Review of Casa do Prego

Casa do Prego
Ranked #15 of 489 Restaurants in Lagos
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: $17 - $39
Description: Ricardo Gosling is a Portuguese born with English descent who crossed paths with Boris Kondratiev, in one of the leading food chains in London, where they worked together for many years. Both food lovers and business men, with the dream of settling themselves in the Algarve, the partners have joined forces and made this Casa do Prego a must go within locals and tourists. One being totally turned to the public-relations and team leading, and the other one playing a fundamental role on creation and conception, as well as on new sources of investment and expansion of the project, Ricardo and Boris are the parts of the puzzle that fit perfectly together. In 2015 Ricardo opened a small restaurant based on Portuguese contemporary food, looking to bring tradition and Mediterranean flavors to these modern days. 2017 was the year when Boris left London with his wife and his two little girls, and headed to Lagos, surprising Ricardo with the very strong intention of settling in Lagos.

We came once on a Tuesday early without reservation and your staff was kind enough to accommodate us. We got served the best meal we had have so far in Portugal (steak & tuna). So on the way out we made reservations for the weekend. Same excellent experience - friendly&fun staff, nice atmosphere, amazing food (taste & presentation). At the end of the trip, that included Lisabon, Casa do Prego was the best dining experience we had in Portugal.

Okay Lagos is not Texas. That said it expected better steak. My husband ordered grilled rump steak despite my warning that rump is tough and needs to be stewed. Well it was tough but has a great sauce.

I had sirloin grilled with green peppercorn sauce. Again the steak was thin and had some grizzle. The sauce was excellent.

The black pork was the best dish. Cooked perfectly with a great sauce

The desserts were excellent. Chocolate mousse made very well.

This restaurant has a roof top bar so the wait was tolerable. Best for couples as not many tables for four.

Visited with my partner. We did not have a reservation but the staff were very friendly and accommodating managing to squeeze us in. We shared garlic prawns to start which came with bread, so tasty and delicious. My partner had the tuna steak and I had the tuna steak ‘el prego’ (slightly smaller on a bun). We have never tasted anything so delicious and cooked so beautifully- melted away. I had the chocolate mousse to finish and my parter the mojito cheesecake. Would highly recommend, booking advisable.

Good atmosphere, great sangria, long waiting time and rubbish steak.
It was 4 of us and none of us enjoyed their main course. They blamed it on the cow
We won’t be back and are not recommending this place.
