“Beautiful Spacious Accomodation - Very rude staff!”
Reviewed July 28, 2009

Hello everyone. Alpinus falesia is great value for money. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment and it was just massive: Spacious, modern and very clean. It's a great hotel if you don't mind being spoken down to by the reception staff.

It was very important to us that we had a parking space. I phoned the hotel when I booked it 6 months in advance and agreed to pay the fee. Then I rang again to confirm it 2 days before hand and they said it was all ok. Well, when I got there not only did they not have a clue about the parking request - They pretty much ignored me, started speaking in Portuguese to each other and then very rudely said that I had to pay for the parking as if I wasn't thinking of paying at all. I felt rather humiliated and to be honest, there is no need for me to have to argue. They should change their staff because the hotel is lovely.

After scouring trip advisor for reviews and tips, finally settled for the Luna Alpinus and extremely happy with our choice. All the preparation work does pay off!!

Hotel is situated in Acoteias which is about a 15 minute drive from Albufeira. Town relatively small with a couple of supermarkets and fair few bars. Other hotels in proximity so you could use their facilities if need be. Not too far from Falesia beach which is a great place if that is what you want from a holiday. As we hired a car for the week we thought the hotel was perfect but could understand that those without a car could feel a bit cut off.

Hotel was perfect, we had a 1 bedroom apartment, which was very spacious. Lounge consisted of bed sofa. 2 arm chairs. tv and cd player. Balcony with table and chairs over looked the car park. Room also benefitted from a large kitchen which had all the usuual things you expect. Bathroom was very nice (word of advice make sure the boiler is on before you try to have a shower!!). Air conditioning throughout which was needed every day. As other reviewers have said you can use any card in the card switch which will enable the electricty to stay on while you are out (an old library card worked a treat!!!).

We found a good deal and stayed half board which suits us as we always disagree on where to go and what to eat. Breakfasts were very nice with the bread and rolls awesome. Freshly baked and plentiful. always bacon, eggs both fried and scrambled, mushrooms, tomatoes baked beans and sausages of some kind. Aswell as your usual continental choice of meats, melon, cereals and fruit juices. Coffee machine wasn't at all nice so we used to have the hot milk and use the packet coffee which was available. Evening meal was ok nothing to write home about. Always a meat and a fish option and usually some other choice (lasagne 1 night), 3 different types of potato, rice and salad bar etc. Every night we had a different soup. Biggest disappointment considering what we saw elsewhere in Portugal was the dessert selection which was pitiful. 3 choices which 1 was always melon!!! They even stopped serving the ice cream after the 4th night!!

Car parking was free and plentiful, 2 pools with the north Pool looking the better of the 2. Evening entertainment was poor but as we were out most evenings wasn't a downside to our hotel. All other facilities were first class, room cleaned every day and towels changed daily. Public areas very clean. Staff were ok, we asked for a late departure from our room and considering the hotel was far from full was disappointed to be refused. Manager is a jobs worth to say the least.

Places to visit - Vilamoura is lovely especially at night for a walk round the marina, Albufeira old town is great love the escalators down to the beach. Regency Patisseria next to Brisa Sol Hotel is awesome and if you go get a table out the back with views to die for. Both the markts at Quarteira and Loule are worth a visit. If you are adventurous like us then go to Seville, you wont be disappointed. Took us about 2hrs 20 and was well woth it. Park bu the bull ring and walk to the cathedral and Alcazar and dont forget to go to Plaza de Espana.

Overall a great hotel in a nice location particularly if you have a car. Wouldn't look elsewhere if went again.

Finally if you do stay here have a walk to the shearton hotel and go out the back down to its own beach via the lift and stairs awesome!!

As a family with three children aged 8, 9 and 10. It was important for us to find a child friendly and safe hotel. After checking reviews and this website we had an idea that we had chosen the right destination for us.
I must say that the reviews were fairy spot on but they didn't describe just how relaxed the area surrounding the alpinus is.
We booked an apartment and were on a self catering basis. This I would recommend because although the restaurant is well run, the food choice is limited and there is a wide choice of local restaurants nearby to choose from. Although I would recommend the hotel snacks around the pool.
From the local restaurants the only one I wouldn't recommend would be the chinese. This is a few doors from the pharmacy, just down the road to the hollywood bar. Food was badly prepared and very fatty.
The lobster restaurant was visited twice!!
Local supermarket was well stocked and very friendly. Be carefull if you're buying scissors......£17.50 for nail scissors.
Couldn't fault the room. We had a two bedroom apartment number 341. Fantastic as this room came with it's own sun balcony. About 20 ft square and with it's own sunloungers. TV with bbc and itv, good for the kids in the morning.
Would recommend a trip to the beach. Half an hour walk but well worth it. Some steps to negotiate so not for those with difficulties walking but a clean beach and lovely water.
The bar in the evening was quite but the entertainment was of a good standard and they were happy for the children to join in when the kareoki was brought out.
Bar staff were excellent but the reception were not the same. Not rude but not as helpfull.
Pools were great. We tended to stay around the larger pool as our children are a mixture of swimming ability and this catered for all.
Overall a great location if you're after a relaxing holiday which offers safety for your children.

