No way!!! But still a very enjoyable although overpriced holiday.A lot of things have been said about this place and their aggressive charging policy as really nothing is included but most of the reviewer have missed the main point. In fact if you book in the Residences that is the most expensive section of the resort you then share the facilities that have been created for this part of the resort with all the other guests who have paid a lot less than you had. Good experiment of social mobility but not if you are the one who paid the most to have a bit of exclusivity.
Other minor blips..... The Residences pool well stuffed with inflatable toys users and would be beach volley players and the fact that on the beach, that once there you will discover is open to the public, the sun loungers are so close to each other that you can barely move.
Don't spend over the odds to go there and as I said you will have a very enjoyable holiday.

This review is for the "Residences" section of the resort (do your research with care as there are different accommodation options in Pine Cliffs although all of them have equal access to the facilities) Having read recent reviews I'd say they give a very balanced and accurate impression of the Residences and the resort as a whole and so I won't repeat here what has been said by others about pools, beach, restaurants etc as I agree with most of it. Overall the facilities are excellent and the service similarly good & notably friendly and natural. The resort is large so you have good options for pools, recreation and dining. Although, like others, I found the dining slightly hum-drum for an adventurous foodie, the nightly buffet in the main hotel restaurant made things very easy for my family and the fact that the standard kids menu is available in all but 2 of the restaurants is handy too.
The acid test is, of course, the "will I return" question. Answer - yes, definitely, but possibly for less than 14 nights next time as "resort fever" set in for my wife and I agter about 8/9 days and this part of the Algarve is not over endowed with other attractions once the beach and pool have become old hat. Villamoura is good for a couple of outings but Albufeira is almost completely without charm or interest.

As noted by earlier reviews the one exception to the high level of service is at the Residences reception where at least half of them lack the natural charm of other staff and 80% of the time they give the impression that they are highly pressured and/or under-equipped to meet your needs or answer your questions.

Room Tip: Block S4 is the nearest to the Residences pool. We were in Block S7 and would choose there again as...

Just back from 11 nights at Pine Cliffs Residences with family (children 7 and 5). The residences' apartments are nice and spacious. However, you are a good walk away from the beach/kids club etc. and we found that the train was rarely to its timetable so we did a lot of walking but you get used to it. The only problem with having the best pool (in our opinion) on the complex is that it seems like lots of guests from the hotel and part-owned apartments come down to use this pool so it gets crowded. And there was a lot of reserving sunbeds with towels which was a bit annoying. O Grill restaurant and the beach restaurant were lovely and the staff were great. Corda Cafe we found a bit average. Porta Pirata kids club was good and the twice weekly movies for kids is great. Maid service was every day and they did a good job. The separate Residences gym and shop were handy to have nearby. A few niggles - the separate Residences reception/concierge is a good idea but we found the reception staff always seemed a bit flustered and referred us to the main hotel concierge when we had any questions. Room service was always ringing out and we were told they were very busy and would call back - they did but it took a long time to get food delivered. Plus charging 5 Euros for a bottle of water upon arrival in the room is just a bad idea - it gives the wrong impression of the place. But we did have a lovely holiday and the reason for mentioning all the niggles above is that it is very expensive to stay at the Residences and for the price we paid I would have expected a little bit better in some areas.

Just back from a week with family (kids 6, 4 and 2) - note that Pine Cliffs is a large self-contained resort in which the Residences are the self-catering appartments (with their own check-in area on the right of the resort) and the Sherton is the large hotel on the left of the compound - very good holiday and hits its target market perfectly - luxury family beach/pool holiday.

Pluses

1. Quality of the new Residences (these are the 'S' blocks on the right of the resort) is very very high - beautifully furnished and decorated with large balconies. I have been told that the older ones are more tired but still good.

2. The resort is immaculate (I cannot overstate this) and beautifully maintained with lovely internal pathways that offer reasonable shade from the sun - it is actually not as big as it looks on Google Earth - a buggy is helpful however with small kids. You can walk to the beach lift in about 12-14 mins from the Residence check in area. The pictures on the website give the impression that you are at the edge of a major golf course (i.e. bit barren or remote) however the golf course is quite small and the Residences are a lot more 'intimately' constructed than implied.

3. Good range of pools (some heated and some not) sprinkled throughout the complex - the access to the main beach is easy and the route quite spectacular (open lift and then a boardwalk through a ravine that is lit in the evening) - while the beach is public (Portugese law), it is not that crowded and there is plenty of room on it (compared to major Portugese public beaches)

4. Plently of dining opions on the resort and the Beach Restaurant is well worth a visit - it not that packed and stays open late at night with an athmospheric lit boardwalk back from it.

Minuses

1. The one little supermarket that covers the Residences (in the Residences check-in building) is extremely expensive. There is a good supermarket 15 mins walk away at the gate of the resort that is about 50-80% cheaper (yes the on resort market is that crazily expensive).

2. The dining is also quite expensive and quite bland (for the prices you are paying the food is fine but not memorable) - there is a very good local restaurant called 'Pinhal' at the gate of the resort which does very good local sea food for a fraction of the price (i.e. much better + much cheaper). We dined there a lot - service is slow but they get there and are very friendly.

3. You are on a 'compound' for the holiday - there is no 'old town' to wander into at night (or Villamoura-type bustling marina) - this may get to some people who want a more 'cultural' feel (i.e you could be in Florida or other equivalent place while on the resort).

