Just returned from 10 nights at yellow hotel, hopefully here are some good tips:

Location: it is about 25 min walk from town, we used taxis, during the day there around 6 euro, at night about 8euro. It is facing the beach, which is beautiful, due to being early season there was no sun loungers out, so we stayed at the poolside. There is a really good eating place called berlim which is along the walk way to the beach, fantastic seafood.

Rooms are lovley very modern and kept spotlessly clean, downside is no tea/coffe facilities, I did know before hand and took a kettle which came in very handy.
Bathroom is integrated into the room which is very modern, but not very functional as there is not a lot of room to dry yourself. The toiletries they provide are of a good standard and are replenished every day.

Food: we found it to be of a very high standard in the hotel, portions where reasonably sized, food and drinks were very expensive, not a lot of people eating here due to the price, which is a real shame, if they look at there prices and bring them down they would get more sales as its a hassle to go into town. Breakfast is excellent, omelettes made fresh, fried eggs, boiled etc, cold meats, cheese, pastries, fruit, cereals and sparkling wine. We used the cafe at lunchtime which had good food, a cheeseburger came with no salad or fries came to 8.50 euros, 33cl of water 2.50 euro. The Portuguese govt recently put a tax on food of 23 percent which has not helped this economy.

Towels: these are handed out at the spa area which doesn't open till 10am, if you keep your towel overnight and change them the next day you can sunbathe early, or change them last thing at night.

Spa: 1 st time I have not used the spa on holiday, the prices were very high although they do offers which were not what I was looking for, I didn't see anyone use the spa the whole holiday, shame, again need to look at pricing.

Staff: this is the hotels biggest asset, from Jose on the front desk with his great tips to Anita and paulo serving in the restraunts, they were always helpful and friendly. We booked our trip through travel republic and had to confirm flights and transfers the day before departure, we went to the front desk and pedro, sorted it all for us which was a great help.

Minibar: there is one in the room which they don't fill, which is odd, we used it for milk for the kettle and cold drinks.
Room service is extortionate, they charge for the item and then 10 euro each person n top, again a first for us that we didn't use it.

Laundry: the cheapest item was 5.50 euro for wash and iron, most expensive was 20 euro, dry cleaning was not done on the premises you had to pay for taxis to collect and return item on top of the cleaning price. I normally have all clothing laundered and packed for me by the hotel but this was far too costly to have done, another shame.

Lagos: it's a nice little town with shops, restraunts etc and a historical area. However the economy is so bad we saw numerous people begging, every time we went out we were approached for money, in the supermarkets, locals counting every cent and putting shopping items back they couldn't afford, it was very sad.
There are quite a few restraunts in town, one of which is on the front at the marina, which is so busy with locals as well as tourists, great seafood and good atmosphere, they do steaks etc as well, for starters, mains, coffee, bottle wine, desert for 2 it was 40 euro. We ate quite a few times there and in town.

Conclusion: Lagos is pretty and the Portuguese people are so lovley, we would definitely return.
As for the hotel we will come back, I have told my friends and family to look at this hotel for there next holiday.

Room Tip: Take a kettle with you.

Can't fault this hotel at all. We stayed here for 5 days and found the staff and service to be excellent. Would definitely stay here again.

We spent a week at this hotel in April this year. The hotel is very modern and clean, staff were very attentive and helpful. The hotel is within a few minutes walk away from the beach and our room had a lovely sea view. Our rate included breakfast, the breakfast was fine however the hot food buffet was a let down. Whilst at the hotel we had a massage in the spa this was very relaxing and had cocktails in the bar most evenings. I would definitely visit this hotel again.

Just returned from a 10 night stay at this ultra modern and spotlessly clean hotel. Despite previous reviews we found all of the staff delightful and very friendly. Our room was very comfortable with a huge bed and the usual tolietries etc provided. Only thing missing was the facility to make tea/coffee.
We had booked this holiday through Travel Republic and the information given by them was the dining options included 2 restaurants so we opted for half board. This was a mistake as we were only allowed to eat in the Kitchen restaurant which offered a buffet style meal. Whilst this was fine for breakfast this restaurant had no ambience whatsoever and on several occasions we were the only people in there. There was another restaurant called Browns but this was only open three evenings per week and those on half board could only eat there if they paid the full amount which was quite expensive. We did object to this as we felt a five star hotel should offer a choice. We did actually eat in both restaurants but have to say the food was probably more 3 star than 5. The guy who seemed to be running both restaurants ,Paulo, was brilliant and very good at his job giving us advice on local wines and also places to visit.
Although the hotel had an indoor swimmimg pool guests were only allowed to use it between 7am and 9am and again in the evening between 7pm and 9pm. If you wished to use it at any other time you had to pay 10 euros per person per session to use the spa which included the use of the indoor pool! Never come across that in any hotel previously!
As for the location we were very happy with this. We enjoyed walking on the beautiful beach directly opposite the hotel and used the beach bars there for lunch. We did have a car for the duration of our stay and visited other resorts but felt Lagos was certainly the best.
All in all a very nice holiday and yes we would stay here again but not on half board.

This hotel is very well designed, exceptionally well furnished and spotlessly clean. It is in a great location on the outskirts of Lagos, a very pretty fishing village on the Algarve and fronts on to a beautiful beach, with three great, very friendly beach bars.

BUT it is very badly and sadly let down by atrocious customer service from its front desk and - most crucially - its manager.

There is no concierge so you rely for local information/advice on the front desk, among the staff of which absolutely no-one has any local knowledge at all.

On a day when it was raining, the front desk attendant who, the day before, had invited us to speak to him if 'we got bored', informed us that he was sorry but 'when the sun doesn't shine, there's nothing to do.' Seriously!

He then proceeded to give us really bad advice which - I won't go into detail - but ended up costing us a lot of money and, when we complained, not only was there no solution offered (despite us chasing several times), there was literally no answer. We just kept being told: 'I have no answer from the manager.' (and the manager was so rude that he/she (we don't know!) never even bothered to speak to us).

I've stayed in hotels all over the world, from YHA's up and this 'five star' hotel offered me among the worst service I've ever experienced.

Such a shame.
