We stayed at The Velamar for 10 nights and overall were extremely impressed. The reception and bar areas are immaculate, modern and comfortable. The poolside is of a good standard - clean, spacious, with plenty of sun beds. The pool is very clean, however is not heated which put me off - even my boyfriend didn't go in much because it was so cold! There is a small poolside cafe open during the daytime which offers simple snacks which are reasonably priced (however try Soft Cafe next door for fantastic food and lots of choice).

We absolutely loved the breakfasts at the Velamar Hotel. It is continental buffet style however there is loads of choice and always as much as you can eat! We were impressed by the restaurant staff who were very efficient and continually replenished the food (and even stopped people pushing in when there was a queue...although that was rare anyway). The restaurant is beautiful, situated on the top floor with fantastic views of the sea.

Now for the rooms.... Unfortunately the bedrooms are the only thing that let this hotel down. They are shabby and dated, however you can't really complain for the price. Although the white bed sheets were clean, the quilt laid on top was stained as were the pillows which we found stuffed in the wardrobe and which I strongly suspect had not been changed since the last guests! By day 6 our bed sheets had still not been changed (although maids tend to the rooms every day) and so we had to visit reception to ask. To give them credit the sheets were promptly changed after our request. The bathrooms are far more modern and are very clean.

The staff are very good, efficient and professional and the good service continued after we left. Unfortunately on arrival home I realised I had left a sentimental item at the hotel. I emailed them to ask if they could try to find it and send it back to me in the UK. I offered to pay postage. They found the item and posted it immediately on receipt of the email, with no request for payment. I was very impressed with this service (their email correspondence was a little vague however the main thing is that I got it back).

Finally, I can not recommend Olhos D'Agua highly enough - as long as you're looking for a quiet holiday with nice restaurants and low key bars. The village is beautiful with cobbled streets and is immaculate (not like a lot of dingy, smelly holiday resorts in Spain and Greece). The village 'centre' is set at the bottom of a hill next to the beach - beautiful day and night. Also make sure you make time for a few visits to Vilamoura which is stunning with lots of restaurants, bars and shops set round a marina!

We had a fantastic holiday and would strongly recommend the Velamar as long as you're not planning on spending much time in the room!

After reading tripadvisor reviews my husband and I chose to spend our 30th wedding anniversary at the Velamar, we have no complaints at all !! Our room was a good size, comfortable and spotlessly clean, as was the bathroom. We had a nice balcony and great air-conditioning. The housekeeping was excellent throughout our stay, the entire hotel is spotless. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, the best selection of fruit I've ever had in a hotel :-) The pool was very clean and plenty big to cool down in and there were always ample sun-loungers. The snack-bar was very handy and we had lunch several times, the prices are very reasonable both here and in the bar. The location was perfect, far enough from Albufeira to be quiet and peaceful but easy to get to if you fancied a bit more hustle and bustle. All of the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. A great stay and we have no hesitation in recommending the Velamar.

We just got back from a week in the cleanest hotel ever we stayed in. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was very big and the cleaners came in every day and changed the towels. It was so peaceful and the weather was fantastic. Drinks and snacks are inexpensive at this hotel. There are 5 or 6 nice restaurants next to the hotel so you are spoiled for choice - 4 course including large drinks 7.50,9.50, 10.00 and 12.00 depending on where you went. Our favourite was 3 Marias - the Adega De Ze was also very nice. There is nice small fishing village about 20 mins walk away with lovely seaside. Don't hesitate, just go and enjoy yourself.

Room Tip: We had pool view and were not directly underneath the breakfast room so all good. Maybe the rooms o...

My wife and I stayed at the Velamar from the 16th sept for 2 weeks this year. What a brilliant hotel. Close to shops and restaurants and only a 5 minute walk to the amazing beach. The staff at this Hotel are so friendly and the hotel is clean and very inviting. Met some new friends during our stay and we will be returning here next year and many years to come .

