“So glad we found it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2009

We stayed here a couple of years ago for a short break after our wedding. We had such a lovely week and loved this place. We had trouble finding it again on the internet as don't think they are with the big holiday companies but now we have found it we will be booking our stay again for next year. Very relaxing, quiet part of the town, no disturbance whatsoever, close to the town - only reason for the 4 for location is that there is quite a hill going up to it. Staff lovely. Can't wait to visit again.

This was the second time we had stayed with Jose & Amanda, this time we drove down from the UK, and rolled up unannounced! Jose only had 1 room left, but by the time we had a drink & a snack the room was ready for us. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice and clean, good size pool which never seems too busy. Only downside for some is that it is situated at the top of a steep hill, but don't let this put you off. Can't wait to return to this fantastic village, and hopefully to the same hotel again.

Jose and Maria Amanda are like extended family nothing is too much trouble and you are are part of their family during your stay. Fantastic Rooms and Dining/Bar area. Admittitdly it is a bit of a steep hill upto the property, depending which way you go, but it's well worth it. Our 1st trip there, our little-un was in a buggy so it was a bit traumatic the first couple of nights but we soon got into the groove and let our teenage daughter push the buggy up the hill while we sauntered up. Joking aside, the pool area is safe, secure and very clean, Maria Amanda provides fantastic fresh snacks and lunch's and full bar service is also available, which is better value than in town, which is cheap even if you large it up.
Don't know what else to say apart from it's a fantastic place to stay, hence we've been going twice a year for the last four years.
Enjoy.

We booked this as a late deal with a travel agent with only stipulation of must be from Stansted and a short flight. It was a real lucky find. The town of Carvoeiro was the best place we found in the area and this lovely, friendly ,family run hotel is just 5 minutes walk inland.

The hotel has just 11 rooms. Ranging from an apartment with small kitchen to just a small twin bedded room. These are on two floors. We had a large double room with sitting area and balcony. There was a large bathroom and some good features. The air-conditioning worked well and was 'free'. We had new double glazed sliding door onto balcony which also had metal shutters with ventilation. We had a small fridge (stocked with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at bar cost) with room to hold our drinks, kettle (tea and coffee supplied at cost), TV with lots of European channels and a safe (at cost).

Breakfast was also provided free and it's very reasonable. Cereal, rolls, ham/cheese, fruit, yoghurt, cake, etc, etc. This was served in the lounge bar which has a nice veranda overlooking the pool and the town (with sea view - just).

The pool as nice. It's small but it's 4-5ft deep and usually empty. There are plenty of sun beds and infrequently used. Next to the pool is a snack bar serving drinks and good food all day, at reasonable prices (5 euros for steak sandwich and chips).

In the evening the owner runs a small and friendly bar with the prices being very good. There is a big TV in the bar or music, and the same outside tables if you want quiet or the cool air.

As always there were a few small downsides. The owner likes his football (we don't) so it's usually on the tv. The beds are not the most comfortable, but they did find a special hard pillow when I asked for one. The view from the balcony isn't that great, but you do overlook some undeveloped land, and if you crane your neck a bit you can just glimpse the sea.

You are at the top of a steep hill. As we said it's only 5 mins walk into the top end of the town, but it would be a hard walk back if you were infirm for any reason. On the good side you are at the end of town where all the better restaurants are. The centre of town is better for shopping and there is a great variety of restaurants. Portuguese, Chinese, French, 'English', Thai, and lots of bars.

So to sum up. Lovely , small , quiet hotel. Very friendly and in a great town. Recommended for a quiet holiday or if you have a young family.
