I stayed with my partner in a luxury one bed suite for 10 days from 10th October and was initially really impressed with the Monte Santo, so I'll start with the positives; good size suite with nice big bed, 2 bathrooms one with shower and bath and one with just shower, well equipped kitchen in terms of cooker, microwave, washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer and nice private balcony (we had room 9). The main outside pool was nice and there was no trouble finding sun loungers. Now for the less positive things, the elements for me which stopped it being 5*; there was no welcome pack or instruction information in the room on how to use the air con, washing machine and cooker etc, or even just info about calling reception etc - we managed to get instructions but only after going to ask at reception. Although the washing machine is great and comes with a tumble dryer I don't want to wreck all my clothes by tumbling them and there was no clothes maiden so we just had to let our clothes dry on chairs and sun loungers. For me it was the finishing touches that let the monte santo down. The location was ok but is a 15 minute walk to carvoreiro (v hard uphill on the way back).

We also are pleased to learn that our services and facilities were much appreciated and we are thankful for your kind words. Nevertheless please accept our apologies for the shortcoming experienced due instruction information on your accommodation, it´s our standard to have a manual in each accommodation but for some unknow reason was missing in ours. Your feedback regarding the clothe maiden, was very much appreciated and will share these with our team so that we can continue to improve.

We stayed 12 days in this resort with our 3 year old and 1 year old. It was amazing. We were upgraded on arrival, the pool area was superb, staff friendly and so helpful and the accommodation was tremendous.... it is actually better than the pictures! We didn't hire a car and walked to town and back (steep hill rubbish pavement) no probs with an out and about double buggy. Took 15 mins each way. The only drawback was the lack of a supermarket nearby but that did not spoil it for us. Our first holiday as a family of four and it was just perfect.

We stayed here as a family of 5. Booked a 2 bed apartment but got upgraded to a 3 bed townhouse. Very nice accommodation, spacious, nicely furnished but not 5 Star in my opinion as some signs of wear in places. Having said that all the staff we encountered provided a 5 star service. Only issue we had was on one day we phoned reception to say the kids would be an hour late for kids club and to check that was ok. We were told that would be no issue and they would let the childcare staff know, however when we turned up an hour late we were told they didn't get the message and that they couldn't take the kids as didn't have staff available, however this was eventually rectified after we complained that this wasn't acceptable, so they did what they could (eventually). Very quiet resort at this time of year. Pools were nice but cold, except the indoor pool although kids (4, 5 and 7) didn't seem to mind. Would be great if there was an outdoor heated pool as a shame to be inside when it's sunny! Didn't eat in the restaurant so can't comment on that, but kids thoroughly enjoyed the kids club (although not many kids in it, only ours one day and one other the following day). Kids club staff (Tanya and Deborah) were great and very professional, most importantly they kept the kids happy!

In summary, I would say it's a 4 star resort with 5 star service. We have stayed in Pine Cliffs previously which is a much more luxurious resort in my opinion (golf course, shop, private beach, heated outdoor pool, higher standard of accommodation and outdoor areas beautifully kept) BUT at the time of booking was 3 times the price. So 5 star rating from me based on value for money. Will no doubt be returning if we get a similar deal in future.

While full of great expectation on visiting Monte Santo - especially after reading the reviews previous - we can't but be anything but disappointed after our visit here.

The resort itself is beautiful, the majority of the staff are an absolute pleasure to deal with yet it doesn't quite roll out the carpet for it's guests as you would expect a 5 Star Resort to do, especially when weighing up the cost.

On arrival we were made to feel welcome and we were initially delighted with our apartment, yet we ended up finding it disappointing overall.

The apartment is spacious, which we expected anyway, however the sitting room furniture consisting of 2 stiff chairs and a small square couch which had limited comfort value was not of the quality expected in a 5 star resort. Maybe it was just our apartment but this would definitely need to be addressed, comfort should be a major priority!!!

In the kitchen we would have expected at least a couple dishwashing and washing machine tablets and some washing up liquid to tie us over until we made it to a shop. We had one huge pot and one tiny one to do our cooking in, no frying pan or oven glove. No chopping board and the selection of sharp cooking knives were different makes and all useless and not fit for purpose. I can understand having no salt, pepper, cooking oil etc but there should definitely be filters for the coffee machine! The fridge/freezer, cooker, toaster, kettle and coffee machine were all of good quality.

There is no clothes rack provided and when I asked at reception if they had one I was told they weren't permitted except in those apartments that were privately owned! So how our lovely neighbors (visiting from the UK) could dry their clothes outside on one while we had to use the ridiculously loud (and I mean LOUD) condenser dryer which took forever to dry anything anyway. Not great when you have little ones or want to sleep.

One great addition to the kitchen though was an information pack with easy to understand instructions for each of the different appliances! Great idea and very helpful considering the language barrier.

Wifi was ok.

The outdoor swimming pools are beautiful but the childrens pool is a joke. Ice cold with surrounding tiles not fit for purpose. Just too slippy. The indoor pool is heated and very nice. This was primarily families as the tiles here were non-slip and so much safer then the outside ones. The gym did its duty as well. The grounds are lovely and peaceful and there is a nice little playground and tennis court. We didn't avail of the kids club.

The bar itself is dull and the one take away we ordered from the restaurant was pretty awful. Pizza and spaghetti were horrible. The dining manager on our one experience with him was extremely rude, however the young men working in the bar are all very friendly.

The cleaning staff were lovely but unfortunately we seemed to be at the end of their run (around 4pm daily) so only had them in twice as their daily visit coincided with nap time for the little one.

The location is perfect if you have a car. We were fortunate to have one as the resort is definitely not walking distance to the nearest supermarket. The town is about a 15/20 minute walk and there are at least 4 daily shuttles that will bring you down. Taxi to and from town around the €5/6 mark which is great in fairness. Carvoeiro itself has some nice little restaurants and the resort is extremely close to Slide n' Splash, Zoo Marine and not too far from Lagos Zoo.

Overall our experience at Monte Santo didn't quite live up to what we were expecting. Borderline 4 star and certainly not 5 star. This was our 6th visit to the Algarve and first time to Monte Santo but unfortunately will not be returning to Carvoeio.

I have being going to Carvoeiro since i was a child. I decided to take my young family there for a week. We stayed in beautiful townhouse close to the stunning main pool but also the option of using our private pool located outside the townhouses. The staff are incredible in every way. they go above and beyond to make your stay special, it was my wife's birthday they baked her a cake at not extra cost and delivered to own house on the day. There is a lady there called Tanya who was brilliant with our young children. We cant wait to go back next year.

Room tip: The top balcony's to the left offer beautiful views of the ocean.
