I have just enjoyed a 4 day stay at the Tropical Sol Hotel, with my other half and another couple. I would def go back to this hotel again. The room we were given was on the pool level, all we had to do was open the door and we had the pool, snack bar and sun all day long.

The rooms were clean when we got there and were cleaned everyday, altho i didnt once see a maid in our room, they were very discreet and didnt insist on banging the door at 10am every mornin like other places i have stayed!

The room had everything you needed, regardless of the length of trip. Microwave, 2 hob cooker, fridge and cooking utensils etc. There was a tv with 5/6 english speaking channels as well as portuguese. Folding dining table, massive wardrobe, large bathroom, 2 reclining chairs, large bed and plenty of shelf space for suncream etc. It really is a home from home. Some aparments have a bedroom and a living room too, somethin im sure you could request if you needed a bigger room.

The balcony was superb as it was straight out to the pool area, there was no need to go in the hotel if you didnt want to. The balcony was private, equiped with a table and chairs and an electric sun shade. The hotel during the day was quiet and at night there was no noise whatsoever. The staff were very friendly and pleasant, as were most people we got talking to.

The pool itself was rather cold, but we were there in sept and it was lovely to cool down in it so id imagine its a welcome relief in the hotter months!! The pool also had a "moat" goin all the way around the outside, as well as a sectioned off baby pool and showers outside. It also has a lovely water feature instead of the diving board i saw in previous pictures.

The snack bar was lovely too, very reasonable as well as a happy hour that saw beer at just 1.50 euros! The food was delicious and the service was friendly, it was a good wait at times for food but it was obviously freshly made so i wont complain about that!

Overall the hotel was a lovely place to stay, it was ideal for our needs and could be as private as you wanted. It was a lovely lay out and one of the best hotels iv stayed in. I will def be goin back for another visit soon.

Having read the reviews on here I was fairly optimistic that this hotel was going to tick all the boxes. Unfortunately not.

On arriving at reception we were greeted by an unpleasant fellow who looked afronted when we reminded him that we had asked for an apartment not on the ground floor. He and a couple of other members of staff were generally unpleasant and rude.

The apartment itself was spacious and clean enough, but very, very dated. Not quite sure on what basis that this could be judged a 4* hotel.

The pool area was perfectly nice and the grass area was a good feature. Major problem was that there weren't enough sunbeds, which leads to an unholy dawn fight for sunbeds. The usual problems occur as those who have put their towels down don't turn up until late afternoon for their half hour by the pool.

The hotel clientele were primarily families with young children, so by late afternoon, the pool is basically a no go area. It's just over-run with kinds and ball games etc. Get in and out for a dip and that is about it. Far too busy and you feel like you are packed in like sardines.

As for Albufeira, I have to say that neither my wife nor I were big fans. The strip is tacky and full of restaurants selling the same food;chicken, chips, steak, pizza. I suppose a good rule of thumb is not to go anywhere that has pictures of their meals on alaminated sheet. Applying this rule here might mean you go hungry. Had a few shocking meals and found the service woeful. Not remembering orders for further drinks and forgetting starters. Quite rude again.

One trick that i detested, and have seen in other resorts, is the waiter placing bread and butter on your table after you have ordered. You would think that it would be reasonable to assume that this is complementary. Nope. We quickly got into the habit of handing it straight back. I am confident that they won't try this on with locals.

The Old Town, while far more pleasant to look at than the Strip, was also very very busy.

So, didn't really rate compared to other European restorts (Los Cristianos and other simliar) and certainly didn't rate the Tropical Sol, which was a huge disappointment. Perhaps I was expecting too much having read the reviews on here.

My husband, 6.5 month old daughter and I arrived at the Tropical Sol Apartments on 21 August and were pleasantly surprised at the size of our 1 bed apt. It had everything we needed and the balcony was enormous with 2 sunbeds and table and chairs.

We used the sunbeds on our balcony due to the fact that the typical sun worshippers apparently needed to get up early to reserve their sunbeds by the pool. We weren't too bothered by this as we preferred to stay out of the sun with our daughter.

The staff at the hotel were pleasant and efficient which was fine. We can't comment on the entertainment as we didn't frequent the bar whatsoever.

