“Good base for exploring Faro”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

We stayed here for seven nights in early September as part of a late summer holiday. The hotel is bang in the centre of Faro, opposite the marina and with fantastic views from the rooftop restaurant across the Ria Formosa.

It was a perfectly good place to stay but it felt very much like a business hotel - impersonal, functional furnishings, no real character. But we'd read previous reviews and looked at pictures so we weren't expecting anything else and it suited us fine. The place was spotlessly clean, the bed was comfortable, and the room was big enough that we could spread out our stuff.

Breakfast is taken in the rooftop restaurant - either indoors or out. It's a buffet and there was a good selection every day of the usual hot and cold breakfast fare with, usually, a daily special of a local variety of cake.

We eat in the same restaurant in the evening three times. The first two times the food was delicious - beautiful fresh fish - and the service was good. The third time was on our final Saturday night and it was disastrous. We were served by four different waiters, none of whom seemed aware of what the others were doing, we waited an hour for food, I had to go and remind them of some of our order, and the food, when it came, was not a patch of the meals we had had earlier in the week - a small portion of overcooked fish and semi-cold vegetables. The restaurant was full that night (the other nights it had been almost empty) and clearly the kitchen and waiting staff couldn't cope. We heard three other tables complain and one couple walked out. And when I complained after our meal the waiter just shrugged and said that the they were missing some staff - no apology forthcoming and not even a drink on the house to make amends.

Conclusion: a perfectly decent place to stay if you aren't expecting too much. Clean and functional but nothing beyond the call of duty. And be careful of the restaurant - if you can get there on an empty night, try it - otherwise, go elsewhere - there are lots of fantastic restaurants in Faro.

This is a fine and well positioned hotel which is comfortable, well sized and has great facilities. It is well worth booking a marina view which is stunning and the stork on a lampost outside the window kept us well entertained.
The breakfast buffet was generous in the extreme and as good as I have had anywhere. Helpful staff and decent value.

Room Tip: Room 232 had the marina view and, because it was on a corner, was larger than average. It had a fin...

Good location and great view of the marina of Faro, with our Eme bar Lounge bar very close
The Eme Lounge is a new bar in the city of Faro which is open every weekday from 10:00 am to 02:00 with an enclosed terrace and free internet, Eme opened its doors to the public ever during this year and in midsummer.

Stayed here in the bank holiday weekend. The hotel overall was average: nice, clean and spacious.

Check-in was quick and when we went to our room we realised it had not yet been cleaned so the housekeeping staff had to help us move to another room. When we finally got to our room it was a good size and had a good view of the square.

Breakfast had a good buffet selection and the view from the terrace was beautiful.

Downfall to this hotel was the overall service from the staff was not too friendly. Also please do NOT order cocktails from the bar in the restaurant they are appalling.

If I were to go back to Faro again I would most definitely stay in the Hotel Eva just literally across the road.

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay in Faro, and were very happy with our choice of this hotel.

We booked a standard room but requested a marina view if available; and were well rewarded with a nice spacious room with 3 large floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the marina...........the hotel has actually only 6 rooms which face the marina, and windows get smaller on higher floors! Our fab view however came at a cost as it was accompanied by traffic noise, especially noticeable early on the weekday mornings.

Aside from the view, our room was bright, clean and modern, with a comfortable double bed. There was sufficient storage space, a safe, a fridge, and an excellent shower in the bathroom. In fact our only criticism was that the room seemed a little bit "sterile" as almost everything was white.

Breakfast is served in the fourth floor restaurant which has a large outdoor terrace overlooking the marina and the old town. Although there is a good selection of food some of it was disappointing; the "hot" food was only barely tepid, and the juices were not freshly squeezed. However, the croissants and the little Portuguese custard tarts were absolutely delicious, and being able to enjoy your breakfast while sitting in the warm sun (in October) and looking out at that lovely view more than made up for any deficiencies in the food.

In summary: if you want a good, well located hotel at a reasonable price, I would happily recommend the Faro; but if you want facilities such as swimming pools and fitness centres then you should opt for the (more expensive) Hotel Eva just opposite.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room, request one overlooking the pedestrianized street.

The hotel is located at the center of Faro. Very close of the train and bus station so if you travel without car is excellent. In any case Faro is a small city, so really any hotel close to the center will do it. We slept in a double standard room at the third floor. Below the restaurant. The size of the room was fine. There were two single beds together and mattress were firm. Room was very sunny in the morning. Views were normal. There is a small fridge, a small chest of drawers but for 4 days was plenty. In the morning we were able to listen people walking on the top floor but not noisy at night at all. Workers were friendly and polite. WIFI is free on the lobby but not in the rooms. Breakfast was great, recommended. I think is a good hotel.

Faro was the beginning of our road trip and we stayed at Hotel Faro for one night. The hotel is located across the marina with shops and restaurants at your door step.
The room was clean and comfortable though it was very basic for superior double room.
After reading some of the reviews, I had high expectations for breakfast and it did live up to my expectations - the food was fresh and delicious with good variety. We sat at the balcony with a nice view of the marina (photo attached).
Staff were very friendly and attentive at both the reception and the breakfast room.
Garage is available however it is not free. I do not recall how much it cost but I do not think it was a big deal.
I would not hesitate in staying there again even longer as Faro is such a nice city.
