If you are in to some home cooking then a visit here is a must. All fish is caught daily and is very well priced. You will be astounded at the choice of fish on offer.

“Now beautifully restored, this market is a must see in the morning in Lagos”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

The Lagos market is located right in the waterfront, in the center. This is a relatively small market that makes for a great free visit taking 15 to 20 minutes. The original building is from 1924, beautifully restored in 2004. Fish is on the ground floor and vegetables are upstairs. The market is usually full of tourists taking pictures of the many types of fish on display. It is ok to take pictures but it is polite to ask first. Prices are usually inexpensive. Sardines and carapau can be had for around 3 euros per kilo during the Summer. Shellfish and drabs are also sometimes available. Sellers are happy to answer questions on the best way to cook each specific fish (grilled, boiled, stewed, etc). Premium fishes such as cherne are only sold whole. Upstairs besides all the fruit and vegetables there is honey, regional sweets and condiments. And Lagos souvenirs. The top floor (the roof) is open air and a good spot to take shots of the Lagos bay and the city center. Business hours are from early morning until around 13h00. On Mondays there is only very little fish, as fishermen do not go out on Sundays.
