We ate as a family of 4 - children's food was basic but came with fresh brocolli and pureed carrot! Adults food v v v good. Only reason for not giving a 5 star mark is the decor which is OK but v v dated.

We went to Elliotts in September this year whilst on holiday in Carvoeiro having seen it advertised in 'Free Maps' which you can obtain in the area. Sounded lovely, ran by people from Guernsey, crispy fish & chips was mentioned and as fancied a bit of home cooked food thought we'd give it a try. The restaurant looks nice and the square is pretty. We arrived to find the restaurant quite full and had not booked so were told it would be around a half hour wait which we said was fine. As we were leaving a couple called us to say they were leaving in a couple of minutes and their table would then be free which was very kind of them. We told the restaurant but there was certainly no rush to get it ready for us. Finally, we were told we could take a seat and then waited around 15 minutes and still no-one offered us a drink or a menu so I had to go to the counter to ask for them. The lady I spoke with said sorry that she didn't even know we were there and asked us to be patient... I thought we already had been. We ordered wine, starters of calamari and piri piri prawns, the prawns were nice although not many for 8 euros and whilst the batter on the calamari seemed crispy and light you could taste the fat which was overpowering the whole dish. We had ordered fish and chips and was then worried they would be the same, and unfortunately they were and the batter stayed crispy for about 2 mins. No-one came to ask how our food was, they seemed more interested in sorting a table of 10 out and as we were already unhappy just decided to get on with it but only ate the fish from the middle and left pretty much all of the dinner other than that due to the saturated fat taste. When the waiter finally came over to clear our table when almost everyone had left the restaurant we told him we were unhappy with the food and that we thought that based on the quality of the food and service we had received we felt that it was reasonable if we paid for everything with the exception of one mail meal. We asked to speak with the Manager but accordingly to the waiter he had very conveniently just left and although he said he was in charge said he was not able to make that decision, so was he in charge or not? I said if you are not prepared to do this for us I will have to write a review to share our experience with others in the hope they don't receive the same kind of service. The waiter apologised for the poor service and agreed it should have been better but said that 'no-one else had complained before' - definitely not the best thing to say, not sure the purpose of that, was he trying to say we were lying or perhaps he thinks our standards too high! The issue was we weren't happy about 'our' experience at all which was the whole point. We paid 57 euros for the meal so it wasn't cheap by any means and we thought (maybe wrongly) that as the owner was from Guernsey he may know a bit about fish, seafood etc having been there myself and visited nice resaurants. I think that 'Free Maps' should remove it from their list as there are far far better restaurants all around Carvoiero.... we had some lovely meals, one of our favourites was Julios just outside Carvoiero but there are many other good ones which are great value for money such as Bife do Casa where you can get a lovely steak on stone for just under 10 euros. The waiter told us that he would give us a coffee on the house which we eventually accepted and said that we should have told him sooner that we weren't happy and he could have replaced the meal although you could see clearly by what we left that we were not happy. Had I thought about it at the time I should have taken a photo. I would never ever go back there or recommend it to anyone based on our experience. Would have been nice if they had asked how our food was when they'd given it to us or am I expected to get up and chase them on that point too.... don't go!

As a party of 6 adults and 3 young children all requiring high chairs we stumbled across this appealing restaurant and were greeted by enthusiastic English staff who did all they could to accomodate us. We had a faultless dining experience. Superb food at reasonable prices and excellent service/attention to detail. We enjoyed it so much that a couple of our party returned the following evening and enjoyed a similar experience.
Unfortunately our experience was soured when we returned several days later. The restaurant was busy but an empty table was available. We were not greeted and the waiter simply shrugged his shoulders when we asked if we could sit at the empty table. We waited 10 minutes before walking out due being completely ignored.
If you are lucky and go on the night when the attentive staff are working you will have a great experience, otherwise - good luck! What a shame as the food was in my opinion exceptional!

We went to Elliotts twice last year on holiday & for the first time ever we returned to the same resort. We were all really looking forward to going back for some more delicious food and was warmly welcomed by the very nice, calm and pleasant waiter. The food as always, was lovely - and we were glad to return. Seeing others being rudely turned away for not booking, we made a reservation for a night the following week.
This time we were greeted (?) by the older lady - quite clearly, we were in her way, didn't order in her particular favoured way, wasn't quick enough, didn't expect to order our meals before our drinks - even our 6 year old commented at her banging down our bread!
Elliotts is a lovely place, in a lovely location, with great food and a fabulous waiter - let down only by 'Mrs Angry'. Such a shame.

Having read recent reviews for Elliot's including a mixed review we decided to give it a go, bit of a mistake!

As others found, the welcome we received from the lady at the restaurant was rude and very unwelcoming. As a party of 4 adults and a baby in a pram we were abruptly told that our baby was a problem despite there being plenty of tables where we could be put and the pram would not get in the way. Instead we were put right next to the entrance to the indoor seating area with me being told I could put my baby in the recess to keep him out of the way!!!

Despite the uncomfortable start we soldiered on and had a look at the menus, which was relatively uninspiring. If you like everything battered then is the place for you. The abrupt lady returned to take our order which she demanded be done in strict order. We ordered bread for the table after listing all our other starters which clearly she wasn't happy with and then we only received a portion for one. Tip: if you want bread for the table you all have to order it individually with your starter! Keep to the rules.

When the food arrived it was very nice. Two of us had the steak medallions which are really nice, the monkfish and the Salmon in lime sauce which were also very good. If only the service lived up to the quality of food.

Other diners in the restaurant didn't seem to be enjoying the atmosphere either which was chilli at best. If you arrived without a booking you were swiftly dismissed despite there being tables available. You got the distinct feeling they didn't want any more diners.

To top off a thoroughly horrid experience, our plates were cleared from our table and the bill promptly thrust under our nose. We were not offered desserts or coffees and were made to feel as if we should leave as soon as possible. Which we did gladly.

Overall the experience was one we would like to forget and will not be returning. The food is very good but not worth the terrible service and shocking atmosphere. Give it a miss as there are lots of other lovely places to eat in the area!
