This is a very friendly place to stay, the staff especially Manuel, Pedro and Fatima really made you feel welcome and ready to have a laugh with you.
The apartments are spacious and well maintained, although the maids could be better ...they do bare minimum.
The food was good value and served very quickly.
I would say its not a great place if you are disabled as it is tucked away and it has some hills that might be a challenge but taxi's range from 4 to 7 euros to the strip and old town. You can't hail a taxi on the street but if you ask in a shop or bar they call one for you.
We would go back again mainly because of the staff who work so hard. but could do with aircon
Recommend the splash park, and a trip to the bull ring.

We have just returned from staying at the Choromar Apartments and could not have been happier to get home. Despite being advertised as being suitable for families, this could not have been further from the truth - THIS PLACE IS DEFINITELY NOT SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES! In the ten days that we stayed we witnessed four stag/hen parties who were commandeering the pool area, using extremely foul language loudly (regardless of the presence of young children), drinking heavily day and night and keeping other residents up throughout the night by slamming doors and engaging in behaviour that can only be termed as blatantly anti-social. The apartments were large but very basic, although this is what you would expect for what you are paying. They are located in a horrendous location, fifteen minutes walk from restaurants and bars through a fairly intimidating area where wild dogs roam and street lighting is limited, making the return walk back a memorable experience - for all of the wrong reasons! The clientele within the Choromar is dominated by people who are intent on drinking from morning until night to the extent where one resident actually ended up lying on the floor of the bar area. This makes the experience very difficult for those trying to enjoy a relaxing holiday and eventually we gave up and did not go near the pool area for the last five days of our holiday. Thankfully there is a shuttle bus which runs from the Choromar to the old town in Albufeira but please not that this is a mini-bus with only eight seats and only operates twice daily. However, it did provide us with an escape from the hell that was the Choromar. Albufeira appears to be becoming a venue for Stag and Hen parties and this is a real shame as we had visited Albufeira before and had a very different experience. In the end, we were literally counting the hours until we could leave, including those during the night as sleep was impossible. In our ten nights, we had ONE which was not completely disturbed, either by people talking loudly or singing, grown men chapping doors and running amok (yes seriously) and the stags and hens returning home and playing music at a ridiculous volume until approximately 5.30am. The only positives from the Choromar were the shuttle bus and the attempts from the evening entertainers to cater for families rather than pander to those intent on overrunning the hotel in a socially unacceptable manner. Food is basic, over-priced and of poor quality. Drinks are fairly reasonably priced but what you pay depends on who is serving, the time of day and the figure that they come up with! However, my advice would be that if you are considering a stay at Choromar - DO NOT GO! I simply cannot believe that this place has some really positive reviews and can only assume that these are composed by those who had a very different experience from us or those who believe that drinking perpetually and engaging in loutish behaviour where profanity is the order of the day is the way to enjoy a holiday - at the expense of those who are actually trying to relax. I truly wish we had stayed at home rather than have had to endure the hell that was the Choromar but if you fancy a week in conditions that can only be described as taking an 18-30 in downtown Beirut then you should be fine! The three words that we agreed summed up our experience perfectly were hellish, hideous and horrific!

Stayed at these apartments at the end of March/beginning of April 2013 for my friends hen party.
There were 19 of us in total!!

The apartments are really big, and CLEAN!! Always a bonus!!
The receptionist checked us all in without a fuss & explained to each of us where our rooms
were situated.
We were all in the main block.

The hotel was fairly quiet whilst we were there (only stayed for 2 nights).
Bar prices seemed fair enough. They had karaoke on both nights but we got taxi's to the strip so didn't really stay in the hotel much.

The weather wasnt great whilst we were there so we didnt even attempt to go near the pool, but it looked a decent enough pool from the view of our balcony.

Taxi ride to the strip didnt usually cost more than €6? So split between 4/5 of us was pittance.

The strip itself was brilliant at night! Lots to do!

