Santa Eulalia Hotel Apartamento & Spa
Ranked #11 of 133 Specialty Lodging in Albufeira
Reviewed September 17, 2013

Stayed in Santa Eulalia Hotel & Spa from 1st to 15th Sept 2013. On first night we were dropped off at nearby Grand Real Santa Eulalia Hotel (booked in error). It is only about 500 meters from our hotel but now way could a couple in their 60s carry suitcases because of steep hill up.The taxi seemed to bring us half way around Albuifera to justify charging €6.50; no complaints about taxi costs though! Obviously you need to be careful when booking Santa Eulalia Hotel as there seems to be three of them - a third one across the road from Grand Real.

The hotel itself was perfect for us: plenty of activity, friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were quite adequate for two people and were very clean. Plenty of restaurants nearby. One of them is a Chinese just off the main strip street and they have this amusing Chinese guy almost banging his head off the ground while inviting you in. Unfortunately we didn't get to eat there but it seemed to be nice. Had to go to the Balti Indian Restaurant a few times as we had the best meals of the holiday up there followed by the Sizzling Stone. Others quite good also, e.g., Neto.

No extra charge for air-con or sunbeds. Bar staff are excellent.

Would go back there in a flash.

Everything about this hotel is great. The rooms are beautifully refurbished in a modern contemporary style, so nice in fact I didn't want to go out. Wi-fi is free, its not super fast broadband but what do you want for nothing. TV has ITV 1 & BBC1 so I could even get my soaps fix before I went out for the evening. Location is great, right near the strip and 40 minutes walk to the old town. If you haven't been to Albufeira before you should definitely visit the old town too its so different to the strip. Food and drinks are more expensive in the old town but its just a maze of streets filled with beautiful shops you could browse round forever compared with the tat they sell on the strip. I will definitely return to this hotel for its location, plus its clean, quiet, pool is nice too with plenty of sunbeds, you will not be disappointed!

We have just come back from 10 days at the St Eulalia Hotel ('the cheap one' as others put it!) It may not look as posh on the outside but it was the best holiday choice We have ever made! The staff - bar wise are Vidal, Paulo, Antonio and Marco - Paulo is the funniest guy you will ever meet and shouts 'SAY WHAT!' a lot, but he made our holiday for us, it was like being in a group of friends every night and he is the glue that holds it all together. The entertainment staff are equally as awesome, Sofia, Lidia, Sara, Salud, Tiago and Carlos, putting on shows and quizzes and just getting everyone at the hotel to get to know each other. You of course don't have to participate but the benefits far outweigh the initial reluctance! My husband ended up craving a certificate and won the archery int he end, lol. The apartments were really nice, very clean, very tidy and the pool view was a must, its a really nice view and lovely. There are plenty of sun loungers throughout the day but parasols are limited, so this is the other reason to get down early. Supermarket is 5 minutes walk, 2 beaches each with 10-20 mins walk away, one with so many steps I had to wheeze at he top lol! Its 10-15 minutes walk to 'The Strip' very busy, lots of food places and bars, but a bit bouncy and young for us (we are 33 and 42 lol) so we tended to eat then come back for the entertainment and chat with Paulo and the staff. It is a very quiet resort, lovely and relaxing and I never saw 1 cockroach or creepy crawly all 10 days, so I was very happy. Weather, food, apartments and staff were awesome and we would without question go back!

Room Tip: Get a pool view room - but you will need to pay extra for it don't expect upgrade at reception...

Hotel was excellent, really central location with lots of reasonable priced restaurants less than a five minute walk away. Pool was great with lots of sun beds and a nice grassy area to lie on if you don't like the tiled part around the pool. Staff were helpful and friendly, bar staff were great. Lots of good days out to be had, lots of water parks at reasonable prices (32 euros for a park ticket to slide and splash and transport to and from hotel). Hotel also not too far from the airport, only about a fifty minute drive (that's with dropping off other tourists too). Breakfast was very nice, self service with lots of choice. Local beach a ten minute walk away. Couldn't recommend more! :) Great holiday, we want to go back!

