“Very good hotel at a cheap rate!”
Reviewed October 13, 2012

Great location if you want start at the top of the strip. Took us just under 10 minutes to the top. Hotel very nice and staff very friendly. Bird bar is very quiet and opens 9pm til 1am. Library is good where you can take books or add to the collection, swimming pool is cold but you soon warm up if it's a hot day! Weather was 26 to 30 degrees all week. Childs pool is good for toddlers and babys. Rooms are very spacious and if you are in the top floors you can see the sea. Would recommend this hotel.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in Silchoro for 2 weeks.

When we checked in we were greeted by friendly staff who gave us information on our room, and all the facilities they have including a games room, a mini market, a pool that is open 8am to 8pm, tennis court and a bus that runs to and from old town 3 times a day.

We were shown to our room, it was clean and spacious but it was on the very bottom floor which meant I had a lovely view of a wall and no balcony! I had requested when booking my holiday through Jetline that I would like a pool view and balcony.

The next day I spoke to the manager about this asking if I could be moved, he was very apologetic even though this was Jetline's fault for not communicating this to them but he was very understanding and he asked me to come back to him in 2 days, so I did and he handed me keys to a room on the 7th floor and was extremely pleased to find it had a view of the pool and almost the rest of Albufeira too!

Our room was cleaned everyday except Sundays which was great! The facilities in the room consisted of a fridge freezer, 2 hob rings, plates and bowls, cutlery, a toaster and a tv.

If we didn't fancy cooking, the food in the bar down stairs was cheap and nice so that was a great bonus too.

Everything is a bit dated, but for the price we paid it was perfect.

The location is great, 5 euros in a taxi would get you most places from Silchoro. 10-15 minute walk from the strip too.

The only negative for me was people reserving sunbeds with their towels as it was stated that this was not allowed but after a while, I couldn't beat them so I joined them!

Overall, a very happy customer!

Me and 5 friends stayed for a week in late September at the Silchoro Apartments. The apartments look like they have been built during the 1980s. The public areas and apartments could do with an update, but for the money we paid for our holiday, they were more than adequate. The hotel is in a residential part of the new town, a 5-10 minute walk takes you to the bars, restaurants and clubs of the strip.

We were checked in quickly by friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff at the big reception area which is open 24 hours a day. Day trips can be booked from here with transport to pick you up from the main road outside the hotel. We did this one day to go to the Slide and Splash water park - a very good day out.

The lifts are a bit dated, but work fine.

I was sharing a 1 bedroom apartment. This had a bedroom with twin beds, a large bathroom and a kitchen / dining area with 2 single sofa / beds. The dining area sat 4 people comfortably. Leading from the living / dining area was a balcony with table and 2 chairs and a handy clothes drier attached to the wall. The views of the hotel gardens and pool, Albufeira new town and the sea in the distance was good. The apartment, bedding and towels were spotless. The kitchen had a microwave, big fridge-freezer, 2 ring hob, kettle and toaster. The utensils would allow you to make simple meals, and there was good crockery and cutlery for 4 people. A sharp knife would have been useful - our friends had one in their apartments, so it must have been missing from ours.

The housekeeping was excellent - towels and bedding changed as advertised and the bathroom and apartment given a quick clean.

The facilities in the hotel are good - the pool is a good size and the gardens, children's play area and tennis court looked well maintained. They could have done with a few more sun loungers as we noticed some of the guests having a 'sun bed war' - getting up earlier and earlier to claim their beds (despite posters in the hotel asking guests not to do this). The mini-market had a decent range of goods and the prices seemed fair. The hotel also has a small library, internet room and video arcade.

The hotel's coffee shop is open all day until 1am. It serves hot and cold drinks, beers, wines, cocktails. A large beer (500ml) was 2.50 Euro which compared well with prices elsewhere. Breakfasts, snacks and meals were also available here. I ate lunch here a couple of days and the tuna baguette I had both times was good. The coffee shop has tables and chairs (and a television with UK channels), and also and outside seating area with parasols to provide shade.

There is also a bar, which opens later in the evenings where we went a couple of times. It charges the same prices as the coffee shop and also has outside seating. There is a small nightclub under the bar but this was not open while we were there.

The hotel provides a free mini bus service to and from the top of the escalators at fisherman's beach in the old town. This bus runs at 10am, 2pm and 5pm. If there are more people waiting than can fit in the bus, the driver will make return trips until done. This saves a 5 Euro taxi ride each way. Fisherman's beach and the old town are definitely worth going to. We spent most of our days and evenings there. In the evenings, reception will phone a taxi (75 cent charge for this). There is a taxi rank in the middle of the old town with plenty of taxis for the trip home.

All the staff were friendly and efficient.

Check out is at 11am. Our taxi to the airport wasn't until 4.30pm but there is a room next to reception where you can leave your bags free of charge. There is a shower room in the basement that you can also use - this was handy after swimming on our last day - take a towel from your room in the morning, then leave it in the shower room when done.

A laundry room with washing machines would be a good addition to the hotel's facilities.

Unlike some of the negative reviews on here, I found the public areas of the hotel clean, and the hotel was quiet at night (although we did hear a dog barking occasionally, but nothing to disturb my sleep). If this hotel was in the old town I would definitely return - for people who want to spend their evenings in the new town strip, the location is ideal.

Having decided on booking a last minute holiday we decided to stay at Silchoro Apartments as they were the cheapest option which looked decent.

We arrived at the hotel about 5pm and were greeted by a lovely receptionist who informed us that we had been upgraded to a 1 bedroom apartment, she explained all the facilities of the hotel and gave us a map of the local area and talked us through local places to visit. All receptionists were helpful and friendly during our stay. When we went up to our room it was quite difficult to turn the key and open the door, but we managed it eventually. The room was a great size with a good view of the pool, only negatives would be that the bath was abit dirty and grimey, but I believe this was through age rather than a bad job by the cleaners, it could do with a new shower curtain and bath mat as this was obviously very old, for the price we paid this wasn't a problem to us but I could see how others would complain.

After going out on the first night for some tea we arrived back about 10pm and as before we struggled to get into the room again, I tried to twist the key so hard that it actually snapped in the lock. At this point I was thinking 'oh no how much is this going to cost' but the same helpful receptionist from before managed to get the door open and at 9am the next morning the maintenance man was fixing the door. When we came back later on they had cut a new key and fitted a new lock, at no extra charge to us. We did find it easier to open from then on but it was still quite difficult so the door must be the problem.

The pool was great, however you did have to put towels down at 8am if you wanted the normal sunbeds as there wasn't that many of those, no one really wanted the curved ones and we spent a day on them at the pool and our backs were sore by the end of the day! Some people round the pool did think they had the right to certain sun beds "because they were on them yesterday"!

The shuttle bus to the Old Town was great and you could get it there and back, even if there is no one at the hotel to go to the Old Town the driver still goes to see if there is anyone waiting to be picked up.

Overall we had a great holiday in Portugal, we didn't really spend much time at the hotel as we went to the beach or on trips in the daytime and out to the strip or Old Town for night time, but this hotel was a great base for our holiday, when we go back to Portugal we'll stay at the Silchoro again.
