My wife and I have been eating at this restaurant for about 5 years now. We spend about 3 to 4 months of the year in Lagos. We have never had a bad meal. Sure, the place gets crowded, which, to us, adds to the atmosphere. You need to arrive before 7 pm on weekdays..earlier on Sundays...to get a table without queuing. Buy the house wine (served in a carafe) for €6 per litre. It's good. Also don't just have the sea bass. Get the perca (sea perch steak), corvina (stone bass steak) of the fresh cod (bacalau fresco). The fish is cooked perfectly. If you want a quiet night with no hassle and bustle choose another restaurant.....but you will pay more and the fish will not be as well cooked. I am surprised that this place is so low in the Tripadvisor popularity list. It is listed as the best value for money and typical Portuguese restaurant in Lagos in a few Portugal travel guides.

Have given good reviews on our previous visits two years ago, but things ain't what they used to be. On our first visit this time we had prior booked as before and it went well as we only had to wait five minutes past our booked time for a table. On our second visit five days later, when we had booked for 8.30pm, we arrived at 8.25pm when there were 10 people queueing outside (3 groups of 2 and 1 group of 4) who had not booked. We made ourselves known to the staff and were asked to wait inside the door. We stood there until 8.50pm before we were shown to a table, by which time all of the people queueing had been shown to tables, making us feel very uncomfortable. When we went to order our first two choices from the menu were not available so had to have third choice from what is not a very big choice menu.
This place will probably always be busy as it is probably the cheapest meal in town, and the food is usually ok, if you can get what you want, have fish though as they don't do very good on meat dishes. Also be prepared to be packed in like sardines as tables are as close to each other as possible and no elbow room. If you want good personal service and a relaxed meal this is not the place to go.

Great place, vibrant, friendly efficient staff, fresh produce which if you walk past early in the day you will see them coming back from the fish market, not a place to go for a romantic meal but this would be the only occasion that I wouldn't go

Go early well before 7.30 or prepare to queue.
It's easy to see why it's so popular with simple, well cooked food in enormous proportions and well priced wine. The chicken dish is a whole chicken, the lamb 5 chops and the fish fresh and huge.
Service is prompt and efficient while kind and helpful.
If you like large amounts of cheap, unpretentious food in a communal dining room, this place is for you.
