“A superb short break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2013

Just returned from a 4 night short break with my adult daughters. The staff were so helpful and polite and the service was very good. We had a two bedroom apartment which was spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. We had lunch there a couple of days but there is a need for a more varied lunch menu with more Portuguese recipes. We ate out every night at our favourite restaurants. The spa was excellent with some good offers and the staff here were delightful.
Would recommend this hotel for a short break and would definitely return. I don't know about in the season if there are enough sunbeds or room to swim and sunbathe as it seemed a bit crowded off season.

Room Tip: ground floor apartments near to amenities do not really have any outside sunbathing space and in the...

It is difficult to be overly critical of such a well-run resort, as the overall holiday experience provided is of an exceptionally high standard, and I would doubt whether any reasonable person could return from a holiday at Vale d'Oliveiras Quinta Resort without being largely satisfied with the whole occasion.
Therefore whilst the holiday was better than good, there remains reason to question why the original brief for the development failed to specify the need for proper catering facilities at the pool bar (considering that there are no other bar facilities provided at the resort). The major plus point of the resort is the efficiency and friendliness of all of the staff, and the invisibility of any overt management presence, suggesting that a very rigorous staff selection process is employed at the resort, and that customer orientated training is a key requisite for all employed at Vale d'Oliveiras.
It also remains difficult to comprehend why no shaded areas are provided, other than at poolside, which probably explains why some reviewers have been critical of fellow visitors who seek all-day to 'reserve' sun loungers with beach towels.
It remains beyond doubt that the Pool Bar is over-priced and only gets busy during the 'happy hour' and, as commented by others, visitors should avoid at all costs the 'Chicken Burger' or 'Chicken Nuggets' on offer at the Pool Bar!
The range and quality of food available for breakfast is as good as will be found at any Mediterranean resort and there can be no justifiable complaint about the quality or range of food on offer for breakfast, or the service provided.
Without doubt, this is very well managed resort. The buildings and landscaping are impeccably maintained, and the staff employed at Vale d'Oliveiras ensure that the potential afforded by the designed facilities is maximised to the full. A little more attention to some minor points would make Vale d'Oliveiras a truly exceptional resort.

Just returned from a 10 night stay with the wife and kids from this great resort. I would have given this a rating of 5,but I feel there are some issues that need sorting. Overall, a really great place, not a 5 star but definately a really good 4 star.
Issues that need sorting.
1. Breakfast choice needs to be more extensive
2. Breakfast can be frustrating due to inefficient operation of the restaurant - please note that the staff work extermely hard but simply put there is not enough of them at peak periods.
3. The pool could be bigger
4. The restaurant at night is pretty empty and way to expensive. There needs to be a wider selction at a more affordable price, this may prevent people from leaving the complex and wandering to nearby places to eat/drink.
5. Not sure why the hotel charge for playing table tennis.

Apart from these issues, the place is fantastic set in lovely countyrside scenery. The staff are what make this place and I would like to Thank Nelson, Valter, Daniel, Carmen, Patricia, Jorge, Alvaro, Douglas and numerous others for making the trip highly enjoyable.
Use the shuttle bus when you can, it will save on taxis which are approx 8-13 euros into Carvoeiro.
The apartment is superb and clean, the beds were fine. Loads of untensils to use if you fancy a quite night in.
I recommend going to Prai Grande beach - what a place, some nice quite bars there to have total relaxing drink.

Overall, I have never really considered going back to a place but I would say I am seriously tempted to return at some point in the future.

We would agree that this is one of the top hotels in the area however it is almost not in the area with it being set high up in the hills near the golf resort. If you are happy to just stay in the hotel and have all meals there on a full board basis then this is the place for you. If you want to venture out then a car is definitely required! Thankfully we had a car and were able to have trips out to the surrounding area and do our shopping etc. The centre of Carvoeiro is not within walking distance although there is a small supermarket within walking distance. This being said, the quality of the hotel is fantastic. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was fully equipped and had everything we needed, especially with our little one! We ate in the restaurant in the hotel one night and although slight expensive, was excellent quality. Would recommend, but with reservations...

We stayed off season so quiet and very good value. The suite was really lovely spacious well equipped and clean. Had its own garden area which was great for the kids as well as for us to relax in. The service was excellent and friendly. Unfortunately the indoor pool is relatively small and they require all people to wear bathing hats so got stung for those at reception. Outdoor pool too cold at Easter and would have been much nicer. Food was OK in the hotel but also some very nice places to eat locally but you will need a car to do anything except golf around the hotel.
Really enjoyed the stay and would go back.

The one bedroomed townhouse was lovely and the pictures of the resort on Trip Advisor show how lovely it is here. The gardens are beautiful and staff were very helpful and friendly.

Having said that, you really do need a car (or taxi budget) as there are no shops or restaurants within the near vicinity, only country lanes, some of which are very narrow.

The resort can be very difficult to find as sat-nav doesn't recognise it, so you have to look for the "Vale D'Oliveiras" blue signs sited at many road junctions which point you in the right direction.

Room air-con is excellent and the kitchen very well equipped - we did buy large mugs and an ice cube tray, as they aren't on the list of equipment.

Mattresses are hard and pillows not very nice, but the Wi-Fi was brilliant in the room as it has its own router. A bedroom tv would have been nice but the one in the lounge gets around 11 English channels so that was nice.

A previous reviewer said that the on-site mini-market was cheaper than going elsewhere, but we didn't find this - a British newspaper marked at 2.2 euro by the printers had a sticker over it for 2.5 euro ?

If you want quiet, you certainly get it here. We asked about evening entertainment and reception seem to want you to buy either a barbecue ticket (28.5 euro) or a Portuguese buffet (28.5 euro) ticket to experience the poolside entertainment, but on the basis of previous reviews we declined to buy meals in the resort.

Some nights you could just about hear music in the bedroom, but we were well away from the pool bar, so it wasn't a problem.

If I had a suggestion, it would be to try to get guests to stay in and eat/drink here by offering better promotions than a single "Happy Hour" from 5-30pm to 6-30pm,

We would definitely consider returning, as the accommodation was so nice, but the management needs to do more to get people to eat and drink here.

If you just want to relax and get away from the noise of the "touristic Algarve" this is a very fine option. Really a 5 stars hotel.
Very nice suites with free Wifi and spacious rooms.
We enjoyed it all but the only fault was the room cleaning service, always too late and without any care to appeal to customers. It wasn't worthy of the rest of the hotel.

Room Tip: Ask the reception to anticipate the room cleaning service
