A bit far off the beaten track, "Monte da Eira" sure deserves a visit. Very good, professional and friendly service, very nice terrace and quite unusual, but deliciously well done, food choices in the Algarve.
It will always be a good food experience, and not that expensive, at about 21 € per head (no wine).

Monte da Eira is one of our favourite restaurants. In a delightful setting just north of Loulé its well worht the journey to get into the Algrave countryside. The menu is inventive and typically (algarve) Portuuguese. Try the casseroled pork or wild boar, or for something different the delicious peas with eggs. And for desert the carob mousse is said to the best south of Llsbon. At aruond €25 a head, it's a wonderful romantic dinner (or lunch).

In spite of being not much more than 10 mins by car from Loule, this restaurant has the feel of a typical Algarve country farmhouse. It has been beautifully restored and decorated, the garden tables in summer are a delight and the open fire in winter makes it a cosy cold weather dining option. The menu is very much rustic Portuguese, a hard thing to find in these days of fancy ' international ' style menus. They serve casserole of wild boar, rabbit and delicious dishes using pork from the local black pig. The portuguese style pudding menu comes with suggestions for the perfect port or liqueur to accompany your choice. The charming owner Pedro, speaks several languages and has one of the best wine cellars around this part of the Algarve. A real gem of a restaurant.
