“Great option”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2011

We stayed here for a week's beach holiday with our two teenage girls. The hotel is very comfortable and spotless. The efficient air conditioning was welcome when the temperature outside was 35 degrees. The rooms were thoroughly cleaned daily. Breakfasts were excellent - plentiful and varied. Free internet access in the lounge is a big plus. Location is perfect; within walking distance of everything. We started each day with a run along the Avenida to the fort at the end of the old town. Initially disappointed with a rear room with a view over the bus station, as no marina view rooms available, but that didn't spoil the holiday. It's a really peaceful place in the midst of a delightful lively and historic town. Very quiet at night. Rooftop pool was small but the pool area was clean and comfortable with wonderful 360 degree views of the town. Our girls found it great for sunbathing. The hotel is very close to good fish restaurants along the Avenida and a short walk into town. Would recommend the Taberna de Lagos in the old town - good food and fantastic live music. We loved Lagos and would come back to the Marina Rio when visiting again. Highlight of the trip was a half day on the Bom Dia boat - tour of the sea caves nearby, sail out to Alvor and then swim in the Atlantic - fantastic day.

Stayed here for 4 days in June for a family celebration. The Marina Rio is a clean and well run establishment that offers everything you could possibly want from a short break. The breakfast was good and varied and location excellent as you could get to most central places within a short walk. The room cosmetically was a bit basic but did the job. It was clean, everything worked and there were nice finishing touches like sewing kit and bath robe. If I was going back to Lagos and needed to stay at a hotel I wouldn't hesitate in staying here again.

The hotel is in a superb position and nothing in Lagos is too far away. Our marina view room had a wonderful view and the balcony was very well used. Nice furniture and a tiled worktop that was ideal for making our lunchtime sandwich. Tea & coffee making facilities in the room so a nice cup of tea on the balcony before breakfast was welcome.
The pool area on the roof was very small but very nicely furnished. We always got sunbeds as it wasn't very widely used. There is a shuttle service to the beach each morning and beach towels are available for a deposit.
The breakfast was very good and all the staff couldn't have been more friendly.
All in all a wonderful holiday as Lagos is a special place and when we come back, which we will, we'll be staying at the Marina Rio.

Room Tip: Do book a marina view room if you can

Hotel is in a brilliant location for marina, beach, town and transport. Very clean, varied and plentiful breakfast and good service from all staff.

Room Tip: We stayed in a marina facing room on 3rd floor which was perfect.

We stayed here for a week in June, having read reviews of the hotel. Our room was a corner room on the first floor facing the marina. It could be a little windy at times and we would recommend asking for a room nearer the centre of the building. The rrom faced the Avenue and whilst traffic was steady at times we never found the noise intrusive and when the patio door was closed it was of no consequence at all. If you were to request a higher floor you might get a better view. The hotel is well appointed and the beds comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and varied and helpfully served until 10.00, a boon after a lie in. Staff were without exception gracious and helpful. The hotel is a little distance from the centre of Lagos, which can be a disadvantage for some, but we found it a pleasant stroll before and after dinner. Car parking was not a problem. We were directed to an area over the swing bridge just two minutes walk and five minutes drive away. You could park at the front of the hotel from 21.00 till 09.00 for 2 euros, and then 'top up' the fee after 09.00 if you wished. All in all a good hotel deserving its number one slot.

Room Tip: Centre room on second or third floor facing marina

Albergaria Marina Rio is opposite the marina which has some restaurants. We enjoyed our stay in 2010 and would return in 2011 but we delayed booking to investigate the Mddle East but no go there. The Marina Rio was fully booked throughout June when we later tried to book. The location is good. A 10 min walk to the Praca Bil Eanes, nr the Town Hall (Camara), brings you to many good restaurants. Try the Catinho Algarvia , 12 Venzezia, a Rua off the Praca. We ate there many times in 14 days - baked fish with roast potatoes, and also roast lamb but also many local dishes. Good and tasty meals for two with wine for 50 to 65 Euro. Also, the Catinho Do Petisco, Rua da Oliveira (further into town). The fish and other meals are great at reasonable prices, hence locals eat there and you need to book.

The hotel has a small rooftop pool though we did not use it. We had a sea view room which was comfortable and well cleaned. The road was a little noisy but not a problem at night (after a few drinks). Rooms on the other side look onto trees and a bus station. Quieter but no view. The staff are very helpful. The breakfast is plentiful with different breads, fruit, cod meat and also some cooked eggs. Note that the room's capacity is below the number of guests in a full hotel. We intend to return soon.

Room Tip: Book for a Marina view room.

We stayed for six days and found the hotel excellent, centrally located, and ideal for touring the western Algarve. Couldn't find fault with any aspect of the hotel. Rooftop pool / sun terrace area has just been repainted for the summer.
Despite being situated on the main road with the bus station to the rear there was very little traffic noise. Front facing rooms overlooking the marina get the sun only until late morning. If you want the sun in the afternoon and evening choose a rear facing room overlooking the town and bus station (Not a major negative)
