we stayed here in aughust 2012. me and my patner and 3 children. are first room was facing the road and very noisy. we went and told the staff and we where moved into a better room with pool view. within 10 minutes. staff are lovely. we are looking to go back next year. are room was clean and tidy, use the shuttle service which takes you to the old town its free of charge. the strip is a little bit of a walk but not that far once you fdind your way around. super market is just across the road and walk up the dirt track. its just along from the old water park. had a great time excellent hoilday..

Room Tip: make sure you pick pool view. its more quiet.

Having decided on booking a last minute holiday we decided to stay at Silchoro Apartments as they were the cheapest option which looked decent.

We arrived at the hotel about 5pm and were greeted by a lovely receptionist who informed us that we had been upgraded to a 1 bedroom apartment, she explained all the facilities of the hotel and gave us a map of the local area and talked us through local places to visit. All receptionists were helpful and friendly during our stay. When we went up to our room it was quite difficult to turn the key and open the door, but we managed it eventually. The room was a great size with a good view of the pool, only negatives would be that the bath was abit dirty and grimey, but I believe this was through age rather than a bad job by the cleaners, it could do with a new shower curtain and bath mat as this was obviously very old, for the price we paid this wasn't a problem to us but I could see how others would complain.

After going out on the first night for some tea we arrived back about 10pm and as before we struggled to get into the room again, I tried to twist the key so hard that it actually snapped in the lock. At this point I was thinking 'oh no how much is this going to cost' but the same helpful receptionist from before managed to get the door open and at 9am the next morning the maintenance man was fixing the door. When we came back later on they had cut a new key and fitted a new lock, at no extra charge to us. We did find it easier to open from then on but it was still quite difficult so the door must be the problem.

The pool was great, however you did have to put towels down at 8am if you wanted the normal sunbeds as there wasn't that many of those, no one really wanted the curved ones and we spent a day on them at the pool and our backs were sore by the end of the day! Some people round the pool did think they had the right to certain sun beds "because they were on them yesterday"!

The shuttle bus to the Old Town was great and you could get it there and back, even if there is no one at the hotel to go to the Old Town the driver still goes to see if there is anyone waiting to be picked up.

Overall we had a great holiday in Portugal, we didn't really spend much time at the hotel as we went to the beach or on trips in the daytime and out to the strip or Old Town for night time, but this hotel was a great base for our holiday, when we go back to Portugal we'll stay at the Silchoro again.

We stayed for 2 weeks in a studio apartment overlooking the pool, which was comfortable and clean, air conditioning would have been good maybe management should consider renting out fans. All the staff where very friendly and other guests too. Oura beach is only 20 minute walk or 4euro in taxi. Erin's Isle bar/restaurant is nearby, food and craic are great. There is a great buzz in Old Town at night, only about 4 euro in taxi. I loved the swimming pool at Silchoro, deep end is 9 foot but don't worry if you have children as there is a kiddies pool too.

Just back from the Silchorro, cant praise, the staff enough from the people behind reception always smiling and so helpful, to the guys in the cafe, the barman, and the lovely ladies that worked in the mini-market,always making sure there was lovely fresh rolls available for us.Had a lovely relaxing stay, food in the hotel was really lovely, drinks were really cheap 2.50euros for a pint of beer,(same price as on the strip!)3.50 for magners, bottles of heineken, and bud were 1euro each in the little mini-market bottles of sagres were 85cent ,i relieved them of quite a few bottles of each great value!!!!!.Although i was looking to stay closer to the strip, taxis were only 5euros to get there, taxis to the old town( which was just beautiful, views were just breathtaking)were just 6euros, taxis to the zoomarine were 15 euros and 24 euros in, great day out, taxis to the marina were 7 euros, where you could take cruises along the coastline, see dolphins and have barbeques on little private beaches from 24 euros onwards, fantastic day out.All in all a great little base to plan your unforgettable algarve experience. Please dont be put off by bad reviews on this hotel, they scared me when i read them, sunbeds werent that much of a problem it was so hot i enjoyed lying on the grass on a towel in the shade of one of the lovely palm trees,we hired fans when it got too hot 2.50euros a day,we got more than enough clean towels, the rooms were huge by the way, we were on the fifth floor with view of the pool which was a good size pool too.All in all such a lovely run hotel and a great quiet location with easy access to the strip and old town and beach.Would definately go back again!!!!!!!!

I (32) stayed at Silchoro the first week in September with my mother (55) and sister (29). Our apartment was on the 8th floor and was clean and spacious, it didn't lack anything. I was a bit worried about the fact that there was no air conditioning but once you opened a window and/or balcony door there was always a nice breeze so it never got too hot. The onsite mini-market and the restaurant were both good value. The strip was a 5-10minute walk away and the Old Town was less than €5.00 in a taxi.
Unfortunately there were not enough sunbeds at the pool for all guests. Despite notices asking guests not to reserve sunbeds with towels all sunbeds had towels on them before 9am every morning. This rule was not enforced and we found it quite frustrating, We had to actually buy lilos on which to lie on the grass beside the pool.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week in august, before arriving I had read the reviews and was expecting the worst. When arriving we where greeting extremely well and given the key to our room with no fuss, our room was simple self catering with everything you needed. We got clean towels everyday and fresh bedding every other day, the pool is a great size and the food in the hotel is cheap! The main strip is a 5 minute walk which we went to every day for either food or the nightlife. The nightlife was great with most bars and clubs open till 7am! The beach is a 15 minute walk or you could get the free bus with the hotel to the old town beach! Overall we had an amazing holiday and would defiantly come back to silchoro!! If you go to the beach by the strip make sure you do the water sports, amazing!!