I traveled to the Algarve region with my husband and 2 year old son on a whim. We are Americans living in Germany for the next several years and we usually take a 1 week holiday every three or four months. We booked this hotel/apartment for $26 (about 15 GBP) a night. Our apartment was enormous, with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 huge balconies, living room, dining room, and equipped kitchen. The place was spotless with housekeeping service daily. There was live entertainment in the bar/coffee shop 5 out of the 7 nights we were there. All of the entertainment was in Portuguese AND English. (by the way, it is Portugal and I don't understand why everyone on here seems to demand that they speak English.) Breakfast in the hotel was 6Euro and was ok, but we only ate there once. After the 1st day, we went to the grocery store and cooked our own breakfast in the apt. Some reviews have made it seem like there is nothing at all around the hotel. There are at least 20 bars and restaurants (and 2 supermarkets) in short walking distance. It is possible to walk to the beach, but everyone travelling to this region should really hire a car. We were able to explore the whole area from the Spanish border to the western tip of southern Portugal, stopping at several beaches along the way. This is absolutely a 4* property and even if the front desk staff wasn't overly enthusiastic and 2 of the 7 nights didn't have entertainment, It was $26!!! I think some people are just really hard to please. Seriously, Hostels cost more! We can't wait to go back!!!

Tips: Definately Hire a car and drive west. Check out the beaches along the way and you will be amazed at the variations in the topography. Some are flat with seashells, some are rocky with grottos, some are cliffs and valleys, etc.

In Lagos, there are beautiful boat tours of the grottos (see pictures). It was only 10 Euros and we had the boat to ourselves!

I stayed here for a week with my wife and we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel rooms are really clean and are very big with all required facilities, we could have easily stayed in the same apartment with two kids. There is a choice of two pools which are both okay and the reception and general hotel building is of a decent standard. The beach is a 10 minute walk and I would highly recommend the chinese down there for a really really good feed. There is an infrequent free bus down to Albufeira strip but it only really costs 6 or 7 euros in a taxi, the old town of Albufeira is a little further and well worth checking out. We will stay here again in the future...

Just returned yesterday from a girlie weekend to celebrate a 30th birthday, we chose here for the price - for 6 of us it worked out at £39 for 3 nights each - we had a 2 bedroomed apartment, it had 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen and 2 balconies and was spotless and also cleaned everyday with fresh towels. We found all the staff very friendly, especially the bar staff and poor Pedro the night man. We didnt eat at the hotel except for lunch on the Friday - pizza not great but my tuna salad was yum - all washed down with a very strong sangria. We stayed by the pool and worked our way through the cocktail menu made by Ferriair (sth like that anyway) We used the free bus the first night into the old town - the strip was tacky with english/Irish pubs - a no go when we go on hols!!! Walk past the main square in the Old Town and you will find some lovely places to eat. Best cocktails were in a rock bar - hate the music but the cocktails were mighty fine- taxis are only €10 so we used them the 2nd night, this was a late one as didnt get in till 6am!!! Breakfast was vodka jelly on Sunday and as we were going home on the Monday decided to stay local that day - Nicola's is lovely for lunch - good fresh food and again lovely sangria, that night we went to Piri Piri about 5 minutes walk from Apartments - if you are a singleton (we had 2) go here for possibly some of the best looking waiters and chefs ever!!!!! The food is excellent - bit more expensive but worth it just for the window shopping!!!!! We upset a few of the local men who were trying out their chat up lines in preparation for the influx of women during the summer months!!!! Our ages ranged from 28 to 43 - so much for an early night, ended up in Brothers bar with 3 of the staff from the hotel and 4 of the waiters and chefs from Piri Piri - eventually went to bed about 3am and up again at 7 to go home. This is a good place to stay for a girly weekend. The only downside was the hot water for showers - after 2 it went cold - not too nice when getting ready to go out.

Just returned from a girlie weekend. The hotel was very bright, roomy & spotless but what miserable and unhelpful staff. They work very long shifts but should not take this out on holidaymakers. Reception staff not very welcoming and one barmaid was very agressive and was witnessed kicking a door. The price of the drinks at the bar depended on who was serving you. Breakfast was good. Very minimal information in hotel about places to go and things to do so we relied on information from people who had already been there for about a week. We enjoyed a meal in Albufeira Old Town one evening but it was so much of a trek to get there we decided not to return. The other two nights we had lovely meals at local restaurants with excellent service. These being Tania's which is about a 10 minute walk from hotel and Frego Real in the square at Falesia where we would recommend the swordfish on the Touristo Menu, this was about a 15/20 minute walk from hotel. We would not return here due to the staff and the distance from places of interest. Met some nice people there especially Tony & Melanie who we had a great laugh with. Back to good old Majorca next time.
