On arrival at1am on check in was told were villa was n had to walk n find on our own! With 2 small children was very difficult! The villa was lovely as were the cleaning staff but rest were not at their best ! The restaurant breakfast was lovely n good choice but dinner was very limited n first night we had wait til nearly10 pm for a table as very small place again with2 little ones who were very tired! Meals limited only choice5 starters n main the whole of our stay so became boring! On going to outside pool we were faced with sun beds in big group n glasses n pizza box’s in a mess plus bins overflowing! I had go to reception to ask somebody to clean area up before we could go there( 11am) in morning! Had buy swim hats for pool for children ! Treatments offered but couldn’t find staff to book one! The pool area in a mess weeds growing out of tiles n wall around needed mending n pool area never washed down n very dirty our feet were black! We saw rats running by the indoor pool area! An stray dog wandering about n not removed! It looked very ill n was covered in ticks! Am glad only half board as people who were full board couldn’t even get a beer until 12 midday! An could only get1 ice cream for children at 4.30 ! The bar was very small n no entertainment except 1 night but unable to sit as no chairs with over80 villas an only enough room for20 people in bar! Said children’s area! But just plat area by gate n road! No entertainment for children as advertised in advert!

Your constructive observations are most valuable, and were shared with our management, allowing us to understand and measure customer’s satisfaction, and also to take action and improve the areas where we are not meeting our guest’s expectations.

Your observations about the restaurant/bar service and options as well as lack of supervison around the pool are, they were also forwarded to our F&B management, who are always attentive to our guest´s views and opinions, very often implementing the suggested interventions.

Regarding entertainment, we only have more options towards high season, like we do now, including for children

I read the previous reviews and cannot agree regarding the reception staff. Vera and Suraya (hope the spelling is right) could not be more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were fun to be around, lovely ladies
Our stay was really good. We were looking for quiet and relaxing and this was just what we got.
The food was superb, we had a buffet each meal for the first couple of days as the ‘World Cup for Lawyers’ was being hosted and the food was high standard with plenty of choice. Day three we moved to A La Carte for lunch and Dinner. Again the food was really good. Not sure if the menu is changed regularly as despite the great food it may get repetitive. We were only there for six days so just fine for us
Carlos, Miguel and Jose in the bar were super friendly and we enjoyed our pre and post dinner drinks with them.
Would highly recommend Vale Da Lapa for complete relaxation, thanks for a great stay.

Absolutely beautiful. We stayed here for 10 days in a three bedroom villa (villa #84) with 8 people. The villa was beautiful - one of the nicest I’ve seen. The decor, facilities and cleanliness were second to none. Three bedrooms, all en suite were immaculate. The kitchen was well equipped and indoor and outdoor living space was ideal. We had friends staying in a two bedroom villa and they were beautiful as well.

The breakfast had everything you could want, the coffee was amazing and the sweet girl at the egg station makes the best eggs!

The staff were accommodating and attentive. I would highly recommend this resort. We would definitely stay here again.

The hotel was very beautiful, a lovely pool, and an indoor pool too which I imagine would have been really good in the slightly colder months. The apartments are also very nice, clean and with a balcony. However, the receptionists are extremely rude, on several occasions we asked them for information and they treated you like dirt. I’ve never had a more stressful experience trying to book a spa treatment, first of all we were told to go to the spa which we did, then waited 20 minutes but no one came so we called the reception who told us to go back up there, so we went back up and then the staff were just unfriendly and unhelpful, it would have been easier to just go somewhere else. I have a feeling they would not have treated other guests this way but felt they could get away with it because we are a young couple. Other frustrating things about this hotel is that you have to pay to buy a swimming cap to go in the spa pool which is fine and we did this but no one else in the pool was so we felt like we wasted our money. The food was very good too but the starters were all weird fish such as octopus and sardines which I can’t eat so I had to have the same starter every night which was very boring. We only stayed here for a week but twice we had to wait over 2 hours for our food due to lack of staff which is also not ideal. However, the waiter staff were very pleasant and helpful so we mostly asked them if we wanted to know anything rather than dealing with reception. The final disappointment of our stay was when a football team came to visit and on our final two nights they provided a carb and meat heavy buffet instead of a menu as the footballers were more important than the guests. I wouldn’t stay here again unless they changed a lot of things because for the price you pay the quality does not add up.

A pleasant welcome at reception reinforced the opinion we formed upon arrival that this 5* hotel seemed classy. A quick look at the pool and large, spacious villa...we anticipated a fine 4 day stay. Wrong!
Living on the complex produced a very different view: no locks on toilet or bathroom; shower leaked into bathroom and bedroom (not first time as water has discoloured timber facings); unusable, dangerous burst sofa (see pic); sparsely equipped kitchen (no egg cups, no mixing bowl, no lid for teapot!); dreadfully slow Internet when it was 'up' (tested at 0.4mbps); rubbish in the guttering at pool and at various points throughout grounds (see pics).

There is a one-way system on the site, unless you drive a white van belonging to hotel...so dangerous with kids around. The hotel is a long way from Carvoeiro, so suggest you need a car.

When we brought matters to the attention of staff there was an 'we've heard it all before' attitude. We were advised that the sofas were to be replaced. Certainly, some matters were addressed but no permanent solutions.

This could be 5*, but serious management required.
