“Great hotel for the price!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

We booked this holiday as a cheap first holiday with our baby through Jet 2 Holidays. We had booked the Olhos D'Agua apartments but ended up in the Oceanus sister hotel next door (I think the Olhos D'Agua apartments are studios and we booked a 1 bed apartment). It was a great hotel and perfect for what we were after.

Like some of the reviews say parts were a bit worn and in need of a facelift but in general very good. It was very clean and the staff were very helpful.

We had a pool view room and it was very quiet on that side of the hotel but as some reviews say its nosier on the road side. We didn't eat in the onsite restaurant (A Cantina) but it did look very good. There are lots of places to eat around the hotel or down by the beach which is about a 10 minute walk away down the hill. We never had a bad meal - some of our favourites being Pizzeria Fratelli, Acuda and Jollies. Also Friends Bar was 2 minutes away and served fanastic cocktails and sangria :o)

The hotel is in a great location close to supermarkets, bars and restaurants and has free wifi in reception.

The only thing that let the hotel down was the swimming pools....out of the 5 swimming pools on offer they were all too cold for my little boy to go in - even the indoor pool which was supposed to be heated.
Never mind it didn't spoil our holiday and we would definately return for a future trip to Portugal!

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view as its quieter

Hi

Went on a mature girlie holiday here and was very impressed. We had booked a 3 bed self catering apartment and was upgraded to a 6 bed one, which was good as we got an en suite bathroom too. Kitchen was equipped enough for our needs and offered a Whirlpool oven and a Bosch 4 ring ceramic hob of which two were induction. There was a BBQ on the pool side balcony which was blessed by the early morning sun, so ate breakfast there each morning.
The two bedrooms, one twin and one double were nice and big and shared a balcony from the lounge all the way across the front. The sun was on this side later in the day so was lovely to sit with a glass of wine after a hard days sun bathing!

Mario and Jacqueline in the Main reception were lovely, friendly and very helpful.

Didn't visit the indoor pool as did not want to wear a cap, the outdoor ones were clean and tidy but the man could be a little more happy, we were on a mission and did get a smile out of him though!

The local restaurants were reasonably priced 5 euros for dishes at Azul, which was at the bottom of Cardiac Hill, as it was fondly called. Tamarillo, on the right near the beach front was very nice too.

Went on a boat trip and BBQ too and was a good value day out costing 42 euros return to the hotel.

Visited Albufeira Old Town one evening and got a taxi on the main road which cost just over 8 euros one way. Lovely, busy shopping area with lots of market stalls and restaurants.

All in all it was a lovely break and would recommend this resort to friends and family at this time of year as it was in the late 20's each day. A good tonic of winter sun!

Very good and well located place with helpful and friendly staff. One good point is that- unlike some other hotels that require a 'locally payable' charge for AC (which can be £50 pw or so), it is free here. It is perhaps a little frayed at the edges in terms of decor etc, some may find matresses a little basic, and AC appears to work better in some rooms compared to others, but represents very good value for money.

'Light' sleepers should note that about half the rooms face the main road through the town, and there can be some traffic noise throughout the night despite the double glazing- ie rooms facing the pools (plural!) are quieter (and there is also an indoor pool in basement, but when not heated (only heated in 'winter') it is cold, and it requires a bathing cap!)

Room Tip: Rooms facing pools are quieter as they do not face the road

The Oceanus is in a great location in the quiet resort of Olhos d'Agua, about five minutes (down a very steep hill) to the beach or 15 minutes stroll down the main road (quite a few little shops to look in on the way).

Reception friendly and informative, and I would like to single out Jacqueline for extra praise as she is so lovely and helpful.

Apartments are spacious and clean although the bedding could do with being updated as the bedspreads look a little tired. As other reviewers have said, the mattresses are so hard and the pillows not up to much - so not the best night's sleep!

Limited sun on the balconies overlooking the pool but rooms on that side are a lot quieter (no road noise apart from pick ups etc)

Pool area spotless, plenty of beds although quite uncomfortable, if you wanted a plastic/foam topper there was a 1 euro charge per day - not really very fair for residents. And no food or drink allowed in the area unless purchased at the pool bar!

Breakfast is taken in the pool bar situated directly across the road from main reception. Full English available, really tasty with decent bacon (quite rare when abroad!) including tea/ coffee and fruit juice. Main meal is served every day except Monday at the restaurant 'A Cantina' situated on the side of the sister hotel next to the Oceanus (Main meal served at pool bar on Monday's). Lovely food, very tasty, and plenty of it, but very limited choice - only three options per night, fish, meat or vegetarian.

Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby and surprisingly enough the prices seem to be better the closer you get to the beach. We found the Acqua Bar very good.

If you want to book a trip, there are lots of 'ticket shops' around, do take the time to compare prices though. We went on a trip that cost 5.90 euros, the same trip in another shop was 14 euros!

Highlight of our trip was Zoomarine, absolutely fantastic! Try to get there as early as possible as there is so much to do. Don't worry about taking a picnic as the food is really reasonably priced there.

Room Tip: Don't book half board if you like a varied menu

Just back from the most relaxing holiday of my life. I went with my daughter just to get away from all the stresses and strains we'd been through recently and we've come back totally relaxed. We were made very welcome and when we arrived we were upgraded to a 4 person studio which was totally amazing and so clean and airy. We went half board and our breakfast in the morning was really lovely, English Fry, oh my mouth is just watering thinking about it. The waiter was really lovely too and very pleasant and helpful. When it came to the evening meal, we had to go to a nearby restaurant which catered for us. The waitress wasn't very pleasant and we didn't have much of a choice of what to eat. One night we waited 2 hours before we finished our meal as because there were also people actually paying for their meals, they where getting waited on hand and foot, while we sat waiting, but needless to say there were plenty of other restaurants which served excellent food and were much more pleasant. Overall we had a very pleasant trip and would go back again.

just got back from a week at this hotel. We wanted a holiday on a budget and that is just what we got.The hotel is in a great location easily accesible to the beach at Olhos D'Agua and only 5kms from Albufeira. The hotel is spotlessly clean, all the staff are very friendly and helpfull and there is a good pool. thats the good news. The bad news:- the beds are small and worn out, the kitchen is not very well equiped or maintained (only one pan, knobs missing on the cooker etc), the wall around the shower was very badly cracked, the rooms on the road side of the hotel are very noisy, there is a one euro daily charge for sunbed cushions.
The hotel also has a roof terrace which is covered in astro turf and has a few old sunbeds, A great place for getting the sun all day long, i think it is a shame this space not utilised to better effect
