The main plus I'd give this hotel is that it is perfectly located to explore the centre of Lagos and further afield and to get to experience some of the fantastic restaurants in and around the town. The main bus station is also only about two minutes' walk away. We took a bus to Sagres along the coast (about 45 mins) and also to Cabo de Sao Vicente (Europe's most south-westerly point) from here which was very easy to do and which we'd highly recommend. Very inexpensive.

The nearby marina is worth a visit - the Do Cais bar is great for late afternoon tapas and coffees and there are some good local boat trips operating from there, for example to the grottoes.

The hotel runs a free shuttle bus to Meia Praia beach although we found it easy enough to walk it from the hotel in about 10 minutes. However, I'd say the better beaches in some ways are the small, secluded coves which you can reach on foot if you take the path to Ponta da Piedade just south out of town (walk out past the old fort and take a left on to the coast path). This is also a lovely coastal walk to the Point and only 3km long.

As for the hotel itself, it has a very much '4-star facade' and we couldn't really fault the service but our room smelt rather damp and musty and having stayed a few days we noticed a lot of mould patches all around the patio door and window and up across the ceiling. There was a lot of condensation running down the patio door each morning, even though we tried to keep the room well ventilated when we were there. The air con system was very clunky and ineffective. Fortunately we didn't need to spend too much time in our room as the weather was mostly good, but this would put me off going back again unless we could get a better room.

Breakfasts were very good though - large buffet, lots of choice, kept well topped up. Be careful about additional charges being added to your bill though. I read similar comments in this vein on TripAdvisor before we left and although we paid for things we had expected to pay when we checked out (15 Euros for the week for the safe deposit box, 1 Euro for a local phone call), the hotel had added around 10 Euros for us to salve our conscience about carbon emissions! We were told this was an optional payment and we didn't pay it. Particularly irritated to be charged this as we always comply with the 'towels on the rail means we'll use again' rule - but they had still changed them all and our sheets on most days!!

If you get chance, do try the 'No Patio' restuarant (means "on the patio" in Portugese) on the northern edge of the centre of town. Run by an English expat with a mediterranean-style menu plus a few British classics. The Fernando restaurant which is just down on the main street from the hotel (Avenido dos Descobrimentos) also does fantastic Fish Cataplana. Would definitely recommend Lagos as a quieter resort for those who like a bit of history and character as well as beaches.

Stayed for 4 nights and the place was superb.

Very clean , and staff were very friendly.

The hotel and Lagos was very quiet with only about
12 rooms having guests during my stay.

Nice breakfast with plenty of choice, they even opened
up the breakfast room for me at 5am for my early departure.

Did not use the beach club although they do put on a regular bus.

Would stay again no problem, outstanding value for money.

We arrived at the Tivoli for a half board Christmas break and surf safari, we were pleasantly suprised with the location and the Hotel in general. The staff were very friendly and accomodating, the restauraunt food and service was very good . On Christmas evening we enjoyed a gala dinner evening with free drinks all evening plus live entertainment which was excellent.
The amenities which we used daily were also good such as spa pool, indoor heated pool, games room and free internet access on the hotel computers.
There are two carparks at the hotel one is free and the other was for a fee of 30 euros for a week to park in an underground park with a lift to reception, the free carpark is situated approximately 50yards from the Hotel so I parked there.
The room was comfortable and cleaned daily with clean towels provided as and when required. All in all we had a very enjoyable experience and would not hesitate to return there again

We have stayed here once before it is perfect..
Booked with tour operator 1st time but once we knew the hotel there was no reason to do it again. We also booked a private transfer to collect us at the Airport this worked well they were waiting with name card in arrivals hall, and confirmed all our details the day before over the phone , my husband was very impressed with this part of the service as we were aprehensive being the first time we had done this,.
The service was as cheap as the previous year with the holiday company but approx 2 hours quicker... We had a lovely driver who chatted the whole way and gave info, Suggested 'SHED 10,' which is a fresh fish restaurant eat all you can for 9 euro,s it is behind the marina you must try it! The company name is 'lagostransfers.com' we got a free bottle of wine and really useful a loyalty card where you collect points to gain a free transfer ,good for anyone who travels regularly to the Algarve.
Lagos is gorgeous , has a marina ,long beaches and also coves, historical content , fabulous restaurants and a steady night life if you want it.
The hotel is classy but not over the top and the service is brilliant , it is located in a quiet area although at the same time in the centre of the city.
If you like to get out and about independantly a car is an asset and there is wonderful places locally and further afield to visit . think about Lisbon and even Seville for the day.
See you all again next year..