Room Tip: ask for a balcony room when booking

Started visiting Velamar 3 years ago , its a fab place .
Its not a huge hotel but it isn't small either.
The rooms are well equipt and a good size.
The breakfast as reported is very good .
We keep telling them they should also do dinners , the view from the restaurant which is at the top of the hotel is fantastic.
We tend to just relax while we are there so the pool and the lovely Maria Luísa beach across the way is perfect for us to unwind.
A few eating places in the imediate area and a bar or two is enough for us . But if You want it livlier A!bufeira is just down the road and its a party place or olhos do agua is the other direction its a fishing village with restaurants bars an shops and beaches.
Getting there is ok too as we have a good few airports around us that have low cost flights to faro .
Transfers are the best option to the hotel first year we used airport taxi was 56 euro . Other clients at the hotel told is to use yelloww fishtransfer so we booked the way back with them and was only 30 euro . We use them all the time now 60 return and they meet you in the airport with free wifi on the cars, great service.
sunbeds can be prices everyday so an idea is take your towels and buy a brolly or 6 euro . 2 beds an brolly are 15 euro , everyday that adds up !
Great places. I highly recommend it ..

This is a lovely friendly hotel in a great location. Albufeira is really a misnomer. its on the outskirts of Olhos D'Agua/Torre de Medronheira, so Albufeira centre is about 15 mins by taxi.
Our third time here, and an inexpensive taxi transfer from Faro airport (around 30 minutes)
The hotel has a lovely little pool and separate kiddies pool. There are always enough sunbeds to go round.
Since we were last here there is a new snack bar with a direct access door at the poolside, serving toasted baguettes, pizza , sangria, beers etc. We had a couple of snack lunches (pure greed) and they were very good and inexpensive.
We can't understand any criticism of the surrounding area and facilities.
There are a plethora of restaurants and several within 6/7 minutes walk are particularly good. Fresh fish and barbecued meats and shellfish abound.
This is high quality catering at prices to make a UK takeaway blush, with three course menus with a glass of wine at 10/12 euros, and dish of the day specials at half that.
The most difficult decision as you reach the bottom of the hotel steps is "turn left or right?
In particular café do Mare, Three Marias and Soft Café are on the doorstep and superb value for money.Jollies is more formal but quite good if traditional roasts etc are your thing.
For a special treat O Duarte is about 7/8 minutes gentle stroll is out of this world, especially for king prawn kebabs.
Its a five minute stroll to a local pub (Holidays) which is British owned and a great venue for a drink with friends. It serves basic but good quality food at very reasonable prices. Go early on a Tuesday, its a special curry night and sells out very quickly. Nothing reheated from a packet here!
Another local bar The Black Cat plays mostly jazz music and has a lovely atmosphere to complement its rather eccentric owner. Good for later on in the evening as a chill out with gentle music and enormous Portuguese brandies!
The best Indian food in Portugal is in O Licorne, (around 10 minutes walk from the hotel, down the steps and turn left!)
The hotel is always immaculate, with a top floor restaurant serving a high quality continental breakfast of breads, meats , cheeses, fresh fruit salads and yoghurts.
There is a lovely little hotel bar , friendly and intimate without any yahoos present, and they serve beautiful cocktails as well as the normal draught beers etc. Prices are about half the uk norm with measures around three times the size!
Reception staff, particularly Christina, are unfailingly polite and helpful, and speak excellent English. We can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room, they overlook the pool. If you're staying more than a week book a renta...

Stayed here for 5 nights in September (as part of an 11 night trip to Albufeira area). The hotel was very clean and the staff were the most accommodating that I have ever met on holidays. On my first night I went to reception looking for an extension lead (medical issue) and the receptionist got one for me without any fuss. This type of service continued for the rest of our stay and it was a delight to receive such attention. The breakfast was ok,(maybe a warm addition occasionally would be nice). the bar prices were very reasonable, and again the bar staff were great. If you're looking for a quiet ,relaxing, away- from- it all type holiday then this is a perfect hotel to visit. I found the overall area of Olhos de Agua to be too remote and quiet for me." If this hotel could be placed nearer to Albufeira centre I'm sure it would be No'1 in the list" Albufeira is taxi ride away and costs approx 7euros. I don't think that I'll return to Velamar due to the distance from Albufeira (old town, which I like a lot), but as I stated previously it would be a great location for those who want just peace and quiet." Nicest meal we had was in "Restaurant Cabrita".
