We took a catamaran out with a local tourist company. The tour guide was exceptionally knowledgable and his language skills were fabulous, switching from German, English and Portuguese with ease. He managed all the tourists on the catamaran very well and included everyone. Plenty of wildlife to see along the way (if that's your thing). Very relaxing journey to Ilha Deserta. We spent about an hour walking along the beach and had a coffee in the only restaurant there. Whilst there isn't much there it's a nice relaxing way to spend half a day or even a full day if you want to stay and sunbathe and have a meal at the restaurant. We could have stayed longer as we were given the option to return on any boat. Last one is around 5pm! Don't miss it!
Worth a go. €25 per adult.

Nice beach, warm sea great for swimming during last few days of October. Loads of room so you can be alone if you wish.

10 Euro's each for a nice boat ride through the Ria Formosa Nature Park to Deserta Island, the most southern point in Portugal...where you are free to stay and explore the remote beach for as long as you want. Great shells! :-)

This was one of the best days of our fabulous Algarve holiday! The small ferry to the island runs four or five times a day in this season and is a very pleasant 45 minute water taxi to Deserta. There is one ecologically designed wooden building housing the restaurant, bar and facilities. The rest of the island consists of about 11km of sugar sand beaches and clear blue waters. We were so lucky with our weather, but the sense of space serenity & freedom on this exquisite little island is beyond compare. Highly romantic! Next time we would take a bottle of bubbly to enjoy on one of the deserted beaches! Loved it! Would most definitely return!
