We had to pre-book the Christmas Day lunch, and pay a deposit in advance, but this meant that we were a small party with each table getting lots of individual attention, including a personalised Christmas Card, which was a nice welcoming touch. The restaurant is down by the marina, overlooking the sea, so it offers a terrific view.
We assembled for a glass of fizz and canapés at 12:30, and during the half hour that the diners rolled up, our hosts were very generous with both aperitif and hors d'ouevres. The meal consisted of six courses, with cream of asparagus soup to follow the canapés, crab fishcake with giant prawn, then roast turkey (or sea bass), Christmas Pud (or fresh fruit) and finally a huge cheese board, which nobody had any room for. So, they wrapped the lot up in tinfoil for us to take away. A glass of port and home made mince pies completed the meal - and they wrapped the latter up for us too.
Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who took the trouble to chat to us and make us feel at home. Some of the other diners were expats who had obviously eaten here before. The drinks were all reasonably priced, and the standard of cuisine was very high. There was just too much food to stuff down at one sitting. The turkey and trimmings constituted a meal in itself, and it was beautifully done. Well done the owners and staff!
