Cerro Malpique Aparthotel
Ranked #50 of 154 Hotels in Albufeira
Reviewed July 6, 2012

Just got back from 10 nights stay in Cerro Malpique 1 aparthotel with my boyfriend and have had a fantastic holiday! I have to admit i was slightly worried after reading reviews about what the apartments were going to be like...but when we opened the door to our apartment we were greeted with a lovely spacious room with sunlight beaming in through the patio doors! Anyone who has said the apartments were drab and depressing cant have been staying at the same hotel! Yes the apartment had wooden furniture and so what if its a little dated...what can you expect for the price you pay?! The main thing was the apartment was clean and our towels were changed frequently throughout our stay. We had a lovely sea view from our apartment 501 which also overlooked the pool area.

The pool area was lovely, there was never a struggle to get a sunbed there was always a lovely relaxing atmostphere. The pool itself isnt overly big however its perfect for a dip to cool you down and has different depths which is nice. As for the 'cracked tiles in the pool' there was only one little area where there were a few tiles missing, big deal.

Overall I think most of the people leaving these reviews are expecting far too much for the price they have paid. We got this hotel at a great price for 10 nights and was thrilled with what we got. The hotel is in a great location, only a short distance away from the Old Town which is fantastic and has a lovely atmosphere...loads of places to eat and lots of shops also close to the beach. Yes you have to climb quite a lot of steps to get to and from the Old Town but if you take it at a slow pace it's absolutely fine...some people are just lazy!

I would definitely stay at Cerro Malpique again and plan to go back to Albufeira Old Town in the future because it really was a brilliant holiday!

just back from 11 nights in the Cerro Malpique aparthotel and can i just say i am completely revitalised! on first glance you would think that it would be just ok but the rooms were lovely and clean. when we asked for extra pillows etc they were got for us straight away. both gentlemen working at the desk couldn't be more helpful. and while they might come across as standoffish at first they couldn't do enough for us. the pool, while small was perfect and never crowded. in the morning you could have a relaxing breakfast and the go to the pool area to pick your sun lounger. this is the first place i have ever stayed at that i didn't have to get up at the dawn to put my towel on a lounger. it was a very laid back hotel and i can truly say that i got one of the most stress free holidays ever. the rooms were very spacious and clean. i have angina and was a bit worried about all the steps and hills but knew i could get a taxi back to the hotel if i wished. on the first night i was looking up the steps dreading my ascent but i took the bull by the horns and tried it and after a few rest stops i made it! i continued to use the steps throughout the holiday and while it was hard work i felt a certain sense of achievement. if you go right at the bottom of the steps and continue on for a few hundred yards you will come across a lovely little restaurant called the Bistro. we ate there 7 out of 11 nights. the food is lovely and very reasonably priced. the staff are lovely and NO loud music blaring. i would certainly go back to the Cerro Malpique again and would have no hesitation recommending it to anyone. With only 46 apartments it was an oasis of peace in a very musically loud desert.

This aparthotel, on first glance, seems to be in the middle of nowhere. The scenery certainly isn't anything to write home about. The bar, in the complex, can't even be really called a bar either. And to get water, you need to walk down a ridiculous amount of stairs, then back up a hill- not for the faint hearted, and definitely not for old and infirm.

Now, that's the negatives out the way. The positives are that the actual apartments are very spacious and clean, we were pleasantly surprised with our one bedroomed apartment. The pool area, whilst small, is a lovely little sun trap. If you get too hot, the pool definitely cools you down! Cerro Malpique is situated close to the Old Town, which is beautiful to explore. It is a short walk to the main square, where there are shops and restaurants (hence why I said first glance- you're not actually in the middle of nowhere!)

Overall, it's not somewhere I'd desperately want to stay again, but it was adequate, seeing as we were only self catering- it's basic, and provides just what you need.

Arrived on 14/06/12 for 10 days - had read the reviews and decided to upgrade to the Malpique 2 Aparthotel as there was a big difference in the satisfaction rating. I'm glad I did. The apartments are basic but clean, loads of space and have everything you need (the pillows aren't really that comfortable though but thats a small complaint).
The staff are absolutely lovely and very helpful although you rarely need them.
The apartments are close to LIDL which saves you a fortune!!
There are a number of small pools and the area is kept clean.
I can't really comment on the Malpique apartments as I only saw them from the outside but the outside are is not as nice or as modern as the Malpique 2.

Room Tip: In the Malpique 2 apartments, try to get on on the 2nd or 3rd floor as they have a view of both the...

Just got back from the Cerro Malpique I Apartments, we booked 9 nights in a studio apartment, end of May - beginning of June, what can i say, it was cheap but well worth it, yes as stated in previous reviews a bit dated but the studio apartments were roomy and very clean.
If you love a cuppa tea or coffee bring your own mugs as the cups are tiny, 2 sips of drink and its gone!!! Other than that the kitchenwas well equip with oven, toaster, microwave, coffee perculator, kettle etc
The pool area was quiet other than the daily visit from a seagull which seemed to like bathing in it!!!
There are 2 sets of steps to the old town, one takes you straight to the square and the other takes you a little way behind the old town, it only takes about 10 mins to get there, whatever way you go back its knackering unless you get a taxi!!!!
All in all a great base for a nice time in the Algarve, would i go back - definitely!!!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view or sea view and higher up asw you get better views
