I would highly recommend Residencial Madalena in Faro Portugal. It is like a hotel so don't get confused with the name. We went there in December, not really high season, maybe that's why it was quiet on the street at night, as we previously read it might not be. However, the place is a 3 storey old building, renovated, with nice 2, 3, 4 bed rooms with bathrooms. Although, bathrooms are slightly tiny and they look really old. Nevertheless, receptionists speak english pretty good. The breakfast is included, however we missed it so it's hard to have our opinion on it. The place is really close to everything, bus/rail station, marina, bars, cafes, clubs, all are no more than 5 mins walk. Beach is 20 mins away by bus, national park tours from the marina every day. Recommended for a stay in winter, as it's really cheap then; can't say about summer but I think it's 3 times more that expensive (from the price list in the reception) and much louder at night (other opinions).
