Had a post wedding BBQ for my friend who got married yesterday 4/10/13 in Grand Real. Lovely complex. Had BBQ in the club house. Lovely food. Cold salads hot BBQ foot and fresh roast on the BBQ. The roast beef was amazing. Think I had 3 servings. Wanted more but couldn't handle it. Amazing desert spread. Lovely fresh fruit. And cake and mouses.

My only negative would be the staff who didn't seem to be that friendly or enthusiastic about being there. Such a shame but food was sublime

Stayed here for 3 days for a family wedding. Probably would not normally have picked this but it was recommended and was close to the wedding hotel and we got a good deal online. Because we were flying in to Faro, I phoned beforehand to arrange an airport pick up. This was confirmed within minutes by email and on the day went smoothly with our courteous and efficient driver making sure we got to our allocated apartment. Although a bit out of the way (we did ask for a quiet room), the apartment far exceeded our expectations having everything we needed and more (including washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher). It would be great for a longer stay but because of commitments we didn't see too much of the room.
After all this positivity just a few quibbles. They don't appear to designate non-smoking apartments and non-smokers like ourselves are very sensitive to a smoker being a previous occupant. We also had a problem with an ant infestation the first morning but this was quickly dealt with by the housekeeping staff.
All in all a very good experience but if returning I would try to get an apartment closer to the restaurant and supermarket as long as the smoking issue is tackled.

This was our second time staying at Balaia Golf Village . Staff were friendly and helpful even giving us a lift into town on occasion . Apartments spacious, clean and comfortable with all you need if self catering. We stayed ten nights and it was fabulously relaxing we had three balconies to our first floor apartment complete with sun loungers if we wanted to relax at the apartment and it was a short walk to the nearest swimming pool of which there were six. It is situated approx ten minutes from the Strip which suited us well as we were there to relax and enjoy the fabulous weather. Overall a fabulously relaxing place, well kept, clean ,secure and quiet ,cair wait to return

Room Tip: A two bedroom ground floor apartment with pool view is equipped like a villa, excellent.

I wouldn't recommend this resort for families unless you had a car but even then it has big question marks. The grounds are kept nice but there is so much grass and hedging etc. to cut that the peace is ruined by lawnmowers, tractors, strimmers and hedge trimmers going all day which doesn't help when you have a baby who needs to have a nap during the day.

The food options are limited and the quality if food very poor along with the service. Some of the reception staff couldn't have been more UNHELPFUL.

I wouldn't return.

First visit to Balaia Golf Village and would return. Not entirely sure why there are negative reviews on here, however judging from them it seems that all the apartments are privately owned and let out to Balaia - this would explain the inconsistency with the interiors.

Our apartment was 222 and had a newly fitted and modern kitchen & bathroom. The apartment itself was very clean, air conditioned and had everything needed. My only gripe was the seating around the TV wasn't the best and could have done with a TV in the bedroom - not a major issue anyway as you don't go on holiday to watch TV! The beds were a little uncomfortable if I'm honest, we ended up putting a spare duvet under the sheets to soften it up a little. They also have daily maid service.

The grounds are very well kept and the 6 pools are clean. Be warned though, they do go extremely deep (almost 3 meters in places)

The golf course was a 9 hole par 3 which is a bit deceiving and a lot harder than it looks. The golf pro mentioned that the average 9 hole round is about 40-45, even though the course is a par 27! It's a little pricey, however when we visited, it cost €50 for club hire, shoes and either 9 hole or 18 hole - 18 holes must be played on the same day but you could do 9 in the morning and 9 in the afternoon if you wanted.

Reception staff are very helpful and will book you taxis, attractions etc. My only comment would be that their time judgement isn't the best. We were told its a brisk 20 minute stroll into Albufeira, however its probably closer to 30 - 40.

If you walk left out of the resort, there is the on-site supermarket. It's not the best and is a little pricey. If you continue walking down the road for about 15 - 20 minutes, you'll get to a proper supermarket which is much better.

Taxis are about €8 each way to Albufeira. If you're with a group of 5, then I would recommend giving a lady called Ana a call who will come in a minibus - costs are about €10 to Albufeira and €30 to Villamoura.

