Friday 17th August 2007 - we have just returned from a 2 week break at the Falesia. We wanted a chill out holiday, sunbathing reading and that's what we got. We tended to sunbathe in the garden area rather than round the pool area only because the pool area was busy and there was always activities going on. In the garden area it was more relaxing and peaceful. We had a superior room with a separate lounge area and it was excellent but we did agree with a previous review that it was a bit much to have to pay 40 euros to hire the fridge for the fortnight. Food was nice buffet style but it would have been lovely to say have had a couple of nights a la carte service to break the monotony of a buffet. Not complaining about the food but sometimes it was a bit 'samey'. Drinks in the hotel were expensive so a lot of people tended to buy wine and drink on their balconies at night etc. Entertainment was not what I thought to be great - this was our first Thomson Gold we are only early 50's and spoke to some seasoned Thomson Gold travellers who said entertainment in other hotels was better, the duo Anouk were not great and the thomson team did put on some shows, singing was okay but it all seemed to be a similar theme for each show - felt there could have been more dancing opportunities if they'd had a proper singing duo/band. All in all though we did enjoy the hotel it was very relaxing and the time did not fly by.

Have fun if you go.

Stayed a week first time without our kids. The hotel itself is spotless , the food is excellent and our room (we paid extra for a superior room) was large , airy and kept spotless by our excellent cleaner.

The drinks in the hotel were slightly expensive , £12 for a bottle of local wine which you could buy for £3 in the local supermarket.

However, a few things do let this hotel down. Firstly its location , in a very quiet spot with only one bar and a few small resturaunts within walking distance. If you wanted any sort of lively night a £6 taxi to Albuifura about 5 miles away. Also the beach was a 20 minute walk away , doesnt sound far , but quite a trek when its 85 degrees.

Secondly the entertainment, although the entertainment team cannot be faulted for their effort, welly throwing contests , quizzes and singalongs are not really my cup of tea. The resident singer was awfull.

All in all if you want a quite relaxing holiday ,with excellent food and accomadation, this hotel is definately for you, if you want something a bit more lively , nearer to the beach ,try a different hotel

This hotel was excellent, the staff are brilliant, they work very hard.
Food at the hotel was good, always plently of course. The entertainment that we saw was good, the resident band/duo were not our cup of tea, she can't sing please do not let this put you off though!

The room was lovely, spacious. We also did a trip to Zoomarine which was brilliant.

We loved spending our nights in brothers bar where the drinks were alot cheaper and it was great for people watching.
Overall had fab 'chilled' out holiday. Hello to Danny and Ange x x

This was our first real holiday without the children, now teenagers they are ‘too old’ to come with mum and dad so we decided to choose a Thomson Gold hotel for adults only.
Location:
The Falesia hotel is in a quiet town, set back from the beach. There are a few restaurants and shops on the busy main road outside but they are limited.
Access to the beach can be fairly difficult, especially if you have any difficulty in walking any small distance. The first method is via a free bus from the hotel, this bus leaves four times a day and drops you in a car park which is a 200m walk down hill to the beach.
The other route is through the Sheridan Pine Hills resort next door. There is quite a walk through to the lift that drops you down to the wooden walkway, then another 100m to the beach, it is quite a distance and buggies and wheelchairs struggle with the remaining steps.
Hotel:
The accommodation at the hotel is generally clean and modern. The room we had was a superior room, which offered approximately double the floor space to the normal room.
The superior room comprised of a double sofa and coffee table and a queen sized bed.
Free use of the safe, free water everyday, tea and coffee making facilities, fruit and wine upon arrival.

The bathroom consisted of a wonderful shower, bath, bidet, toilet and basin.
Towels were replaced daily.
The bathroom decor was looking tired and needed replacing, which for a 4 star hotel was disappointing.
Maids came daily, they did an ok job but we had dropped peanuts and put them in the ash tray, but the maids never once emptied them. We left this purposely to see if they would but we emptied it on the last day. Strange, but this didn't detract from a lovely hotel.
The balcony overlooked a well kept quiet garden and the sun shone on the balcony all day until early evening.
Mostly the hotel was fabulous, but the main disappointment was the €25 charge to use the fridge, which was ridiculous. I expected everything to be included in the cost of the superior room, after all it cost £12pp/pn extra for this room.
There was a minor problem with the Air con, it couldn't really cope with cooling the room size, it was desperately under powered and noisy, it was not possible to leave it on during the night, we found it cooler to open the windows.
Bed was comfortable and clean.

