“Good location, fantastic service.”
Reviewed July 5, 2014

My friends and I spent 3 nights at Gold Coast recently and were incredibly impressed. The location is very good, close enough to both the town (and nightlife) as well as the coast and the rooms, kitchen and bathrooms were very clean at all times.
The best part about this hostel was the fantastic service. All hosts were very friendly and went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was perfect. We booked an early kayak one day and the hosts were happy to put the breakfast out early for us, provide us with clean beach towels and give us a thorough rundown about the town (including places to eat and things to do).
All-in-all this hostel has been one of the best of our trip.

A friendly and well equipped hostel, in the old town but just outside of the noisy busy area- still within easy walking distance of the restaurants. For self caterers, a well equipped kitchen in which everything works and a supermarket 5-10 minutes walk away. Ask the owner about his tasty home made organic wine [ 4 euros/bottle] and his piri piri sauce. Not a party hostel, a relief for those fed up with noisy drunks coming back and throwing up and/or urinating on the floor.

Great time at end of season (Around Nov. 5th). Plenty of room in kitchen, fridge, terrace - especially when there were only 10 people staying in the hostel. The owner was incredibly helpful when a fellow traveller fell quite ill. Good location! Very clean!

Very clean, very central hostel in Lagos, Portugal. My sister and I have been coming to Lagos since 2009 and stay here every time. It's without all the hoo haa of the Rising Cock, which allows you to get amongst the party of downtown Lagos but sleep in clean conditions. Staff are friendly, Lagos itself is one of my fav places in the world. And the Gold Coast is great, both dorm and privates are good, wifi throughout and amazing staff- cant beat it!!!

This is a very quiet hostel, and not a party hostel in any way.

We stayed in a private room, which is located in a separate building from the main hostel. I think there might have been one other group staying there but we didn't see many people in our building. There was a large kitchen and dining area as well as a lounge room with TV too. There are safes as well for personal items, even though the rooms needed swipe cards to access.

Arthur was very helpful with our induction and gave us plenty of tips and guides of what to do in our stay in Lagos, which restaurants to eat at, and helped us with booking the bus back to Lisbon as well as giving us timetable information.

The hostel is located around 15-20 minutes walk from the Bus Terminal and similar distance to the train station.

From the train station, it's a 20 minute walk to the Gold Coast Hostel; it's in a great location in the old town of Lagos. We stayed in a private room (ensuite), which is in a separate building from the main hostel. Our room was large, spotless, and perfectly cool with AC. The wifi connection was excellent enough for us to stream movies on Netflix! The staff was very helpful and accommodating throughout our stay. We never tried the breakfast because we went out to the same place every morning - Café Odeon. You can't beat it for the price. It's a perfect start to a beach day.
The main attraction in Lagos is obviously the beaches, and my boyfriend and I didn't think we'd be spending much time at our hostel because of this. However, we liked our room so much that we loved coming back to its sanctuary every evening. We spent a lot of time on the rooftop terrace enjoying the sunset, eating meals that we prepared ourselves in the beautiful kitchen, etc. We only saw the other tenants of the building once or twice; it was like having our own private apartment in the heart of Lagos. Overall, this was our favorite hostel in Portugal. We stayed at three other hostels with similar layouts, but this was by far the best. Make it a point to stay here if you're booking as a couple in Lagos!

Room Tip: Private ensuite rooms are located in a separate building - a short walk from the main hostel.

We stayed in a private room with private bath. Room was very small for the price. We were also in a different building than the main reception building so that made checking in, bringing passports, checking out, getting info, using computers, etc. a bit of a hassle. Location was good- away from the noise of the main square but still walkable. Closer to the edge of the city walls where the beaches are located. Very friendly staff... Arthur gave us the ins and outs of Lagos- places to eat, things to do, best prices for activities, etc.
