This was definitely not 4star as per English rating, room was satisfactory large with good sized balcony, it needed an update it was not as clean as I would have liked it , it was tired and the drains smelt when you let water away the shower was great though. we were over the bar area and the noise continued well past closing hour of 11pm. Two hen parties were there for some of our stay and they were very noisy. We also experienced a lot of noise from above well into the night which reception did try to sort but not very successfully. Food was ok it was all self service. Glad we only had a week and would not return.

We recently stayed at the Varandas and after reading the reviews we were worried about staying there..Have to say that we enjoyed staying at the hotel.
we found the staff to be friendly and Michaela on reception was a star.
Although not a 4 star the hotel was clean and there was always a meat, fish and vegetarian option to eat. (I would say more like a 2 plus or 3 star) The bar staff and restaurant staff were pleasant and they were having the furniture re-covered while we there. We had a cheap and enjoyable break and would certainly go back.It was a lot better than some of the reviews say and was a cheap short break!.

Just returned from a 4 night stay. We arrived at 9.30pm and having just missed out on dinner thought there would be some form of other snacks available, but this wasn't the case. (snacks are only served between 3.30pm and 5.30pm)
The room was average. It was cleanish but not spotless. It lacked some things I would have expected from an all inclusive, for instance, they didn't even supply soap for hand washing, half the lights didn't work, there was a hole in the bathroom door and a questionable substance had run down the wall from a light fixture. We were in room 502 on the side which was north facing, which had a view of the carpark and was quite cold at night. If you can chose your room, I would suggest a south facing room overlooking the swimming pool.
The food was not brilliant, for breakfast there was always sausage, bacon, scrambled egg, beans and warm sliced tomatoes, cereal, some fruit and yoghurt and bread rolls and jam. The toasters were terrible and took forever to brown the bread. Lunch and dinner were very similar, always a meat dish, fish dish and chips and rice or pasta. I wouldn't say it was inedible but it wasn't very inspiring, quite plain and boring; but the salad was always nice and fresh.
The bar and pool area were extremely small to say it had 72 suites. There was only one bar with seating for around 20 people, the sunbeds numbers were fairly similar. I do think they probably had more sunbeds in storage for when it is the height of the season, but still I wouldn't like to visit in the height of the season because I don't know where you would sit or how long it would take to get served!
The staff were helpful, but I din't feel they were overly friendly.
The hotel is in a great location. There is a large shopping centre at the end of the road with a supermarket on the second and third floors. There are fast food outlets across the road from this shopping centre and a taxi rank; and a further five minute walk would take you to the hop on hop off road train, which is only 4 euros for a whole day and runs until 11pm. It takes you to the old town (for the beach) and the strip which have good bars and eateries in the evenings. A taxi would only cost around 3 euros 50 cents to go the old town or you could probably walk it in around 20 mins (it's quite hilly on the return journey though!)
On the whole I had a great time, but I was on a hen do with my friends. I don't think families would be attracted to this hotel as there is no entertainment day or night to keep children entertained.
If you're expecting a 4 star hotel you'll be disappointed, and as an all inclusive, it's also quite poor, but for 200 quid with flights included for 4 nights it's not going to be the ritz!

Room Tip: choose south side, better views and warmer room

I would just like to comment on the staff Anna Paulo Carlos and the lovely lady at reception they could not do enough for us always smiling. Our room was impeccably clean and done every day of our stay. The food was great "we'll for me it must have been as I filled my plate several times and ate all of it" for all of the people who had little better than to criticise remember what you paid you could not get a Asda shop for that price then have everything done for you and beer on tap. To top it all off when you could go outside and have a big ball of burning gas beat down on you all day defies all logic when you have to go back home to abysmal weather and spend your hard earned cash on keeping warm. I would just like to say a massive thank you all. And look out we will return maybe this year but defiantly same time next year have fun and see you all soon xx

Room Tip: Your there for the sun and the relaxation not to sit in your room all day. Get a grip xx

We've just returned from a week at Varandas de Albufeira, staying from 12/03/14 to 19/03/04. We found our 6th floor room (sea glimpse - just!) to be clean and well equipped. The space standards of the Apartmento style rooms are very generous. A couple of small maintenance points we raised were dealt with very promptly. The staff in general were very helpful, particularly with sorting out a return transfer query. We were staying on a half board basis and found the food to be very good. All meals are buffet style, with a good range of choice. We enjoyed every one of them. Be prepared, however, to wear a coloured plastic armband which identifies your guest entitlements!
Albufeira Old Town is fascinating and local beaches are fabulous, second to none. In mid March, however, virtually nobody was willing to risk sea bathing. The local coastline is replete with wonderful beaches, small sandy coves and many cliff and rock features. We'd recommend the Hop-on Hop-off tourist bus (fare E13), especially the hop-off for the Salgados lagoon with its flamingos.
The hotel is some way from the beaches and Old Town. Whilst the trip down is easily walkable, senior visitors may find the climb back from the front a bit daunting.
We had a great time and would most certainly return to this hotel.

Room Tip: South of the hotel is another similar building, sea views are pobably not available unless on top floor.
