“Great with young kids”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

We stayed for one week at the end of June 2013. We have 2 children ages 3 and 6 years and we stayed in one of the 2 bed apartments. The apartment was faultless, spacious, pristine and the best part was the daily maid service. On returning from the pool, the dishwasher would be emptied and the kitchen would look like new. Our kids loved the pool area, we were surrounded by like-minded families, although you never had the impression that the place was very busy. There is a kids club, although in the end our kids didn't really bother with it.
Every evening we got a taxi to Carvoeiro for about 5 euros. The restaurants are all very child friendly, although the food was pleasant mostly and certainly not impressive.
We didn't hire a car, and honestly we didn't feel like we needed one, although if you are staying longer we would recommend one. Note though that there is no supermarket within walking distance, so if you don't hire a car you will require a taxi, though they are cheap and reliable.
You definitely don't need to bring shampoo shower gel or a hair dryer as those supplied are excellent. I could have done with decent hand soap.
Also handy to bring if you have young children would be dry snacks such as Tuc or Rich tea, a travel mug for coffee (good percolator in the apartment), salt and pepper, 2 washing tablets to run a couple of washes, a cooler bag for drinks by the pool, teaspoons, sugar and plastic bowls/cups for young children.
However the restaurant on site is reasonably priced by Irish standards.
Overall we had a wonderful week here and would highly recommend it for families with young children. My only downside was the distance from the beach.

It is was pleasing to learn that you memory our full equipped, privileged and stylishly furnished Monte Santo Suites.

The distance from the beach permits us to maintain our reputation of a quiet and relaxing resort that is very much appreciated by our guests.

Once again, thank you for your wonderful comments.
We will be looking forward to welcome you back again very soon.

We stayed at the height of summer for a family holiday, 2 adults, 2children. We had an apartment in the main building which was very nice, clean and spacious. There was no welcome package in the room, not even a bottle of water so after a long journey and delay on our flight travelling with a 7 yr old and a 9 month old the first thing we had to do was go to the supermarket to buy basic provisions. There was no bed for our eldest child and we had to wait hours before that was delivered.
There was a buffet being held that night which is probably the worst buffet I've ever seen. The choice was less than basic and the quality was terrible. That's the first time I've ever left a buffet hungry, we didn't enjoy it in the least for which we told staff this and they allowed our 7 year old to eat for free. He didn't like the food either so not much of a consolation.
In general the food was like this for the remainder of the stay. We poked our heads in on another buffet night and the food was much of the same. One type of meat, one type of fish and you couldn't even tell which was which that's how bad it looked.
For our two weeks here we had one average breakfast which was the only day it was hot. There was no a la carte and the same food was served every single day. Eventually we stopped going and began having breakfast in our room and either making our own meals (not what we wanted to do on holiday) or going out to restaurants.
The lunchtime sandwiches were ok but who wants to eat sandwiches and chips everyday.
On the bright side the pool was very nice, both indoors and outdoors.
There were 2 hot tubs but only 1 was ever in use at any one time even though the resort was very busy. There were cabanas but you had to pay extra for those I think it was 50€ for the day. I never saw anybody using them as it is ridiculous to charge extra for this at a 5 star resort and the guests we spoke to agreed.
There was entertainment provided for the children, such as a water slide, again you had to pay extra for this. We had to pay extra for a cot, extra for a high chair and extra for anything else our baby required. I've stayed in many places in my time and having to pay extra for a cot is just plain ridiculous and money grabbing if you ask me.
The beaches are nice, there are smaller quiet ones or a rather large and busy beach depending on your preference. We had a bad experience trying to get back to the hotel from the beach where the staff at the hotel were extremely unhelpful and kept telling us to wait for the taxi as it would turn up when it was going on two hours. They lacked professionalism or common sense in this matter and we were very upset by this.
The town itself is full of many restaurants, you'll need to go here to avoid the awful food, there was also a bit of a street party which was nice.
To get about you will need to hire a car there are a lot of steep hills and the resort is in the middle of nowhere.
If your not bothered about food quality or good customer service, this is the place for you. Although not a terrible holiday I certainly wouldn't visit this hotel again.
5 star on the outside but 2 star food and 3 star service at best.

Just returned from a 4 night break at Monte Santo resort and had a wonderful time.
The resort was extremely quiet but we knew it would be due to low season.
We booked a one bedroom suite and the room was lovely and spacious with kitchen, dining area, lounge, bedroom, bathroom with bath and second bathroom with shower. It also had a large terrace with sun loungers and table/chairs.
The staff were lovely and had make special extras for us as I had informed them of our recent engagement!
They had happy hour which was great and we enjoyed several cocktails!
There was renovation work taking place in the restaurant but staff ensured that service was open as usual and created a mini restaurant in the bar area.
We ate in one night and the find was excellent.
We work in hotels ourselves and so have high expectations sometimes but we cannot fault this resort.
The only tiny issue was a very strong drainage smell in the public areas and sometimes in the room but we did not question this and it did not spoil our stay.
Thank you!

I spent five days in early August with the family. What surprised me the most is that although it had plenty of other guests, it never felt crowed. There was always space in the pools and chairs available to stretch with a drink in my hand! The fact that most of the resort is composed of isolated villas makes it very airy and quiet.
The staff is very friendly and the food excellent.
We stayed in a Villa, which included all the niceties of our house. The Villa looked brand new and it was immaculately clean.
Looking back to those days I brought with me the relaxation of just feeling well, while I knew the family was around just having fun.
Now that I’m searching for something for the New Year break, I’m getting nostalgic.

Just returned from 5 nights at Monte Santo (early Nov.). The weather was still warm (20s) although the pools were too cold to swim in, but the indoor heated pool was perfect and very quiet. We stayed in a semi-detached villa/townhouse, 2-bedrooms, 2 jacuzzi bathrooms upstairs and toilet downstairs, quality fittings and lots of space. The townhouses are quite closely located together (semi d) but the landscaping is very well done and adds to privacy, while the pools (5) are a little small, and in peak season I think would get very busy, but out of season we had the area to ourselves every day. Treatments in the spa are recommended and good value. On a b&b package, the breakfast was very good every morning, with friendly waiting staff; ate in the on site restaurant one night and it was good. The walk into town takes 15-20 mins, take a few shortcuts down steps rather than keeping to the road, though Im surprised other reviews don't mention a beach which is about 10-12 min walk (rather than the main beach in the town). Praia do Paraíso - follow the road down to the town from Monte Santo and on the right hand side, 2nd road right, follow the wooden sign for "beach" - though there are a number of steps down to this beach compared to the main town beach, it is beautiful and there is a restaurant bar at the top, open even out of season. We used the resort shuttle once, having walked down to the town centre. The "maintenance circuit" is a gravel road to the rear of the resort, and I used it for a jog once, but the outlying roads are just as good for a bit of road running and having a look about. We ate in a few restaurants in town (Ela and Ela - has a good name but not impressed with the quality or price); Tapas bar just on the beach (not just tapas - pastas, chicken, fish) is recommended; while our favorite was O Frango Maluco - 5 min walk from the gate of Monte Santo (Definitely visit this restaurant if staying in monte santo, see my separate review). I cant comment on the resort in the peak season, but for a spring or autumn break I'd happily recommend to family and friends.

Room Tip: All townhouses appear to have similar aspect, so choose any, and are away from main clubhouse, so li...
