Visited on a tennis holiday. Apartments lovely with lots of space and huge master suite. But needed to ask for a kettle and you need to bring all your kitchen lotions and potions. Cleaning was excellent and daily. At the hotel, the breakfast adequate but dinner less successful. Pool not heated but lovely toddler pool. It's billed as a 5 star which it is just not. Helpful staff though who were happy to book a taxi to the town.

Recently visited Vale da Lapa and was very impressed with the complex layout, size of the accommodation and cleanliness. Pool area was very comfortable and not having to rush down every morning to grab a sunbed was very welcome! We opted for B&B and we found the breakfast to be good quality with good choice - gets a little busy around 10 but nothing really unusual about that. We did eat in the Hotel on two occasions in the evening. Food was OK although we would have expected a better quality from the barbecue evening given its a 5 star hotel. Service from staff was always courteous and helpful when assistance was requested. The Hotel is a good 30 minute walk (uphill on the way back!) from Carvoeiro itself which means having to use Taxi's. While the taxi fare varied it averaged about €6/€7 each way. You can wait up to 30 minutes for a taxi at times. There are some local restaurants within about a 5 minute walk in the village Sesmarias. The Hotel also offer a free shuttle bus to a local beach which is well worth a visit however suggest you bring a packed lunch or else book a table at the restaurant on the beach in advance. Overall, from our perspective, the quality of the accommodation made it a very enjoyable and relaxing holiday.

We stayed here for the weekend and the entire property looks very beautiful and charming. The staff at the front desk was kind and explained the concept to us, where the pool and services were located and everything we needed to know so definitely a plus.

One downside is that the road around the villas is a one way only road, so if you have the last/first villas and you wish to park close by you will need to make a full trip around either to arrive or leave your villa when the road is so wide it could easily fit two cars crossing.

The only other downside is that upon closer inspection the villas seem to be in need of some work or maintenance and there was a towel rack glued to the wall with duct tape in one of our bathrooms for instance.

Other than that the breakfast was amazing and plentiful, the pool was very pleasant and there is a shuttle to the beach if you don’t feel like walking (it’s a bit gruesome to go by foot) or taking your car (parking can get quite wild).

We have just returned from a week long stay at the Vale de Lapa. I travelled with my husband and 12 year old son. We had previously stayed in a private villa in Sesmarias so knew the area quite well, this time as there was only the 3 of us going we thought a complex would be better for our son. Firstly to clear up any confusion regarding the accommodation.
Some holiday sites describe the accommodation as villas and apartments, or suites, basically there are around 30 detached villas with private pools dotted around the perimeter of the site, then there are around 70 2 storey houses in blocks of 4 or 5. Although joined together they are staggered in such a way to maximum privacy when on the patio or upstairs balcony. Each house has two ensuite bedrooms, it is possible to book one bedroom, they just lock the other room so that you can't use it. If travelling with young children it is best to book the two bedroom as otherwise someone will have to sleep downstairs on the sofa bed.
The house was very well equipped, full kitchen with toaster, electric kettle, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a downstairs toilet. The house was cleaned everyday and towels changed. Pool towels are provided free of charge for the duration of your stay and you can get fresh ones everyday if needed. The pool is not that big and while there aren't that many sun loungers we never saw anyone having to do without.
The 'Spa area' is not what I would describe as a Spa, the indoor pool was full of young unsupervised children not wearing swim caps, even though you are told at check in that they have to be worn. There really should be a member of staff regularly checking both pools for health and safety purposes. As others have previously said the sun loungers could do with being upgraded to something more luxurious.
We were on a bed and breakfast basis and the breakfast was ok, just the usual buffet style, quite repetitive. The complex is very peaceful, the nightlife is very low key with only a handful of people using the restaurant and bar in the evenings, but we didn't mind as we went into Carvoeiro each night to eat.
We would recommend this complex and would certainly stay again if we were returning to the area. Yes, certain aspects are not 5* but we were very pleasantly surprised by the site and the house and could not find any major faults. Car hire is essential for this area, it is about a 7 minute drive into Carvoeiro and I think even the most fittest of people would find it hard going to walk in and out of town every evening, especially as in some areas there are no footpaths and poor lighting.

Room Tip: Ask for a room closer to the pool and restaurant as some houses are quite a walk.

We had a wonderful holiday at Vale de Lapa in what was our 4th consecutive year. The resort facilities, restaurant, accommodation and location are all excellent but what sets it apart from other resorts are the people. The staff at Vale da Lapa are lovely, from the cleaners, maintenance staff, kids club staff, restaurant & reception staff all the way up to the General Manager. We have already booked for next year!
