Great lunch here - very authentic restaurant on a steep cobbled street. We had monkfish and prawn skewers with homemade fries and salad - fish was very good. There was a tv on where we were sitting which I didnt like at all, a local kept turning up the volume which was annoying but service was very good and friendly - pity there is no outdoor eating area.

Reflects very well the rustic nature of the town where you are almost certainly dining with Portuguese people - always a bonus. Varied menu, very good wine lists, service faultless.

Restaurant A Charrette is one the the best in town. Very cosy interior where you can't loose the time due to a centenar of wall-watches. A balanced card with typical dishes frlom the region and fine standard plates of meat and fish. The lamb stew was excellent. As was the "cherne", a lovely fish. Almost a miracle that the fish in the interior town of Monchique is as fresh as in fisherports as Lagos, Tavira or Olhao. Friendly and polite service. The only objection: the have to eat always inside as there is no terrace or patio. But it is the quality of food that counts!

Visited with a group of 30 walkers. Excellent service and food in an authentic Portuguese restaurant. Choice of several local dishes including ribs in a vegetable stew. Service was extremely good with a continual supply of food and drinks.

Arrived at A Charrette about half past two on Christmas Eve. Only a few locals were there drinking espressos at the bar. We were welcomed by a very efficient staff member who said lunch was available and we chose a table- no other diners. Chose an excellent wine , the cheapest of three suggested by our waiter and at only 10 euros, it was great value. My husband chose the monkfish and rice dish, a very tasty type of soup/stew and I opted for veal skewer, served with fries. A very pleasing experience and perfect food, even though we realized we must have been the last customers before closing for Christmas. Atmospheric restaurant. Only thing missing was some background music- a bit quiet with us as only customers.