The apartments were cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. The cot bed provided for our daughter was clean and in good condition.

The apartments were nicely situated and handy for the "Strip", however, we preferred taking a 20 min walk to the Old Town which was just nicer in appearance and had a better atmosphere. If you are part of a young crowd then the Strip is a perfect place for you - plenty of bars to quench your thirst!

Places to eat:

Poolside snack bar - we didn't actually manage to eat here due to it being so busy but that has to be a good sign!

Clay Oven - about a 5 min walk from the Tropical Sol and fantastic for those of you who want to try authentic Indian food. Absolutely delicious! My husband raved about this place as he loves to make his own curries and these were "better than any he'd tasted back home"

Nosolo Italia - Fab Pizzas and Ice Cream - delish!

The Bakery (can't remember the name) - A 2 min walk from the apartments. Great little place with fabulous cakes and fresh bread.

Places not to eat if you have a baby -

Happy House - they wouldn't leave us alone to eat our dinner and tried to take our 6 month old daughter away from us without asking. Not impressed and the constant attention was intimidating.

Albufeira was a lovely place, however there were quite a lot of steep hills/streets which made it difficult to walk with the pushchair and it would be even more difficult for those in a wheelchair. The pavements were uneven in places which made heels a no-no.

Other reviews state that the apartments look tired and are quite dated with regards to decor. This might be the case, however, if you look at other apartments in the area, many of them could do with a lick of paint and if your apartment is kept clean and you have clean towels and bedding, what else do you need??????

We were more than happy with our Tropical Sol experince and would probably stay there again should we return to Albufeira.

just got back and we found the tropical sol to say the least....very very boring !!
no entertainment ! not enough sunbeds ! in need of a refit ! not very nice staff (except at the snack bar....) noisy ! and certainly not a 4* hotel....it would struggle to get 2* at the most.
we could think of better places to go in the future....and certainly will.
the strip has got worse over the last 5 years, we now have open dealing on the streets, more touts, drunks and menu's doing the same food at very expensive prices.....there were a few exceptions to this but not enough.
turning into another blackpool with sun, im afraid albufaria is not what it was, and the tropical sol was not a nice hotel!

Cannot fault these apartments. They are kept very clean. Staff are very friendly both behind reception and in the Snack Bar.
Snack Bar prices very reasonable. Good location - 5 min walk to the strip and 20 mins to the Old Town.
If you are a beach lover - you are looking at a 15-20 minute walk to one of the beaches.
Pool absolutely freezing but kept clean.
This is very much a family place in August. There were lots of families there.
We are a young couple and met some lovely families here.
Lovely bakery next door - hard to choose!!!!
You need to be up early to reserve a lounger as there isnt enough for all guests.
Would definately recommend these apartments and would stay there again.

Our family stayed at the Tropical Sol for 2 weeks, having read the reviews we were looking forward to our stay. We were feeling very positive on the coach dropping other holidaymakers at rather plush looking hotels however the closer we got to Albeferia the more apprehensive we became. The outside of the accomadation was very tired, looking and did not appear to be of 4 * standars. Our room was very basic and the furniture was positively ancient the sofa bed in the living room was very warn and the pull out bed was stained. The cleaners made the bed in the bedroom 6 times weekly however the sofa bed was not changed for the whole 2 weeks and was only made on 1 occassion. There was absolutely nothing to entertain the children and balls of any description were banned. The best part of our stay was the snack bar beside the pool and the bakers which around the corner to the hotel.

Stayed at the Sol week before school october break last year. Apartments very clean and extremely good size. All in all a lovely hotel. Food at pool bar seemed to be good quality and not overpriced. But to be truthful we are beach people and spent the majority of the week down at the fabulous beach which was a walk of around 10-15 minutes. The fish restaurant in Albuferia old town were out of this world. Lived on fresh sardines and langoustine for a week, was in heaven.
This was a great little hotel, however would not like to stay during high season mainly due to the size of the resort. Pool area was not that big but big enough during the quieter week that we were there. Very easy to find your way into both new town and old town and very pleasant walks in the evening. All in all we had a great week here and cannot wait to return. The location and all was spot on.
