Stayed from end of July 2009 for 10 days with two boys 13 and 9. Had a one bed apartment pool view. Clean - main bedroom small but lounge sleeping area quite spacious. Staff very pleasant during stay. Conveniently located for Lagos town only 10 mins walk down hill to town and taxi back €5. Pool area very clean and two large pools. Not totally suitable for small toddlers as no baby splash pool but saw plenty of tots in children's pool with armbands. Play room adjacent to pool area with table tennis, pool table, table hockey and table football - a great meeting area for the kids with their pals. Breakfast fine. Didn't stay for dinner but heard good reports. The beaches beautiful but very busy - go to the Maia Preia across from the marina - about 2/3km long and lots of space even in busy times. Strange thing that the Hotel does not provide towels for the pool but got over that. The gym attached to the hotel is amazing - really a five star gym. You wouldn't know it was there unless you sought it out. Had classes in Pilates, spinning etc if wanted to be active. Great indoor pool for serious swimmers with lanes. Very pleased with our choice and great value for the price. Nearest water park "Splash and slide" in Lagoa - kids enjoyed it but very busy. Quiet in the hotel at night.

The Aqualuz hotel was a brilliant find. It's a bit of a leap in the dark booking a holiday on the internet and my only priority was really to be somewhere clean, quiet and walking distance to a beach so that my friend and I could have a quiet recharge holiday.

The hotel far exceeded those minimum requirements. The rooms are mini apartments with a bedroom, kitchenette, lounge/diner, bathroom and balcony. Our twin roomed apartment was immaculate, decked out in modern, aesthetically neutral furnishing - there is air con, fridge, microwave and 2 hob cooker.

The pool is lovely, quite a few families stay there, so there are a quite a few kids running around, but the atmosphere is quiet, calm and friendly. We spent quite a few days lounging by the pool because it was so nice. There is an expensive but very handy snack bar - recommend the mozzarella salad and the cappucino flavour Magnums!

The hotel bar is basic, quiet but nice and there is a sun terrace at the top. The staff are friendly and helpful. Our first room had a slightly funny smell which we thought might be due to drains and they swiftly transferred us to a different room with no qualms or arguments and this room was fine.

Lagos itself is a small town with a marina, 2 beaches within comfortable walking distance from the hotel, a nice massive supermarket about 15 mins from the hotel and lots of small local supermarkets within a very short distance. There is a nice old town area, lots of touristy but perfectly decent restaurants and a really lovely buzzy atmosphere around the weekends. We saw lots of people having a dance in one of town squares, some breakdancing the next day, and lots of singing on the streets. Really nice atmosphere at night - felt very clean and safe. There are a few bars if you want a bit of nightlife, but really this is a nice place to have a bit of the simple life, based from a great hotel.

This was our first time in Lagos and despite recommendations for other hotels from family we chose this one for the facilities. We weren't disappointed, the room was spacious and clean, lovely outdoor pool which you can swim in as well as cool off and plenty of sun loungers to go around. Best hotel gym we've seen for a long time. We went for B&B and couldn't fault the breakfast. Great value for money and the staff were helpful and polite. The location is great as you can walk into the old town but the area is nice and quiet at night so you are not disturbed by noise when you are trying to sleep. The only thing we could fault was that the hob in the studio was rubbish, you couldn't even boil water on it, but with a microwave to hand, who cares!
We would definately stay here again and have already recommended to family and friends.

Stayed 30 Apr - 10 May. We been to Algarve many times and rented a car. This was one of the best resort we stayed. Clean well decorated rooms. Good for 4 star (even by my American standard). The staff were very friendly and helpful (can't understand others who complained). A large free parking lot for car next to hotel. Everything is walking distance. Town Centre with excellent shopping and nightlife (try Stevie Ray Jazz Bar) a 10 minute walk. Beaches 10 minute walk away and beautiful marina. The resort is located in a quite area (with shops on site) but within walking distance of everything. The bar at hotel is too quite but the facilities including gym is outstanding.

we stayed at Aqualuz for a week. We arrived at faro airport late at night. I would advise you prebook a transfer, it is cheaper and a smart idea. We were told taxis late night cost 104 euros, lucky for us a transfer company took us on last minute. Arriving at night, we hoped the hotel would be good, it was amazing. Staff at the hotel are friendly and always helpful.

All guests are welcome to use the gym, indoor pool and hot tub for free. (treatments cost 20 euros or more) The gym is not owned by the hotel, therefore if some gym staff are a little rude its because you are getting in free, therefore i would reccomend you abuse the free facilities. (hot tub)

The Chocolate cake they do, is the best. A down side is that all pools in portugal are not heated, therefore only warm mid-day. we had a small kitchen, big room, nice bathroom, great shower, and balcony with pool view. All staff speak english, and they play english music on a low volume all day, great atmosphere, very peacful.

There are two small supermarkets 5mins walk away, and the bigger intermarche 20mins walk. Long roads nice to walk to supermarket, beaches and town centre, all within 15mins. ( hotels near beach are not as good to look at or safe lookin).

The beaches are beautiful, would advise the boat trip round grotos shaped like animals, (10 euros each) worth it.

If your after a relaxing holiday, nice beaches, safe and big hotel with plenty to do inside the grounds then Aqualuz is worth a visit.

A quiet hotel with great room service and daily cleaning. You have to change the sign on your door to say you want your room cleaned, if not they will presume you do not want your room cleaned, and call u later from reception to ask if you forgot to change the sign, lol.

If you want to visit other places, the reception staff will make free calls to taxis for you. The only bad thing was that all rooms have two single beds put together, (if your a couple, ask if they have a room with a double bed, you could fall in the gap, lol).

Overall great, 1st and last time we will visit portugal, (some place new next summer), the location made it a great stay. We stayed 7days. I would suggest you stay 5days, as there isn't much to do in portugal, but worth going 1nce.
