We stayed here for 2 nights and had a lovely 1 bed appartment that over looked the pool, it was in a great location and easy access to the hidden beech and a short walk to the town. It was so peaceful and relaxing and had suck good views
Nice little kitchen, only missing an oven really..

The owner was so helpful showing us the routes to the shops etc!

After we checked out we left our bags and went to the beech, upon return they let us use a room for a shower..

We are looking to go back next year for some more surfing!

The apartments can be difficult to find as no name on door and one could walk by as the building looks more like an old portuguse villa rather than holiday apartments. No good for children, to quiet and not alot of room around the pool area for children to play, ideal for couples of all ages, we loved the peace and quiet around the pool have also stayed in May - At times we were the only ones sitting there, now and again another couple may appear but often felt like our own private villa- Also great location within 5mins from start of the busy town although it is downhill and is cobbled, heels no good. Isabelle is very helpful although you do not see her alot, the reception is not manded alot, but we liked this it did not feel like the normal holiday apartments, you had you own key for the main door and then for your apartment door. Our apartment on 3 floors, with roof terrace giving fab views, table and chairs up there, nice for lunch although a long way to carry up the vino, sandwiches etc, i loved to go up when all ready to go out in the evening have a glass or two of wine overlooking the view of the town and sea. Plenty of good places to eat and drink some noisy bars if you want them or quiet ones if not, we particulary liked Zanzibar music could get loud but a good crowd get in not to young and Alex behing the bar, think part owner is brill. Bit of a walk to the beaches although we were happy with the pool area did not bother with the beach apart from a nice walk on it, the main beach is very nice but i did like the other beaches to the right of the apartments which were more like the typical beaches for Portugal, nice coves and rocky. The Marina area also nice on an evening again with good places to eat and drink. Some small supermarkets in the town there is a larger one out of town slightly still in walking distance although you do not want to be carrying alot of heavy shopping best to take your trolley case if poss to bring shopping back in, esp water, wine etc, at times you could buy water from reception which is better - Overall lovely apartments, not luxury and maybe starting to need a bit updating but so peaceful esp May, Sep and Oct also we love Lagos one of our favourite places, will be hopefully going back here for many more holidays.

Room Tip: we did not overlook the pool we were on the side of the building but lovely view from roof terrace

If I had to comment on one negative aspect of this hotel it was difficult to find. However, once we were at the hotel, everything was wonderful. We had a 2 floor room, which overlooked the pool. The wireless internet didn't work very well in the room, but did in the common area below the front desk. Our room was so quiet and it's a 5 minute walk to the beach. There are so many restaurants to choose from. This was our first visit to Lagos...I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Room Tip: ask for a room overlooking the pool

We travelled with Thomson in mid Sept 2010 for 2 weeks. The coach transfer from Faro is about 2 hours (but Thomson do advise of this on the web site, so we were expecting it). We passed through a number of concrete jungle/ hi-rise resorts on the way and were beginning to think we'd made a mistake booking the Algarve but then we arrived in Lagos. The coach drops you off at the fire station because it cannot get inside the old town so you have to pull or carry your case for about 200 yards to reach the apartments, following Isabel who comes to meet you. First impressions are good, with a pleasant reception area (not manned 24hours, and not at all on Tuesday or Wednesday), but there are steps up to the front door, a flight of steps down to some of the apartments and stairs inside the rooms, which are arranged over 3 floors. I have uploaded some photos of the stairs because some people might struggle with their cases and there is no help. We loved our apartment, especially the roof terrace with its lovely views over the old town and the sea. The owners have taken the trouble to deter seagulls as much as possible, with fine nylon line over the pool area and they did not bother us at all. The decor is a little tired throughout the building but the location is excellent. No need to bring any high heels because Lagos is cobbled - everywhere. There is a variety of lovely restaurants within walking distance and we found the prices very reasonable, especially compared to Greece where we have been for the last few years. The pool area has plenty of beds and parasols. There is no bar at all, just a vending machine dispensing canned drinks. There is a hot tub, but it remained covered for the whole fortnight we were there. It may be that none of the guests asked to use it. The pool itself is long and deep and lovely and there were some lilos and other inflatables for guests to use. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Lagos is beautiful with a wide sweeping bay to one side of the river, and 5 lovely cove beaches backed by steep cliffs closer to the Porta da Vila. The old town walls still circle the town and the old Moorish influence can be seen in many buildings. If you want peace and quiet within walking distance of restaurants and bars, lovely beaches and a lively marina, if you like to sit at cafes and people watch and if you are in fairly good health then this place is a little gem. If you want entertainment, have mobility problems, have children with you or expect luxury then maybe this is not for you.

