Entirely our fault - gullible or coerced? You decide.
As the only venue in Faro advertising Fado we booked a table for the Friday night, our last night of our holiday - and an evening I am determined (after writing this) to forget.
We had such positive experiences and great times during our stay in Faro, this was unexpected and especially disappointing as the Fado was great (even though we left after the first set - the evening spoilt).
The waiter who served us talked us into a full size bottle of wine as they had 'no half sizes' and had opened the wine before we noticed it was not the wine we had asked for. We let it pass.
After choosing our main course, the big mistake came with the prawn "hors d'oeuvres" (which I did not want but was talked into). Two giant prawns arrived (a meal in itself) - as our 'starter'! We were expecting something smaller - a STARTER.
Knowing the price of seafood I suggested my husband check the price. Euros 33.00 for two prawns. I felt we had been taken for a ride. We ate the prawns (stringy and tough, dare I say) and after picking at our main course left most of it, paid the bill of Euros 77.00 and left.
Were we just plain stupid or was this a regular slick operation to push people's bills up?
We had intended to spend a bit more on our last night but I just felt used.
Perhaps a covert charge for the Fado would be more appropriate?
