“Excellent accommodation”
Reviewed November 8, 2006

Comfortable accommodation, although some of the furniture is starting to look a bit tired.
Cleaning standards are excellent.
Beer, wine and water can be bought at reception.
Would recommend these apartments to others.
My wife has asked that someone feed the kittens.

Cerro Malpique 1 is an inferior accomodation to Cerro Malpique 2 and has no air conditioning. I originally booked Cerro Malpique 2 because of the good reviews through Direct Holidays but was changed to Cerro Malpique 1 at the last minute because of overbooking. I since understand that this is a pretty regular accurance with Direct Holidays so be warned. While the standard of 1 is well short of 2 its location is pretty good close to the old town which can be accessed via steps which could cause a difficulty to a person with walking difficulty. The old town has a large selection of restaurants and pubs to choose from.

Four of us travelled to the Cerro Malpique in May this year for 1 week. We where very impressed when we arrived the room was a 1 bedded apartment and it was massive, along with dishwasher, cooker, fridge, coffee maker, satelitte tv. The rooms where cleaned 5 times a week fresh bedding and towels. The staff where fantasic too really friendly and helpful and spoke fluent english. There was a little reception area that sold refreshments and crisps, ice cream etc:It also had internet and tv area and a bookcase with loads of books to read by the pool!! The pool area was great you could always get a lounger. Also had a sauna and steamroom. Overall all we thought it was fab and are looking into going back next year. I would recommed this hotel to anyone.

We spent a week in early April 2006 in Block 2 at these apartments, which is the newer building just a bit further up the road, and we couldn't have been more pleased with what we found. We were in 201 which was large, airy, had two balconies, a fully equipped kitchen/dining area/lounge room, good sized bedroom, large hallway and spacious bathroom. The furniture was in excellent condition - but then we were there at the beginning of the season. We could even watch BBC1 news on the television. The weather was too cool for us to use the two pools but they were kept clean and would be superb in the summer months. Round the corner is a good minimarket to get your basic provisions and fresh breakfast rolls, and a very obliging Pizza cafe for takeaways. The two problems we experienced were having to lock/unlock the gate at the foot of the driveway all the time and putting your keycard in the holder on the wall to put the lights on made a loud humming so we had to remove it before retiring for the night. This is a good location if you want a good night's sleep without disturbance from revellers and if don't plan to spend every day on the beach (which is about ten/fifteen minutes walk away.) There is also a good chance of finding a carparking space, and that can't be said of most of Albufeira. But as other reviewers have said, the biggest problem is the amount of steps down to the old town. You have to have strong legs and a stout heart, whether you take the "fewer but steeper" set of steps or the gentler but 100 newly-paved flight of steps. (Whilst we were there the old town square area was having new drainage put in and will be re-paved which meant, literally, negotiating a building site - even after dark. We suspect that this work may not be completed by the end of April 2006 as is claimed. However the location of Cerro Malpique apartments is above this area and we were not disturbed by the heavy machinery.) We would highly recommend these apartments to anyone who wants a good base for exploring the Algarve, or who wants a quiet place to do nothing very much, as long as you can cope with slopes and steps!

such a nice place, staff really helpful & frinedly.
a little out of the town but a little walk down the hill not too bad and only costs about 3 euros cab back.
the beech near by is great loads of water sports
and its far from all noisy night life so you get no hassle.
rooms are amazing like being at home.

Just arrived back from a weeks holiday in Cerro Malpique apartments.

Read all the reviews beforehand and was pleasantly surprised at what we found. Flat lovely and clean, nice bottle of wine waiting and was most welcome upon arrival at 3am in morning.

All the staff were friendly and helpful.

Rep ok but could have told us about the bus to and from hotel to Old Town, and landtrain to the Strip, we only found out on the last day whilst waiting for bus to the airport!

Old Town is the best with theStrip a bit like blackpool 'very british'.

Can recommend the Dolphin show at ZooMarine well worth the money.

We did not see ANY cockroaches or cats at any time, all in all we would definatley recommend staying there.

The Hill is not so bad, in fact 99% of Hotels are on a hill and some a lot further away from centre of Old Town.

If you want a bad hill try Laguna Park 2 in Playa Americas in Tenerife now that is a bad hill!

Why not read reports and make your own mind up, wer'e glad we did.