Me and my boyfriend booked a 1 bed apartment for the first week in october '10. I have been to Lagos once before and my boyfriend and I both loved the night life.
We would recomend going to Casa do Pintor (french restaurant) which is just 20 second around the corner.
The bars are good value, play great music (lots of alternative, rock etc) and the staff in every bar are friendly.
You are spoiled for choice when it comes to Restaurants. Ranging from traditional Portugese to up-market gourmet bistros, to a great sushi restaurant. Most are all under a 5 min walk from the Apartments.

If I could change anything about the apartments, it would be the cleanliness, a bit more atmosphere and comfyer living space.
The place was generaly clean, but the more I looked around our apartment, I noticed lots of little things I wasn't too happy with, like black mould on the toilet window, alot of corners all dirty and dusty and the floors could have been cleaner.

The place as a whole was lovely and very very peaceful, Even though I don't like busy loud resorts, We still felt that the pool area could do with some extra touches like a litle bar with someone there to serve drinks or play music at least for an hour or two as it was a little too quiet at times we were scared to speak too loud!

I didn't find the rooms and living space very comfy as the beds and living room furniture are very basic, and maybe a double bed for couples would make it better.

We did book it knowing it was under 4* and it was self catering and it was the last apartment, so I can't say it was too dissapointing.
The view from our roof terrace was lovely and everything is within walking distance (up and down a hill) but all of Lagos is up and down small hills if you want to explore!
Plus Isobel is friendly enough, and sells (sometimes gives away) 5 ltr bottles of water for 1 euro which is v.handy! The fellow residents were quiet and friendly when you actually saw them, so no hassles or fuss.

The weather wasn't amazing but was hot enough to sun bathe (2 days it was cloudy though.)

I'll definately come back to Lagos in August/September again. Only Porta Da Villa if there's an extra star on the rating though, but thats just me as I am used to more up market accomodation.

Don't take kids as they will be very bored. I'd advise it to couples if they want a quiet mature relaxing holday without spending lots of money on fancy hotels.

Having read mixed reviews about this place ranging from good to terrible! we arrived with trepidation to be met by the lovely Isobel (waiting near the fire station) she took us into the apartments and what a surprise! ours was overlooking the pool area, very spacious for two of us, and then we were left to explore. It is certainly not the place to go if you want entertainment and noise (we didn't!) A few negatives:the place does look a bit tired and unloved which is a shame ,I think they are starting to make improvements but there is a way to go yet, the bathrooms could do with an update! and why when letter tiles are everywhere in Portugal they dont have proper sign outside is beyond me! but its in a great location and Lagos is a great resort with some lovely eating places and shops,Seagulls not a problem they have fine wire over the pool area which prvents them from landing! Lisa the tompson rep was brilliant and visited everyday, although we didn't need her help she always checked we were ok.All in all a lovely relaxing holiday.

Came here with Thomson in July 2010 with my sister.
Lovely rooms but cleaning left a LOT to be desired. Parts of the room was plain grubby because it wasn't cleaned properly in the whole 2 weeks we were there. This was a big no no in what is basically a really lovely place to stay. Great pool, really nice and quiet with lovely guests. However, the outside pool area was also quite dirty and was only cleaned after an official looking gentleman came around to inspect it. Also, there isn't a member of staff there 24 hours, only in the daytime and even then not every day. This caused BIG problems when the fire alarm went off...mmmmmmmmm! I probably sound like a real whinger but I'm pretty laid back so it must have been pretty bad for me to point these things out. However, fabulous location - very near town and although on steep, narrow, cobbled roads my disabled sister could manage walking to and from the town just a few minutes away. Lisa the rep was lovely but broke her leg unfortunately and her replacement just wasn't the same. Lagos is fab - fabulous food and so is the ice cream - yummy. "O Ze" restaurant does the best fish and sangria ever and good price too. The owner Fernanda is such a character! The cleaning lets this place down otherwise its fab....oh! and theres on restaurant on site - no food available at all.