Just returned from a return visit to the Santa Eulalia Hotel & Spa, it used to be known as the Santa Eulalia beach club, but since my last visit they have made some nice changes to go with the new name.
I enjoyed my stay so much last time, that i promised myself a return visit, and wasn't disappointed. You can click onto my last review if you want which goes into more detail. Since my last visit, only a year ago, the hotel has now built a Spa, with massage treatment rooms, indoor pool, sauna, and Jacuzzi, and a downstairs resturant! Upgraded the rooms, changed all the rooms keys to the credit card type which you scan for entry, fresh paint all round, a lot of changes in a short time!
They also now have an in house entertainment team, with adult and kids activities daily, aqua gym, stretching, archery, cocktail games, a kids club and live entertainment every night. You can take part as much or as little as you like, thery,re not pushy, or too much, they are a lovely team who are there for you.
The resort is more or less the same, don't be put off that the hotel is on a main road, you are only a five minute walk to one of the best beaches in that area, a 10-15 minute walk to the 2nd best beach in that area, close enough for the supermarket and local restaurants, all in all it's location is perfect.
If you're young, and want a wild time, there's the 'strip' - a mile long stretch of open fronted bars and clubs blasting out the music way on in to the early hours, it's only a 15 min walk away, and thats where the people go to party. If that's not your thing, don't worry! you can't hear it from the hotel, or would even know it exsists unless you go there, and there's plenty of other places to go within walking distance.
A short walk to Pria Da Oura beach at night is beautiful, 15 mins easy walk. It's all lit up, lots of beach fronted restaurants, a square where you can have a drink and watch the free live dancers and entertainment or take a trip into old town.
Old town is only 5 euros in a taxi, or there's a tourist train which goes back and forth, it only has 4 stops, so you can't get lost! Old town is a must! Once you visit it for a night out, you will want to come back, where as the 'strip' is mainly an adults party venue, old town is for familys and adults alike. Lots of bars, restaurants, all on differn't levels, little gift shops, entertainment everywhere, just walk around it and soak it up.
If you get the chance, and if you like boats of course, take a trip on the 'Mara' catamaran, you can book it at reception. It's an all day trip, with a beach BBQ, swim stops, and if it's calm enough, it will take you into the caves on the way back. Well worth the money, beautiful day on the boat, you can take the dingy to the beach or jump off and swim there, great BBQ, and then relax on the way back. The best trip i done last year, and this year.
There's loads of other trips, aqua land, zoo marine, jeep safaris, water parks, shopping, historical, the list goes on... something for everyone, young, old, kids, hen/stag nights, friends, romance, you name it, you will find it here, and this hotel will cater for it all.
One thing to add, and this is new, on booking in, the reception will ask for credit card details, don't be alarmed. They have spent a lot of money on the rooms and on the hotel in general, and it's just a way of saying "if you wreck it" we have your details, but if you're just there to enjoy yourself and treat it with respect, as most people do, you have nothing to worry about.
Oh, and watch out for the pedestrain crossings!! i mentioned it last time and will again. Don't expect the traffic to stop! if you do, you might be in for a shock! Some drivers will stop and let you cross, but not everybody!
Enjoy and have a great time, would i go back a 3rd time...... hell yes! :)

Room Tip: Only 4 floors, pool view is always good.

Hotel is near to the beach but you have to get there early as the beach is small with very little parking. Stayed self catering. Shops were nearby but hired a car and drove out to Lidl. The pool area is too small for the amount of people staying at the hotel. Sunbeds and parasols went early even though they supposedly operate a 'no reserving' policy, it doesn't work. 5 or 6 mins walk to the main bar street and restaurants but far enough away that you don't hear it at night. Apartment plenty big enough with basic kitchen facilities. Cleaned daily and towels swapped a couple of times a week.

Room Tip: We had a room around the back away from the pool and main road, very quiet at night.
