We stumbled upon the Hotel Baltum while on a day trip in Albufeira from Lisbon and decided that, for only 67 Euros, we could stay the night in Albufeira and go to the beach in the morning. The location is only a couple blocks from the beach and right in the heart of what I like to call "Margaritaville": the super-touristy, partytime section of town.

I immediately second-guessed my decision when I saw the dark, dingy little room that faced the street. I reasoned that we would be exhausted later and only needed it to sleep and shower. Unfortunately, my partner and I are not hardcore party animals, and after a mediocre dinner at one the many nearby-mediocre-restaurants we decided that a night on the town probably was not in the cards, so we retreated to our room.

The noise from the streets continued until 5am. The shrill hollers of giddy/belligerent drunkeness. Unable to sleep, we just stared are the grey walls and wiggled under the itchy sheets. While it may be a bargain for someone who really enjoys the nightlife of downtown Albufeira, Hotel Baltum really wasn't for us.

This hotel was very central in the old fishing village.
2 mins out the door to the left takes you along to the square,
passing shops and restaurants along the way.
In the square there are more shops, pubs and restaurants.
1 min out the door of the hotel to the right takes you to the beach.
There is now a 2 tier escalator which takes you to the top of the hill to the bus stop. From there you can get the small "train" into the strip.
As this was our first visit in the winter, we did not know it was so cold in the morning as well as at night. No extra bedding or heating was provided. The breakfast was same every morning, and altough it was included in the package, we ate out a few mornings just to vary things. The bed was brick hard, and you had to run the shower for about 4-5 mins before the water was warm enough to shower.
The Portuguese are lovely people, the area was very nice and always clean. I would recommend a visit, but not to this hotel.

When traveling with friends sometimes you have to make concessions... well this place was certainly mine! It's proudly a 2 star motel through and through... I will say the location was great... 2 mins from the beach and main square... and the rooms are kept clean... but it's still pretty dumpy.

The hotel is a two minute walk to the beach. This may be no big deal but most people are situated at the top of the hill which is fine coming down but a nightmare after a long day on the beach.

The old town square with all of the bars and restaurants is 2 minutes in the other direction (Casa de Sangria is a must).

The hotel staff are business like. Efficient but not too friendly. Our room was small but clean. I would say go room only and skip breakfast, very boring, there are only so many ham & cheese rolls you can eat in one week.

I would definately return here for a hastle free beach holiday.
