“Great find”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

We visited for 3 days end of February, didn't know what to expect but reviews were positive. Great sized apartment, spotlessly clean hotel and a very good breakfast (we were staying b&b). Was raining when we arrived so 3 of us decided to head for the indoor pool - beware - by the time we had to buy swim caps and locker space we had parted with 14 euro just to have a swim! Still, the caps gave us a giggle. Great base at a great price, could easily see me back there for a week in summer? Beware the steps down to the square! Fine going down but coming up with a belly full of food and beer has you panting at the top.

Room Tip: Lots of rooms overlooking pool and as the hotel is high in the resort most have great sea views too...

Just returned from a stay here. Have been previously on a lads golf trip and wanted return with family. Stayed in large and v clean 2 bed apartment. Only minor criticism would be it was in a far block of the hotel and overlooking couple of disused buildings / sheds but there was a sea view. With it being quiet, I'm sure could have got a better room. But not taking this minor thing away from a lovely hotel.

Location is great, a short walk (with steep steps admittedly) down into albufeira square.

The hotel indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were great and there's a few outdoor pools.

We'd def come back and recommend it!

I have stayed at the Cerro Mar Gardens a couple of times over the last few years. There are two complexes on opposite sides of the road. I think the gardens are only available in winter to book direct. Near to the old town.. there is a stair case a few hundred yards from the apartments that takes you to the old town square and then the beach further on through the square. But it is not for the faint hearted coming back up. Believe that there is a hotel bus but didn't use it.

First time I had a one bed apartment and the second time a two bedded apartment, both were lovely, clean and well equipped. The first time I went half board as I was on my own, but the menu was not for my taste. The second time I was with friends and we ate out in the old town.

There is a small supermarket near the apartments but this is limited, however, there is an Aldi or Lidl, cant remember which, within 10 mins walk from the apartments.

Both times I went in March and had lovely weather. The pool at the Cerro Mar Gardens is amazing and so relaxing..

There is a hotel bar in the Cerro Mar Gardens.

Great place for a relaxing holiday, the Portuguese staff and people are so lovely.

Room Tip: If you go to the Cerra Mar Gardens ask for a sea facing corner room.

I cant really find any faults, we booked a studio apartment and on arrival we had a free upgrade to a one bed apartment. The place was pretty empty as it was January. When we went in it was massive, spotlessly clean and has a great view. The aircon also worked as heating which you need that time of the year. We had a small tv in living area with most channels in English which was great. The only thing that was missing was a microwave. The beds were very comfortable and I slept well every night. The maid came every day and was very friendly. Nothing else to say no negatives at all. Now time for location of the apartment its a killer if your not fit think twice!!! as in other reviews yes there are I think 96 wide steps that take you into the square that's fine but on the way back its not just the steps once at the top you have a very very steep hill to walk up and it killed me and im not that unfit. But if its not a problem its well worth staying here because of the views and the cleanliness of the apartments. It is a very steep walk to Aldi or Lidl which are near each other. Had a great holiday thank you.

Room Tip: we had room 504 excelent

We stayed the apartment during x'mas, glad we choose this one rather some apartment in the main street. Although very hilly but quiet. Our Room overlook the old town and have a seaview, Room 418 not sure which block, just cross the road from the main reception.

One bedroom apartment very spacious and the kichen fully equipped. We are not often choose self catering after this time we would like go to self catering for our next holiday, just ensure you choose the good facilities kitchen and big apartment. We have a nice steak bought from supermarket only cost 8 Euros and cook at the apartment just so yummy.

The whole resort very quiet, most of shops and restaurants closed for holiday and back to business in March, but you still able find some places to eat.

We always go to Costa Del Sol for our x'mas break, although the resort quiet but let us feel more relaxing compare Spain.

Room Tip: High Floor

We stayed at the Cerro Mar over Christmas & had a wonderful time. We had a 2 bedroomed apartment for the 3 of us & it was very spacious. It had 2 double bedrooms, one of them en-suite, & there was another large bathroom. The kitchen was fully equipped, even having a washing machine & dishwasher. There is a full size oven & hob, kettle, toaster etc. There was no microwave which we found strange, that is quite useful when on holiday.
The living area was very spacious with dining table & 6 chairs, 2 large settees, and a T.V. We only managed to get ITV on the TV, but it wasn't really a problem, we didn't really go to watch telly!
We were half board & the food in the restaurant was plentiful & varied. Breakfast consists of the usual continental cold meats, cakes & breads, and there is a good selection of traditional English breakfast foods, bacon, sausage, beans, eggs, tomatoes etc. The evening meal had about 3 choices of meat/fish with potatoes, pasta, rice and vegetables. Plenty of choice.
All of the staff at the hotel are friendly & helpful. Cleanliness is excellent. The maid came in every day, even Christmas day, and towels were changed daily.
The only negative point I have is that there is no porter on arrival. My husband is nearly 70, and I am partially sighted. We had to drag our cases up the steep hill to the apartment. We were given wrong directions as to how to get to our block & went wrong twice. Our daughter was with us, so it's not a matter of us being old & daft!. All of us heard the directions so we know they were wrong. Firstly we went to the wrong block, then when we got the right block we weren't told to go round the building to the lift & dragged our cases up a large flight of steps, only to find ourselves by the closed pool bar in the dark. My hubby fell up some steps & was lucky just to graze his knee. I think some help is needed for new arrivals.
Other than that incident, we enjoyed our stay & will definitely go back again.

Room Tip: The hotel is on a steep hill, but the apartments are good & spacious. We stayed at the Malpique...