We also had a ride into the old town on the second day & had a wander around & a bite to eat.

The hotel breakfast was brilliant, especially for the price!! Think we paid an extra €3 for it, and the morning we went home, the hotel packed us some baguettes because we left before breakfast was served!

Overall, if you're looking for a clean hotel on a budget, this is the place to go!
If you expect 5* accomodation/service, go elsewhere! You get what you pay for!
And for the price we paid, we really enjoyed our stay!

Yes, we all like luxuries, but for a budget hotel, as long as it's clean, a comfortable bed, and the food is good, you shalln't hear me complain!
Would defo go back if on a budget!

The hotel consists of 3 blocks. First one is the main one with reception, bar and other facilities. The other two blocks are apartments with their own pools. We stayed in block 2 and it was very good!

The rooms are well equipped with English (!) TV, all that you need for cooking and serving. Our apartment consisted of large bedroom, large newly tilled bathroom and living room with kitchen annex. The rooms were quiet and very rarely heard neighbours.
Pool area was cleaned every morning. Sitting by it through the day was lovely and breezy. You can also bring in your own alcohol!

The hotel is situated in Montechoro, which is around 10 mins walk from the nearest beach, 10 mins to the strip and couple of minutes by taxi to the old town of Albufeira (we also walked there and it only took us 35-40mins). Beaches are beautiful and worth a visit!

Had an amazing week, so hope you will have it too!

Room Tip: Take an apartment with a pool view, as it is nice and warm through the day and cool at night. Apartm...

GOOD POINTS: fantastic facilities, lovely pool, fun bar
BAD POINTS: not very friendly, inconsistent prices, odd cleaning rota, poor location

I'll start with the good stuff: firstly, the apartment that myself and my two friends were allocated was pretty amazing. It was in a block adjacent to the main block but this ended up being a very good thing for a number of reasons- firstly, we had a choice of two pools, the first being the one in the main block, and the second being in our own. We also felt that we had a greater degree of privacy, being away from most of the other guests.

The apartment itself was fantastic, with large clean rooms and a well-equipped kitchen. We had a large, long balcony and a view of the pool from the kitchen. Although there were only three of us, the apartment could technically sleep 5 (at a push) and I ended up having a double bed all to myself, a real luxury on a budget holiday. The bathroom was modern, clean and attractive.

The bar was another plus point; despite the odd decor, it was cosy and lively, lots of fun in the evenings, and served good food at relatively reasonable prices. Shame it's so dank and the tall chairs block most people's views of the entertainment as the vibe in general is nice.

However, unfortunately the bar and apartment were the only highlights of our stay at the Choromar. More than anything, we were disappointed by the lack of friendly feeling at the hotel, both from staff and from our fellow patrons. Some staff were lovely, but they were in the minority- on one occasion, we were laughed at by the receptionist for enquiring into late check-out. On another, when I politely asked if she were able to call for a taxi, another receptionist did so but without speaking a word, and after I said thanks, she only nodded and turned away. The lack of friendly staff was a real disappointment considering friendliness doesn't cost money and is usually something that more budget hotels pride themselves on.

As I said before, the lack of friendliness stretched to our patrons- when we went to the main pool for the first time, we were stared at to such a degree that I had to wonder whether I had something on my face. It wasn't just me who felt this, but also my fellow travellers. From then on we stuck to the pool in our own block, which was almost always empty and worked much better in the long run.

Another negative point was the inconsistency in prices (something that the staff didn't see as much of a problem). Despite signs up all over the reception that asking the reception to call for a taxi cost 50 cent, we were never charged. But we WERE charged for a map of Albufeira. On one occasion, we were told that a locker to store our luggage whilst we waited for the coach to the airport would require a 5 Euro deposit. When we returned to deposit our luggage, no deposit was required. Don't get me wrong- it's good not to be charged for these things, but again, consistency costs nothing and it would be useful for the staff to all agree upon when they want to charge for things and when they don't.

