Praia Sao Rafael is certainly a nice place were to spend some hours in the sun and, if the sea is not too cold, also for a good swim.
We found it a bit difficult to reach as there was not public transport to the beach, so we decided to walk from Albufeira Old Town (don't do it if you don't have good shoes, water and a hat...it is hot and long).
We actually preferred Praia Arrifes, which is next to Sao Rafael and more striking. The only problem is that being very small, it can become easily crowded, most of all with flow tide.
In any case, a place worthy going.
