Alpinus Hotel
Ranked #43 of 154 Hotels in Albufeira
Reviewed August 17, 2013

We have just returned from a six night stay at the Alpinus apartments with our two and a half year old. The apartment was the most spacious we'd ever stayed in with a large lounge area, separate kitchen diner, and the bedroom was big enough to accommodate the beds and additional cot which we requested on arrival. Our apartment overlooked the smaller pool area which meant we had a wonderful sunrise every morning and sun on the balcony for a lot of the day. This did mean however we were positioned above the entertainment area during the evenings acts. Not so much of an issue to us as we were on the fifth floor however speaking to people lower down the noise for them was a major issue!
We didn't stay all inclusive, although we did choose to eat in the hotel restaurant on a couple of occasions. In no way is the food gourmet class, but was perfectly adequate, the selection was varied and what was on offer was perfectly edible!
We spent some days by the main pool, our little one enjoyed the fact she could get in and out of the pool at her leisure and being right next to the pool meant we could keep a close eye on her at all times. The usual reserve a sunbed with a towel game was much in evidence by the usual crowd, however the animation team made frequent sweeps of the pool area and removed any towels that had been left for a long period of time. This added to the days entertainment when people arrived back later in the day to find themselves evicted!
The poolside snacks were adequate during the day and would advise the omelette!!
The actual location of this hotel was ok for us as we choose to go out and about and explore the locality. The nearby beach is a bit of a trek with a very steep road which everybody used as a car park. Not advisable with a pushchair. And then at the bottom of the road there is a large number of steps to negotiate.
There are a number of restaurants in the vicinity and we didn't have a bad meal in any of them.
All in all we had a terrific break, and the Alpinas was more than adequate for what we required. May be not four star but at the end of the day the holiday is what you make it!

Room Tip: We requested a microwave as we had bottles and food to warm for our daughter. One arrived within ten...

Thought it was a 4 star hotel, must be scraping through for the 4th star.. Room was great.. didnt like the bar as we had to have all our drinks in plastic glasses. Cleanliness of rooms were ok, food was ok not much choice. One thing that was good was the free bus to the beach or to the old town. As the hotel wasn`t very close to anywhere a taxi was reqd which was around 13 euros each way which soon mounts up. I would seriously reconsidering if booking an all inclusive here, we were lucky we only booked bed and breakfast.

Room Tip: Take the rear pool view with 2 bedrooms.. their huge!

Myself and husband visited this hotel in 2011 for a all inclusive stay. The hotel room was very spacious and clean with its own kitchen, front room and balcony. The hotel benefited from having two pools however we found we did not stay and use these often as we are more of the beach kind. The beach was a 15min walk away which was tiring but worth it!
The hotel put on a complimentary bus from the hotel which would take you too an from albuferia, we didn't really like it much here however would get a taxi from here into the old town which would cost aprox £3. The old town is lovely with plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs.

The food in the hotel was average pretty much what you would expect from an all inclusive. Overall I would say that we had a nice stay but would not return to this hotel due to location and would ideally like to be nearer the albufeira old town.

We are back from a lovely weeks stay at this hotel. Our room/apartment was very spacious and it was a nice surprise to also have a kitchenette even though we were staying on an all inclusive basis. If we hadn't read on tripadvisor beforehand about booking the bus to the beach in advance then we would have possibly had a very different holiday because our young children would have struggled on the walk to the beach, however we were able to book the bus and the lovely friendly driver picked us up promptly each day. In places the hotel is tired and needs a little bit of tlc within the next couple of years to retain it's 4* status, our sofabed for example was very uncomfortable. Some of the staff (especially the lady who drives the hotel bus, a couple of the reception staff and waitresses) were very friendly, others are clearly fed up with their jobs and to be honest were not particularly welcoming. Contrary to reviews on here we found the food very good. The snacks included in the all inclusive package however were soso but we ate so well at the main mealtimes this did not matter. I don't think we'd stay here again but for the price we paid the hotel was good value and we did have a lovely holiday.

The hotel was good and we enjoyed our weeks stay. Our only issue was the old chestnut of guests "booking sunbeds" by placing towels etc on them from 7am and the disappearing often until much later.- despite prominent notices at poolside stating this was prohibited. We raised this with reception who told us that while the hotels policy was just that it was very difficult for them to impose it and they were unwilling to become involved. In view of this and being unable to secure sunbeds we decided our only option was "if you can`t beat them join them". It was therefore with considerable dismay that a few days later having placed towels on sunbeds they (and no others) were removed by hotel staff. On speaking with reception we pointed out that having been advised that the hotel did not enforce its policy it now seemed that we had been singled out for apparently rocking the boat. No satisfactory explanation was provided. The hotel must consistently apply its policy - not merely when it chooses to occasionaly do so.Provision of additional sunbeds (there is plenty of room for them) would help to alleviate this problem.

Room Tip: High up as possible and not overlooking main pool area (evening outdoor entertainment until 11pm)

Spent one week at Luna Alpinus, self catering in a one bedroom apartment. Lovely apartments in a great location, good choice of restaurants within 10 minutes walk and a very pleasant 20 minute walk to the beach. We preferred the North pool as it is a bit bigger than the South and a bit quieter. Staff were all pleasant and very helpful. Would definitely return to the Luna Alpinus.

we just back from this hotel and we always go half board we have always been pleased with the food in the past but this hotel is by far the worse food we have ever had. first it was always cold and the choice was fish or some sort of meat the salad was warmer than so called hot meals we spoke to the manager who did not seem to give a dam. the room was very good, entertainment was not much. we had about 5 meals out of 14 at the hotel would not recommend half/full board such a let down