4. The golf course is only nine hole and outside of the spectacular cliff top hotels is not that challenging for an adventurous golfer - the pools are also quite straightforward with no slides etc for more adventurous kids

5. The resort were meant to finish another pool/restaurant area at the end of the Residences (i.e. you can see the flat plot at the end before the cliff) but hit harder times. This makes the Residence area busier (although not too bad) but also means that the later 'S' blocks (i.e. S11) are quite far from anything (i.e ideal to be in S4 or S5 area)

6. The check-out time is 10am which is ruthlessl enforced (i.e the cleaners buzzed our house at 9am to monitor progress) - after paying (and experiencing) 5-star product, the 10am check-out is like a 'cold shower' as you are marched out back to the real world (the Hotel does 12pm check-out).

7. Thee are free wi-fi areas but no general resort free wi-fi - this is a bit 'down market' for such a resort - gives the feeling that they are trying to pick your pocket (not classy)

Room Tip: Try and get into the 'S' blocks that are close to the Residence Check-In (i.e. S3, S4 and S5...

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Pine Cliffs Residences. We were in S11 block which is one of the furthest away from the hotel, but for us - two adults and two thirteen year olds, it wasn't a big problem. In fact it was very peaceful around there.
The hotel 'train' runs every half an hour and in 30 degrees heat, we were thankful for it, although my husband reckoned it rattled his fillings out, it was so bumpy!
The Sheraton Hotel and Residences site is big, but very well kept. We didn't see anything out of place. Our two bedroom- two bathroom suite was perfect. Nicely furnished, a good size and spotlessly clean.
The Residences pool is the nicest, in our opinion and breakfast, taken right beside the pool, was good.
There are just a couple of things to point out. We had to go to the hotel doctor one morning, our daughter's friend had a poorly eye. We got very good service, but I was probably a bit naive and didn't expect a €45 charge on my bill at checkout.
The only other niggle was waiting times for taxis - around 40 minutes one time. Seems like we should have pre-ordered them, but even so, that's a long time.
That aside, we had a lovely, relaxing holiday and definitely would like to return to Pine Cliffs again soon.

Avoid the Gala evening (start of August each year) or just avoid altogether....

We for some reason booked to stay for 2 weeks here at a cost similar to 2 weeks 5* in the Maldives or Mauritius. We stayed 2 weeks at Easter at the 4 seasons Mauritius and this somehow worked out more expensive than this and more than last years 2 weeks in the Maldives so we were expecting good things (it was also nearly double the price we paid last year for a detached Villa with Pool at Martinhal in Sagres – ok but too windy). We stayed in a 3 bed residence (S6) which is a ground floor apartment with flats on either side and 2 levels above - the flat above was very noisy and we could frequently here furniture being pushed about through the night... not sure what was going on up there?

The beach is about a 20 minute walk away, which is too far for small kids although there is a train (sauna on wheels), which takes you half the way, but still 10 minutes half of which down long steps.

As the previous review mentions the pools do get busy but we always managed to find a small spot somewhere... until the last week….

We booked with Scott Dunn and received a letter 3 weeks before we left informing us there was a Gala on the last night we were there (Friday) and that the residence pool would be closed the day before (Scott Dunn was only told by the hotel a couple of weeks before that)... what actually happened was on the Tuesday there was constant banging as they spent a few days erecting a giant stage next to the pool, then closed it for the Thursday and Friday completely making it impossible to get near a pool. After getting fed up with constant hammering on the Tuesday we ended up just leaving the resort for the last 3 days completely and heading down to Vale do Lobo or Zoo Marine to escape. Then booming music 100m from our apartment until 12.30 the night before the kids get up at 6.30 to fly home … great. The fact we were paying such high nightly rates for the room and were not informed of the Gala was completely unacceptable. We complained and asked for money to be refunded for the last two nights and were basically ignored. We spoke to Joao in guest relations who even took our mobile number and then didn’t even bother to call us back. Last 4 days of the holiday would have been ruined if we hadn’t have left the resort completely. We thought of going home early but it would have been another 1k to change the flights as we’d done the online check in before we left UK.

Scott Dunn kids club was good although we didn’t use it all that much ... last 4 days etc. Great trips out to water parks etc for the older kids though.

Nice short 9 hole golf course although they still charge 43 euros for 9 holes even to guests.

They charge for annoying things like water in room E5 or internet in room.

Shower in bedroom completely flooded the room every time we used it, reported it several times but again no response.

Even a call to remove some cat poo from the lawn outside our villa took 3 days and 4 phone calls….

At this price level there are so many better resorts and Pine Cliffs just doesn’t even come close to the standard expected. Attitude of the staff was pretty much tough luck there’s a Gala on.

it may be expensive but you get what you apy for. we have been here 4 times and each time it excells. any problems however small are dealt with extremely well and the staff are lovely. the sunset from the clifftop bar is fantastic.

the residences are a pure home from home with lovely surroundings and daily maid service, they have allof the items required for a homely stay and ground floor access to the gardens is worth taking. the only issue i have is the daily cost for internet access which seems excessive for something that many consider an everyday neccessity in present times.

the beds have to be the most comfortable i have ever tried and the buffet breakfast is lovely.

Room Tip: garden access near to one of the pools if your with children is worth trying to get
