We stayed in the Cerro mar garden apartments in Albufeira first week of October. Our apartment was spacious, spotless and had everything we needed. We had apartment 307 which had a sea view which was lovely .
We knew about the steps up from town so were prepared for that. Taxi from town was only €3.25 by day and €3.90 at night.
i would definitely recommend these apartments for location, cleanliness, quiet at night and polite, helpful staff.

Room Tip: we asked for sea view upper floor and got just that, number 307

We travelled to Albufeira for the first time at the end of September, and we will definitely go again. We were a party of 4, 3 seniors & 1 thirty year old & had booked 2 x 1 bedroomed apartments. Our agent was Jet2. Everything was very well planned. The hotel said that the rooms would be available after 3pm, but when we got there at 1pm we got straight into the apartments. We were amazed at the size of the rooms. There was a nice sized bedroom with twin beds & LOTS of wardrobe & drawer space. The bathroom had a bath with shower above, a bidet & washbasin. Water was always piping hot. The living area was massive. There was a large sofa which could be used as 2 twin beds, but we didn't need that. There was a dining table with 4 chairs, & another easy chair. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything that you would have at home, kettle, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, full sized fridge/freezer & an oven. There are lots of cupboards, with plates, cups, glasses & lots of cutlery & cooking utensils, pans etc.
We were half board & the buffet breakfasts & evening meals were good. There was a cooked breakfast with bacon, sausage, egg, tomatoes, beans, or continental cold meats, croissants, cheeses, fruit, jam etc. The evening meal had a soup for starters, then 3 or 4 choices of meat/fish dishes with potatoes, chips or rice. Desserts were delicious, lots of creamy puds, fruit etc. All were well cooked & tasty.
The aprtments were so well equipped & spacious that We could happily have gone self-catering. There is a shop at the hotel entrance, but we found a Lidl supermarket only 10 minutes walk away which was very cheap. Get drinking water there, also cans of beer are cheap. We took our small trolley case to carry the shopping back. All the staff were friendly & helpful.
The weather was perfect, blue skies every day & very warm.
The sauna & jacuzzi were included in our package so we made good use of them. Also we liked the indoor heated swimming pool, you need a swimming cap to use this pool, but it was very quiet most of the time, which we liked.
The maids came into the apartment every day & the whole place was very clean & well cared for.
The hotel is located a short walk away from Old town, which we loved. Lots of shops & bars & very pretty. The beach looked lovely too.
There are a lot of steps down to the old town square, but if you find it too hard to walk back up use the local taxis, they are cheap. We walked back up, taking our time.
Try The Strip in the new town area, plenty shops & bars there too, but more modern. A taxi to there will cost about 4 euros.
When we go to Albufeira again we hope to book this hotel.
An absolute must is the patisserie cafe at the Brisa Sol hotel. About a 20 minute steady walk away but well worth the effort. It has cakes & pastries to die for. We each had a cream cake & a drink, & then we went another day to get some small cakes to eat at our hotel. The marzipans are wonderful.
The small tourist train is quite good value & a nice ride round Albufeira.
At he Strip try the Jing Du chinese resaurant. Good food at a reasonable price.

We stayed in the Cerro Mar Colina apartments in the first week of September.

Our apartment was lovely, with a balcony overlooking the pool, and the sea in the distance. The weather was perfect and the pool area was fantastic, with generally no problems finding a sun lounger (though they could do with fixing those that won't stay up - surely this can't cost too much?)

We particularly appreciated the peace and quiet, though I would point out that, despite Thomson's description of the resort as "adults only", there were a couple of screaming children about... Not enough to ruin our holiday though.

We found all of the staff at the hotel (reception, pool bar, and particularly the cleaners) to be exceptionally helpful and am very surprised that others have found this not to be the case.

We also didn't have any problems at all with the steps, and I would suggest that anyone who does any exercise wouldn't find them difficult (elderly and infirm excepted), though as mentioned elsewhere the local taxis are also cheap and reliable.

Regarding Albufeira itself, do not expect the "old town" to be quaint and historic. It's full of Sky Sports bars and Englishmen. We didn't visit the strip but I hate to think what that's like! Anyway, the Cerro Mar is nicely set back from all of this.

Room Tip: I'd recommend choosing as high a room as possible.

Just come back what was a long awaited holiday so it was vital that it was got to be good and it was an excellent holiday. We have no complaints other than we could have stayed a lot longer! we loved everything the staff were good, rooms cleaned every day, pool area and gardens were very clean and tidy, enough sunbeds and parasols. Yes there were these steps and I am not a spring chicken, but now a fitter one! We are booking again for next year, hopefuly the same room. Lovely views, we love Portugal.

We have just returned from 10 nights which was our 4th stay at the Cerro Mar Atlantico Apartments. We keep returning here as the rooms are spacious and modern, they are always clean and the maids come daily. The bedroom has 2 double beds pushed together to make a double, doesn't bother us but some people would not be happy with this. A safe costs 10 euros, so worth is to make sure your cash and valuables are safe.

We always stay self catering in a 1 bed apartment, this year we were on the 5th floor and the views are stunning. Our only concern was that the patio doors can be opened easily and it took our 2 yr old less than a minute to get the lock off and attempt to start opening the door so we had to be extra cautious and made sure he wasn't left alone in there as we didn't want him on the balcony unattended.

There are 100 steps down the square but the view and location are really worth it and if you've gone up and down a couple of times in a day then you definitely deserve an extra cocktail. A taxi back up on a night is only 4 euros.

We didn't try the restaurant or use any of the services across at Cerro Mar Garden as we prefer to spend our time on the beach and down in the square as there are so many bars and restaurants to choose from.

Check in and check out were smooth and all staff were friendly and polite. The kitchen has lots of equipment but be careful not to break anything as you will be charged,a smashed mug cost us 3 euros on check out.

Already looking to book again for next year.

Stayed at the Cerro Mar for a week and have just returned. Lovely hotel spread across several locations...lovely, well equipped, clean apartments - great views, good security, friendly staff and nice pools. Well equipped small gym too.

As for the location - up a steep hill (well, mostly steps - 100 of them) but then if you want to be in the vicinity of the old town, most things are going to be up a steep hill! Close enough to the old town square (maybe 5 minutes) but in a peaceful street away from bars - perfect in that respect.

Recommended!
