My friend and I have just returned from a six night stay at the Monica Isabel. everything from checking in to checking out could not be faulted. We where greeted by a very friendly receptionist who upgraded us to the main hotel and had our bags taken to the room for us. Rooms where cleaned everyday we where there and towels also. large bathroom with overhead shower had plenty of hot water and complimentary soaps. If you wanted to cook there was a full oven and hob, full size fridge, a portable tv with sky news and itv3 with other foreign channels. the hotels pool was cleaned everyday and had plenty of beds and parasols maybe a different story in the summer and the beautiful beach was a very short walk down the steps from the hotel. Albufera was a fifteen minute walk or a bus ride from tha main road at the hotel, there is also a little train which takes you around the town area. Plenty of places to eat with good special offers you must visit the Irish bar in the old town and meet Amy and Mick perfect hosts.
All in all a great holiday out of season i think the summer may be a different story. there was an indoor heated pool and a small jucuzzi, gym and sauna. breakfast although was the same every morning was enough to set you up for the day.

a final footnote I dropped my credit card from my purse and had it returned before I had even realised it was missing by one of the maids. I offered her some money as a thank you but she would not take until I asked her to as a thank you. honesty beyond belief.

our thanks to them all for such a nice and relaxing holiday would not hestiate to return the whole holiday was booked via easyjet without any hitches.

Hi there stayed here for the last 2 weeks in august with my girfriend, only for the fact we had a nice holiday im not going to be overly negative. allthough the standard of service from reception was terrible, trying to order a taxi from reception before a night out was incredibly frustrating, not that i would blame the taxi company reception were very reluctant to fone you a taxi probably too busy tending to their french guests who were obviously their main priority.

when trying to order a taxi each evening i was told to walk instead because the taxi companies were to busy, but on insisting they keep trying i usually got one within 10 mins after being told by reception there was no hope.

cockroaches were a problem but in fairness they cant be stopped rooms were cleaned everyday allthough the times they cleaned were sometimes crazy either way to early or way to late in afternoon.

swimming pools were absolutely freezing the atlantic ocean off ireland where im from is warmer than there pools.

positves include, very close to the beach no matter what block you stay in. and hotel is situated well between the strip and old town.

Not long back and had a great holiday this is the 3rd year in a row we have been here. Found the staff to be very helpful. The rooms were cleaned every day and towels changed every day to. We stayed for 12 nights and the bed linen was changed once. the hotel entertainment did not suit my wife and I so we made our way to the strip a 15 min walk every evening. The hotel is located right on the edge of a great sandy beach, but you have a very steep hill to get back to the reception area. Overall we have had three great holidays here and if at all possible we will be back in 2009. If we don't make it back to this hotel it will be somewhere close to the area hopefully

As already stated, location is great. We were staying in Block 2 which was very confusing on our first night there but we found it ok afterwards. Rooms were spacious and clean and the area was quiet, no early morning noise because of traffic. Activities & entertainment were all in French and German, no English translation given. Hotel more or less inhabited by French. As stated below, reception staff most unhelpful and rude (except for the very pleasant blonde receptionist). The staff in general were not very nice except for the cleaning ladies who were friendly and most helpful. Impossibe to get taxis, so we either walked to 'The Strip' or got the bus to old Albuferia. Will stay in area again but not Monica Isabel, the nearby Elma apartments seem very good.

Went away to celebrate my 30th birthday with my girlfriend for 5 nights (sat-wed) as a quick break as we couldnt believe we found an all inclusive for this amount of time at only a reasonable £300 each. Check in was quite pleasant and the rooms even though it is quite hilly were great, staying in 'C' block with a great view of the sea and the surrondings, thats were things started to go a bit wrong..
The food was terrible and only fish on the menu, full of about 90% french people, which if i was in france wouldnt complain but the entertainment was sent up for them in the afternoon and the night and also it was like gods waiting room with everyone over the age of sixty. We ate in the restaurant twice in six days and drank only once in the night there but only for an hour. We made are entertainment on the strip or the Irish bar which is 30 seconds walk from the hotel, the breakfast and other food is greart and very friendly with all the football getting showed there.
Even though its in a great location this hotel, only go if your french, old or have no life!!!

  • Liked — the sunset oin the beach
  • Disliked — How long have u got, the food, the staff, the entertainment, the french....

The Monica Isabel is a pleasant hotel beach complex spanning a wide area including a combination of hotel rooms, apartment blocks and chalets. Offering different levels of service from just B&B to all inclusive.

We stayed in the C'block in a large self contained family sized room. Is was well decorated and bedding was clean. There were 2 x single beds, a newly appointed white bathroom with shower, small kitchenette, table and chairs, living area with 2 x sofa/beds and a balcony looking out to the sea and a cliff face. Cleaning staff were efficient although the tiled floors could have done with a good hot water scrub!

The balcony wasn't overlooked by others, very charming and the lapping of the ocean could be heard. In the late afternoon the sun poured in but with the air con on it was great to cool down. My father stayed in a smaller room one floor above (it had no lounge area), similarly appointed but the bathroom was older (avocado green suite), it also sat below a flood light which they found too bright. The light attracted mosquitoes (we were spared) which in turn attracted a lovely big lizard! Luckily my Dad loves wildlife! Being in a separate block our room was a short walk from the main complex but it allowed us to park our hire cars right outside which was just perfect, like we had our own little apartments. If you wanted you could drive the 500 yards to the pool but we simply walked!!

The location of the hotel is just perfect. It nestles neatly by the beach and is equidistant from both the new town with its 'strip' and the old town with its charming square and delightful restaurants. You can walk to both (in 15 mins or so depending on your food/alcohol intake), catch the bus or jump in a taxi for less than 4 Euros’.

The beach is right there although you will need to pay for sun beds. There's a great bar serving lots of snacks, beer, drinks, ice creams, slushies etc and it has good views. The pool areas are dated but clean and functional. The other foreign guests were charming and much friendlier and more polite than your average 'Brit yob abroad' which we prefer! Aqua gym was fun and the pool was cool but very refreshing after baking in the warm September sun.

The main complex seemed lively enough in the evenings although we stuck to local bars, the strip or the old town for dining out as most of the entertainment was French and not really our thing.

Breakfast was served on the top floor restaurant with a stunning panoramic vista. What a shame the quality of the food didn't match the view. The hot breakfast food was nothing short of abysmal I wouldn't feed it to my dog. The orange juice hadn't been near a real orange and could have been powdered. We stuck to cereals, jam and bread, however even that left a lot to be desired. Such a shame. We were relieved not to be going all inclusive! The restaurants nearby serve infinitely superior food and not trying them would be crazy!

In short, for us the Monica Isabel was nearly perfect. It gave us everything we needed. Peace and quiet, a great pool, beach location, right in between the 2 sides of town, a very large well appointed air conditioned private room with excellent parking. It was the holiday location we wanted and were looking for.

  • Liked — Location of apartment, being able to park outside, large family room, proximity to sea/beach/town
  • Disliked — Buffet breakfast was nothing short of appalling, go to a local snack place for a full English!
