Excellent old town charm plenty of shops and bars with entertainment would not hesitate to go back either early in the season or octoberish as the summer months has a tendency to be rather full with visitors.340 days out of 365 days of sunshine can't be bad.

The old town of Albufeira is a fascinating place. Lots of places to eat so the competition keeps the meals fairly cheap. Everyone is polite and pleasant and willing to help you. The streets are narrow and cobbley so don't wear heels. Its all very clean. Full of shops touristy and more expensive ones. A walk down from the top of the hill takes only afew minutes, but you can get the little train back up for a little over a euro. Met lots of English people there who ran restaurants so it was easy for them to explain the traditional dishes to us. Already booked to go back next year.

There are lots of shops and restaurants overlooking the beach there. Also there is a square with lots of activities going on which is surrounded by shops and restaurants and a circular walk that takes you through all the little stalls and eventually you come to the large tunnel that takes you back down to the beach where again there are more restaurants overlooking the beach...in general lots of things to do there and there is even a giant escalator that takes you up the really steep hill so that you can view the sea from a real height!

Although we found Albuferia on the whole to be something of 'a hole', the old town is definetley worth searching out. A nice atmosphere with some decent cafes that had a genuine portuguese flavour.

The old town isn't authentic Portugal anymore it's very tourist based. Loads of bars and shops that are ok but it's getting a little expensive