Restaurant:
The food at the hotel was fantastic, buffet style consisted of everything anyone could ever want to eat, well cooked and prepared with imagination, the restaurant was beautiful well worth the 4 star rating and service was exceptional with friendly waiting staff at all times.
Drinks were quite expensive, throughout the hotel, after a few days we decided it better to eat at the hotel and then go down to the ‘brothers bar’ just down the road where drinks were half the price, most people from the hotel were there too.

Entertainment:
The Thomson team at this hotel are fabulous, how they are not on the West end stage amazes me. I got a bit fed up with the resident duo ‘Jinx’ although they did a wonderful job supporting the Thomson staff that put their heart and soul into the shows they provided.
Pool:
The pool area was perfect and very relaxing, plenty of beds to go around, but still people dashed down in the morning to reserve their bed with towels !
The pool was usually quite empty and easy to swim around in.
The garden area was perfect for reading and relaxing, there are huge fish in the pond and its all really tranquil and relaxing.

We enjoyed the quiz and there were other gentle activities throughout the day to keep us busy if we wanted to.

Excursions:
Thomson provide a number of trip opportunities, however they were really expensive.
The half day trip to Algarve shopping centre and a winery was about €50 each. With the help of the reception staff we were able to get a bus outside the hotel and visit Algarve shopping for a total of €21.50 return (€10 bus fare and €11.50 taxi back.)

However there seem to be plenty of satisfied customers taking the excursions, and willing to pay the prices.

Indoor pool:
There is a great indoor pool, Jacuzzi and sauna down in the basement, I guess invaluable if the weather ever gets bad.
(Does it ever get bad??)

Although I felt there were a couple of things that could be improved upon, We thoroughly enjoyed staying at this hotel, it was a gorgeous relaxing place which provided everything we wanted for a ‘chill out’ holiday.
There is no doubt that we would recommend this hotel to others and hopefully visit again some time in the future.

Stayed for one week at the Falesia hotel which is a Thompson Gold hotel. No children under the age of 16.
This turned out to be a great holiday. We were allocated a room on the 4th floor with a pool view. We stayed on a half board basis and the food was exellent with a varied menu each night.
Dining room was very well planned with most of the tables seating two persons. Staff cannot do enough to please the guests.
Outdoor pool and indoor pools were first class and a free jaccusi.
Quiet relaxing gardens with water running through them. Plenty of sunbeds without the problem of others reserving them early.
The evening entertainment was also first class being done by the local Thompson team and invited acts. Don't want to ramble so if you are looking for a superb break - try this hotel.
This hotel may not suit younger couples as the average age was around 50+.
Only downside was no kettles in the rooms (unless superior)
and cost of phone calls from hotel (approx £1-80 per min). Buy a phone card from the hotel shop for 5 euros and get 160 minutes calls to the UK . Phone at end oof hotel road.
Will be going back next year.

A really beautifull hotel, cant fault any aspect of it. - lovely and quiet in gorgeous surroundings. We booked a standard room which was quite small - so we asked if they had anything larger and we were immediatley shown a huge room over looking the pool - at no extra cost!!!! The food was fab - could be a bit repetitve if you were there for 2 weeks though. The Thomson reps were a joy - great bunch and great fun. The maids kept the rooms and common areas immaculate. Two staff that stuck out are Celia on reception and Jose the head barman (get him so show you some of his card tricks!!!). We had a car so we didnt feel isolated and we found lots of great beaches nearby and further afield. Drinks not too bad price wise 2 x V & T's = 11 euros (cheap compared to uk hotels!!!) There are 2 supermarkets nearby and we tended to have a couple of drinks in the room rather then knock up a huge bar bill. They also let us keep the room for an extra 2 hours at no extra cost. If there was one moan it would be the charge for the hire of the fridge 25 euros a week.

Me and my elderly mother came to the Falesia hotel for a well deserved rest and we got it. From the moment we checked into the hotel right through till we left it was perfect.

We had a free room upgrade which we were not expecting and all staff were so polite and friendly. Food is too die for in the hotel. In fact we ate so much for breakfast we didnt need to buy lunch! The evening meals had so much varitey also. Diet starts now we´ve returned home!

Our Thomson rep was a lovely lady called Kate. She is a credit to Thomson and to the hotel, she was never away from the hotel and always had a smile on her face and was lovely to talk to. She knew all about the hotel and area. Most of these reps just talk to you to try and get you to buy excursions from them, well Kate didnt. Hope your there next we visit Kate!

This hotel really did beat our expectations and is great value for money. Only think is, is that to get places you will need a car or get public transport, taxis are so cheap though, we went to Albufeira for 6euros in a taxi.

Have a great holiday if you do book this hotel
