the marina which is lovley, but in the evening it`s not a nice walk, very dark and lonely! A 20 mins walk. The walk to Praia De Rocha takes over an hour along a busy rd.
There are no local shops to speak of except a shopping centre 5 mins away, but not the nice shops with nick nacks you expect at a resort.
This hotel is in a residential area so really it`s not a beach resort.
Good value for what we paid but I would advise anyone to stay bed and breakfast only.Hire a car from the airport because the journey takes over 2 hrs on a coach, then you have your own transport to get a nice evening meal at a reasonable time and something good to eat too!
All in all we had a lovely holiday, weather was fab which makes all the difference.I would not stay there again.

My wife and I have just returned from a weeks stay at the mirachoro sol and after reading all the negative reports were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was spotlessly clean and the rooms where cleaned daily,The food was more than adequate for a budget hotel. breakfast consisted of a varied range of cereals, a great selection of fresh bread and rolls plus bacon sausages scrambled egg and beans along with a selection of cold meats and cheese. On the downside though it is not allways piping hot but there is a microwave and a toaster available. There was something for everyone for the evening meal. Soup and bread rolls to start followed by a selection of fish and meat dishes with chips and salad and there was allways a good selection of fruit and ice cream to follow.
We never used the outdoor pool as it was in the shade by the afternoon but we did swim in the indoor pool which is in the basement next to the dining room. I advise anyone going here to hire a car and see the Algarve as Portimao town isnt a particularly nice town however the beach at Praia da Rocha is great but i can strongly recommend visiting Alvor which has a fantastic beach,a saltwater lagoon where you may be lucky enough to see a flock of flamingoes and it is an old fishing village which hasnt lost its old world charm even though it caters for the tourist well with plenty of fantastic restaraunts where they BBQ fresh fish to order. also there are no problems with parking here either.
Now to the not so good points of the hotel, there is no kettle or fridge in your room so do as we did and take a kettle, coffee, tea and powdered milk. The local dogs barking kept us awake on the first night but we slept with the balcony door closed the following nights and that was OK. The beds are not at all comfortable but remember you are only paying for a budget hotel
I dont recommend this hotel if you are the sort of holidaymaker who likes a lively hotel with plenty of nightlife on your doorstep but if you just want a cheap place to stay while you explore the fantastic beaches and scenery of the Algarve then this is a great place to stay, after all a holiday is what you make it and my wife and I had a memorable week here

Booked a 7 night stay for me & my girlfriend. The hotel was great, more than I was expecting from a 2 star property.
The hotel is located on the outskirts of Portimao it took us 10-15 to walk to town. The beach is a lot further away but we had no problem getting the hotel bus in the morning & spending the day there & getting the free bus back. The staff were really friendly & helpful & the food was not that bad, drinks at the hotel were cheaper than in town! To get to the pool you have to walk across a car park adjacent to the hotel. (no big deal) The pool is not huge but it is well maintained & has a small bar (many 3/4 star hotels in the area did not even have a pool so this is a real bonus)
the only problem we had was the bed were a bit hard but that was it. The hotel it’s really good value for money & would recommend it to anyone who wants a cheap get away in the sun!:)

MY husband and myself spent 12 days at this hotel from the 29th july to the 10th of august. The hotel was clean the room was plenty big enough and was cleaned every day and we had clean towels daily. The food was terrible!! we ate out most of the time which cost a fortune as we had to have taxis out and back again !!

There was a free bus to portimao and praia de rocha but this was mostly full and the non british guests were very rude and would push in front of you regardless if you were in the front of the que or not!!!!!

We were disapointed with the pool as you had to walk over wast land plastered in dog mess to get to it and it was tiny!!!! we only spent a few hours there the whle time we stayed.

The dogs barked all night!!! keeping us awake!!!!! The hotel is very boring at night so you have to go out which again costs in taxi fares!!There is no entertainment at all!!

No kettle in the room means you have to buy t or coffee at the hotel but there is not always someone at the bar especially if you like a cuppa in the morning as breakfast is 8.30 and the tea and coffee are awfull. no fridge in the room, also you were not allowed to take food or drink into the hotel.

Luckily our 2 sons were not with us as they would of been bored stiff !!!!

This hotel is ideal for holiday makers that like to stay in their room all day or pay a fortune on travel fares!!!!! One good point was that the staff were very polite and helpfull!!!!

Well what can I say, after reading the reviews we were a little worried, but for a two star hotel it was brilliant. Family room was brilliant apart from the celing fans which were very noisy and unstable. Alex on the front desk was very nice, the barmaid (Manuel) could not understand anything u asked for apart from large beer (or if you point.) The dining hall was very cramped, and the food was well... how do I say below average. But saying that, we made some very good friends and would definatley go back.
