I won,t go over every point, as all have been well documented. This hotel is in no way a 4*. It has a lot going for it. Firstly i found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. The cleaning staff were in every day and changed towels, beds were changed a couple of times, during our 10 day stay.
The room was large with plenty of space for storage. Our balcony was huge and had one of the best views i have ever had.Plenty of sunbeds ,space in pool, due to the fact that there are not a lot of people there now. We were told there were 700 people there the previous week.
It cost 46 euro for the safety deposit box, however 25euro is a deposit and as long as you don,t lose your key you will get it back. There is free air con. Allright some people were not happy with theirs, but hey it is free and ours was fine. Also there is a courtesy bus to take you to the old town or the beach and take you back, several times a day.
We were halfboard and allthough breakfast was ok, dinner was a completely different matter. The first nights dinners main meal choices were...rice, chips, fish , chicken, or brussel sprouts, this was in the heated section. There were the usual salad items. 1 soup and a handful of sweets. There was fish every night and 1 other choice. Needless to say we ate out a few times. While the food was ok, i have never been to any hotel 3 or 4 * with such a poor choice of meals. I did ask the first night if this was a normal menu, or was there some other reason for this and was told this is normal. Had i known this i would have went b&b as there is plenty of restaurants in the area. we were given an a la carte menu one night. It had 3 mains on it and the young man waiting on us also offered a few other choices the chef could make for us. This was our last night. As there only seemed to be 5 or 6 other couples halfboard, surely there could have been more of a selection.
I was a bit worried about the hotel before i went, as i had read some of the negative reviews. Regarding decor furniture etc; I went with an open mind, decided as long as it was clean and secure i would enjoy it as the hotel is only a base. It was tired and carpets were faded. Furniture needs upgraded. However it wasn,t cheap and for a 4* the dining experience was very disappointing. This hotel really needs to fulfill it,s potential and return to it,s glory days!

Room Tip: We were in 730 and had a great view overlooking the pool, but the furniture needs upgrading

We have just come back after staying at the Hotel Montechoro for our third time and yet again had a great relaxing holiday. Some of the people who have wrote and condemed this hotel need to get a life because all they seem to do is whinge and moan from the moment that set foot into the reception Area.At the end of their holiday they must be that stressed out from all the moaning that they must be ready for the next holiday when they go back to work!!!
If you go on hoiday relax and enjoy. The hotel does need updating but everywere was clean. The staff were very pleasant,The english breakfast was the same as what you get at most hotels. The rooms are massive and are cleaned every day.The Air Conditioning worked.Towels changed every day an bed linen changed twice a week. What more do people want.
We payed extra for a high floor with pool view which we were given and the view over the town of Albuferia is second to none.As for some peple who come on here and complain about the noise from Erin's bar don't be so tight and pay for a pool view-you get no noise then!
The pool is well looked after and there was never any problem's getting a sun bed.
All in all we had a great 12 night's and I for one was very relaxed when I went back to work!

Room Tip: Pay for a Pool View with High Floor The view is magnificent

We stayed here Sept 2013 for 10 days on BB basis. The hotel is dated would say 3*. Do not book half board there are 100s of good restarants especially in the old town. A good walk to the beach down the strip. Breakfast was adequate but repetative. Lots of sunbeds as hotel was only 30% full choice of sunbeds, would not like to be there if it was full, pool too small. Hotel would have been brilliant in the 80s. Large Irish bar across the road, which played music all day. Was noisy at night. We were on the 9th floor amazing views. Rooms with odd numbers the best they would not get the noise from the Irish bar. Reception staff very helpful. Did not stop in thehotel much so cannot comment on drink. We did enjoy our holiday. You do get what you pay for. Hotel is clean.
If you need any more information please contact me.

Room Tip: High floor in odd numbered room

We stayed here for 10 days and had a great time! The hotel is in a great location away from the strip and close to lots of nice restaurants. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff, we asked for a pool view and were given this no problem. The view was one of the best views I've seen from hotel balcony- view of the town and a distant sea view. Rooms are huge with big balconies. We asked for a fridge in our room- this made a big difference to our stay, would recommend asking for a fridge. We bought lots of water and some wine etc so we could have drinks in our room/on the balcony without paying hotel prices. The hotel itself is dated but you can see how it would have been a fantastic hotel when first opened.
It has a lot of potential with the facilities it has. They have a lovely bar on 10thfloor with a huge roof terrace that is unused?! I don't understand why they don't use the space any more- the views up there are amazing. It feels like management can't be bothered with upgrading and are just plodding on a little and not making use of the great facilities the hotel has!
Breakfast was good, we enjoyed it every day. Didn't have any other meals there apart from a sandwich from the pool/snack bar which was terrible and very overpriced- would not recommend the snack bar at all. There are so many nice places to eat in Albufeira with lots of fresh seafood. For some comfort food try the American Diner not too far down from the hotel-amazing burgers. Also the La Bamba restaurant on the strip much further down do the best kebabs we have ever had- the mixed kebab on a skewer...delicious. Would recommend the beach by the marina in Vilamoura, beautiful beach and some nice restaurants and bars in vilamoura. Overall a nice hotel that needs updating. We would definitely return to this hotel, but it would be nice for them to start making use of the great facilities though like the 10th floor roof terrace bar.

The photos must be 20 years old. It was super noisy, with a fun park across the way broadcasting sports games via loudspeaker all day and evening. They offered the bare minimum in terms of amenities. I will say, the room was large. The price was reasonable, but compared to other hotels on this trip for the same price, I say continue looking.

Room Tip: if you stay on the ocean side, it might be more worth the price, could be quieter and offer a view...

We stayed in the Montechoro Hotel for 9 nights in July on a half board basis, this was a family holiday from grandparents, parents and teenagers. We researched this hotel and it advertised nightly entertainment, good food and good location well the only positive side was the location. There was no entertainment, the food was so bad we decided to eat out every night instead.

Room Tip: We were lucky to have a pool view which was nice

I have just returned from a weeks stay in the Montechoro, I would just like to second all the comments made about this hotel, it needs updating. The rooms are massive, air conditioning good BUT, who has carpets in the room nowdays(faded by the window from the sun) a BIG backed TV, with low sound. The bathroom smelt and the tiles have defo seen better days. The beds were comfortable though...As I said the rooms are massive so I cannot understand why there isnt a little fridge in the room with Tea & Coffee making facilities, as one night when returning from a nice meal out, wanted to relax with a coffee, went downstairs to buy one but everything shut, it was not late and the receptionist was rude telling me its all closed now, not even recommending where I could get one.
Most of the reception staff nice, housekeeping staff nice & helpful. The funniest thing was the security man(well he thought he was security) at the pool walking around lookin in peoples bags checking they hadnt bought food & drink from the supermarket to the pool..we used to sit and watch him marching around trying to catch people, if he could of had a security machine like at the airport at the doors of the pool he would of...funniest of all is once hes passed you can sneakily eat your food and drink...lol.
SO, I would defo NOT go back to this hotel but would go back to Albefeira, lovely place.