A car isn't necessary, however if you like exploring the area, it would be recommended.
Overall, a great resort and would definitely return.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms have more light in them. Closer to front of complex is better.

We stayed here for 7 nights in apartment 750 opposite the clubhouse and driving range. There where 5 a adults and a toddler.
The room itself we found very spacious, we had 2 double rooms one with an ensuite. Then you had a double and single sofa bed if you wanted to use them. The room was spotless and all the rooms facilities where fine, even had a washing machine and tumble dryer (which came in
handy for wet towels)
I'm surprised at ready some of the latest reviews that peoples room where so bad, but I can only speak for our which was very nice and had more than we expected.

The grounds are lovely and very well maintained, everyday the groundsmen where out and would always say hello. The pools where nice sunbeds always available. There was a few ants by the pool so I'm not sure if the floors where mopped every morning and evening if this would have helped. But the pools where open all day until it got dark so an early evening swim was nice.

We made the most of the free shuttle into the old town it left at 10 am returning at 6pm. It did seem a little unorganised with a free for all as to who would get on first and not have to wait for the second trip but you can't complain as it was free. The beach in the old town was lovely, and there's plenty of nice places to eat.

We also went to the beach about a ten min walk from the apartment ( when I say ten mins it is but down a steep path which is fine coming down but going back up with a pushchair may have taken us 15) but it was worth it, beach is lovely and sandy and the sunset was amazing. There is a restaurant down there I can't remember the name but it's the only one! It was yummy, nice food at a good price. All of the staff where lovely,

Over all we had a nice stay, staff where friendly enough. Room was clean and had everything we needed, location is a bit for out but taxis aren't a problem. Grounds and pool where lovely. We would defiantly return, and would happily recommend to anyone wanting a self catering holiday,

I was very enthusiastic about having booked an apartment here, and having driven past this place dozens of times in the 25 years I have been going to Portugal, I decided to try it, as it had alawys looked good.

I have to agree with other reviewers who have said that the good reviews were probably written by the people who own aprtments here, as from the start, things did not go well.

I booked through Booking.com who asked if we had any special requirements, and we advsied them that as we were a couple in our late 60's, we would like a quiet location, but close to amenities.

We arrived at around 11.00.am. to register, and was told the apartment was not ready, we asked how long, and we agreed with the receptionist about a hour. Not a problem, we would go a sit by the pool and get a drink and a bite to eat. When we got to the restaurant it was closed because they were preparing for a wedding reception. So we jumped back in the car and a few miles to a little Portugese cafe we know, and met up with the owners, people we have known for the period we have been visiting Portugal.

We returned to the resort at around 2.00.pm., and I drove to the location of the apartment, whilst my wife wlaked to reception top collect the keys. I then found that we had been placed on the top floor of a block, over looking the main road - which believe me is NOT aquiet location. However, I started taking our luggage up the 40 odd stairs and was half through doing this, when my wife returned to say we could not have the keys till 4.00.pm. because it wasn't ready, having agreed with us that it would be ready after about a hour. BUT we knew its was because the cleaners had told us they had finished it a couple of hours earlier.

My wife does not like confrontation, so talked me out of going back to the reception, so I carried the luggage back down the stairs to the car, locked it, and we went and sat by one of the swimming pools for the next two hours.

Having got the keys and climbed the stairs again, we found out just how noisey it could be with the traffic outside, but was determined to make the best of a bad job.

The apartment was excellent, everything we could ask for, BUT we then started to find things that were not so good. Bathroom door would not stay shut and rattled all through the night if attempts were made to keep it closed. Air com unit was outside bedroom window and made too much noise to be kept on at night. Shutters on balcony doors that either did not open or shut properly.

Worse was to come, when we found that the floor was more comfortable to sleep on than the beds, the worst I have every experienced. Then we discovered that there was a FOR SALE sign hanging off our balcony, and wondered whether we might be subjected to visits from prospective buyers.

We will not be returning to this location again !!!

Room Tip: Make sure of your location in this complex, and that everything is in good order. Without doubt this...