The cleaners were also inconsistent; they came once halfway through our one week stay and quickly swept the floors. They then didn't return and I had to go to the reception to ask for more toilet paper as we'd run out (at which point the receptionist insisted that they had visited...when they clearly hadn't). They sent round the cleaners that evening who topped us up and also gave us some clean towels, and then the cleaners returned the following day (the day before we were due to leave) to clean the bathroom for the first time. The cleaners themselves were polite and friendly but the timing of their visits could have been a little better.

Also, a brief point about noise: we had no problems with stag or hen parties as we were in the side block which seems to be mainly inhabited by locals who actually live in the apartments permanently. Hence our noise problems were mainly from children and due to the paper thin walls we could hear everything going on next door.

Finally, if you don't like walking, then don't go to the Choromar. It's right on the outskirts of Albufeira and it's a bit of a walk into town through some rather creepy streets. Unfortunately it seems as if the recession has hit Albufeira pretty badly and several of the bars and restaurants nearer to the Choromar are either empty or have closed down; it's only when you get into the main strip that it gets busier (though we did go just before high season so it might be better in July and August). Thankfully taxis in Portugal are really cheap and so we managed to get a taxi back every night.

In general my friends and I really enjoyed our trip to Albufeira, but we probably wouldn't return to the Choromar. We had realistic expectations considering the price and in fact the apartment itself exceeded our expectations entirely. But it can improve in a lot of areas, and a lot of the improvements I've suggested cost nothing, so there's no reason that this hotel can't go from 'average' to 'very good' or even 'excellent' with a few changes.

Went here last year with my girlfriend and all I can say is its a fantastic complex. We followed on this holiday as my family were already over here so we tagged along 3 days later. For the price we got it at was around £300 and the flights were £200 which was much lower than I was aiming to pay :).

As we arrived we was greeted by two very polite receptionists and first impressions always count. They told us we had been upgraded because of a mix up with the booking system or something so good news from the start. The room was brilliant, very spacious and also very clean, the bathroom was a perfect size and very clean.

The barman (who I've forgot his name haha) was brilliant, always greeted you as you walked past. The menu was fine aswell range from all kinds like chips, burgers, steaks, toasties ect.

They also did a mini-bus run to the old town/beach every so often and that was 3 euros each which I thought was very cheap. You could also get a taxi which the receptionists where happy to ring for you. Read a few reviews on here after we came back about loud stag do's and hen partys taking over the hotel pfft not at all there was about 2 stag partys while we was there and it didn't bother us at all I'd say there was more couples and families than stag/hen partys.

All in all it was a brilliant holiday and we was made up we ended up tagging along with the family. You will really enjoy this hotel staff will do anything for you and we will be certainly returning. Hope this review helps.

Just home from a lovely week in Albufeira with my boyfriend, and stayed in the Choromar apartments. Had a really enjoyable week in this hotel and would definitely go back. We booked a room in the main building with a pool view and was gorgeous. Room was very spacious and all we needed was available. Towels are however only changed once a week but it was no problem to rinse them out and dry then on the balcony ( dried within a matter of hours with the heat) A deposit is needed in order to use the safe and the tv, 25 i think but 15 of this is returned when leaving. The food in the bar is gorgeous and very reasonably priced, breakfast four euro couldnt go wrong. Choromar is situated in a residential area and is a bit away from everything but we walked to the strip everyday and every night. We found the area to be very safe and never witnessed any hassel on the strip. The old town is two and a half miles from the hotel but was a lovely walk (took about 40 mins and lots to see on the way) and the old town is definitely worth a visit. Also visit zoomarine and the water parks, very enjoyable days. Overall we really enjoyed our week here and was hassel free ( apart from the lizard we found in the kitchen the last night) but there very common over there. Would recommend it and staff were very friendly and always having a laugh with visitors. If looking for somewhere nice to eat we found 'la bamba' absolutely gorgeous and well priced, also we drank there at night :)
