We had a wonderful time in the Algarve in this beautifully kept resort in September. The resort is a little remote and is not in Carvoeiro but a few miles inland in a very scenic area. This adds to its charm and there is plenty of wildlife on the resort as birds, such as hoopoes, are attracted to its well watered and carefully tended gardens. We had a two bedroom townhouse, which was in immaculate condition and exceptionally clean. The swimming pool was at an ideal temperature and not busy. The staff were always pleasant and helpful, so what are my reservations about this resort. As I didn't want to drink wine with my evening meal and then drive back to the resort, we used the restaurant on most evenings and again the staff were pleasant and helpful, the trouble was the lack of staff and the lack of someone to organise them. Service was erratic, on one evening we had to wait over an hour after being shown to our table before a waiter came near enough to take our order, the table next to us has been waiting even longer! The restaurant has two balconies and staff seem to concentrate on one and forget the other one. On another occasion no waiter appeared on our balcony for over half an hour and then like London buses three came at once. The food and wine were very good, it is just that the restaurant is badly understaffed and it urgently needs a maitre d' to organise them. The resort has recently changed owners and on the assumption that they will recognise their staffing problems, I would have no hesitation in recommending Vale D'Oliveiras to anyone who wants a high quality, peaceful and relaxing holiday.

We have recently returned from our first holiday to Portugal and chose to stay at the VDO due to it's quality and style...and we weren't disappointed. From the moment we arrived we really felt welcomed. The staff at the resort are so friendly and will help you with anything, suggest places and trips to go on and accommodate all your needs.

Rooms were spacious and modern. We had booked a double room and were lucky enough to get a balcony overlooking the grounds and health club. The rooms were really lovely and the hotel decor was spot on.

Breakfast was very good, they really did cater to all needs. Smoked salmon, cheese and meats, cereal, pastries, fresh fruit and full cooked English style breakfast. You would have to be extremely fussy to find something to complain about with breakfast. We only booked breakfast rate and didnt get the time to eat at The Olive Tree restaurant at the resort which was a shame but am sure the evening food would have been just as lovely.

The hotel isn't located in a town or beach area and so is very peaceful and relaxing. The pool area is just lovely and there was always plenty of chairs available. I would suggest going to the local beach Praia d Caneiros though as it is a beautiful beach and not too busy complete with a beach bar, restaurant and massages on the beach (very cheap and very good massages). The shuttle bus will take you to Caneiros beach twice a day. You can also get the shuttle bus to Carveiro town, Praia Grande and Ferragudo. You just have to let the staff know and they will book it in for you.

We were quite worried after reading reviews that we would need a car but decided against until we got there to see what he location was like. Although it isn't really within walking distance to most places it is so easy and cheap to get taxis to the neighboring towns. We even took a taxi to and from Alvor (beautiful little fishing village with lovely restaurants) which cost no more than €25. We didn't have to pay any more than €10 for any other taxi trips and you can walk into any bar or restaurant and they will be happy to book you a taxi. The taxi drivers are so helpful and understanding. Ask them anything you need to know about the area and they will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. I think we actually saved money by using taxis rather than to hire a car for the week.

All in all the VDO is a super hotel and resort with free use of the health club, jacuzzi and sauna. The spa is reasonably priced also, as are the drinks and snacks at the bar. We had a lovely stay here and I couldn't really find any fault, you would have to be very picky and ungrateful to not appreciate this hotel and beautiful country.

Would like to especially say a big thank you to Sonia who promptly and very calmly got our passports and documents back from the shuttle transfer where we had accidently left them upon arriving at the hotel.

We will definitely be back to Portugal and to the VDO :) Thank you for a lovely stay!

Room Tip: Rooms opposite the health club and with a balcony are lovely

Dear Guest,
thank you very much for your review.
We are pleased to know that you enjoyed our Resort and the Algarve very much.

Just a quick advise for your next stay: we have a free shuttle service available all year round. This free service can take you to Carvoeiro and Ferragudo downtown, and to the nearest beaches (Praia Grande and Caneiros).

We look forward to welcome again at Vale d´Oliveiras.

Kind regards,
Eduardo Peregrino

Me and my fiance spent a week at the resort and could not have had a more relaxing and enjoyable time. The reason for our stay here was that our very close friends were getting married at the resort - the first sizeable wedding the resort has had I understand. So we decided to make a holiday of it.

The attention to detail and level of service throughout our stay and during the wedding itself was outstanding. The resort strikes the perfect balance between luxury and relaxation.

Simply put - an outstanding place with exemplory service and great food. Thanks to all the staff for an amzing time, especially Nunu who greated us on arrival and Ricardo who managed the wedding.

Room Tip: Selfcatering is definately the way to go. The apartments are very spacious and luxurious and allow the flexibility to cook and entertain yourself whilst still having all the ammenities of hotel on your door step as well. Apartments are fully equipped and cleaned each day.

We recently returned from our friends' beautiful wedding at VDO. The day was spectacular in every way, from the beautiful setting with dramatic views around the valley, to the delicious food in the olive tree restaurant for the reception, to the accommodating and friendly staff at the resort.

The resort is definitely deserving of its 5 star status. The quality of accommodation is far superior to that I have stayed in elsewhere on the Iberian peninsula and Carvoeiro as a town has a lot to offer if you are looking for somewhere to go out and about for a few evenings of your holiday. A taxi into carvoveiro only costs 10 Euros each way.

Slide and splash watermark is nearby and well worth a visit. Villa Medici ( try the melted cheese and pepper starter!)and Tia ilda in carvoeiro are nice places to eat if you are looking to go off the resort for a night or two. That said, the food at VDO is beautiful and so if its a relaxed holiday you're after, you wouldn't need to leave the resort at all.

The swimming pools (both inside and out) are a great size. Dont miss out on the sauna and hot tub- located on the way to the indoor pool.

All in all a wonderful trip and we will definitely be back. Particular thanks to Eduardo the head chef and constantin for amazing
Fillet steaks at the wedding reception, Alvaro and Alexandre and the bar lady for brilliant fun at the reception and all holiday! Niño and Miguel also gave us some great tips as to where to eat! Try the local almond liqueur at the resort

We stayed here for ten nights september 2012 and we had a lovely stay. The townhouses are spacious and clean. Breakfest is very good. It is quite expensive to buy food or drinks at the hotel so you better go to the supermarket. You really need a car to make your holiday more 'free'. We try to go to Portugal every other year and this was our first time at vale d oliveras. If we go back to Portugal we Will come back!
